'I don't have to defend mMUNICH, Germany (Reuters) -- Jennifer Capriati is tired of hearing that the best player in the world is Venus Williams.

The 25-year-old, whose remarkable comeback has taken her all the way to number one, said she was irritated by remarks suggesting the powerful Williams would be in top spot had she played more tournaments.

"It's all speculation," Capriati said as she was warming up for the last tournament of her fairytale season, the WTA Championships starting on Tuesday.

"If Venus should be number one, why isn't she? I don't have to defend myself."

While Capriati won the Australian and French Open titles, Williams also took two Grand Slams -- Wimbledon and the U.S. Open -- and often looked in a class of her own.

But she has struggled with injuries and recently upset the WTA Tour officials by saying she could not play in Munich because of a sore wrist, after repeatedly assuring them that she would come.

Capriati said she had needed time for everything to sink in after she knocked Martina Hingis off the top of the rankings earlier this month.

"It's all settling in pretty good," she said. "Now it's the end of the year and I can start looking back and enjoy what has happened."
yself'

She really gets on my nerves,
If she didn't believe Venus was no. 1, why even comment about it at all. Venus does nothing but offer either positive comments, or she doesn't comment at all. Cocktail Capriati, needs a new lesson...humility.

Jennifer needs to approach her inerview sessions with more maturity. She constantly falls for the traps set by the journalists. It would not be so bad if she could express herself in a way that is slightly above elementary level.

But then what caqn you expect from the Capriati??

I think the term "Princess" is completely outdated for Jennifer Capriati. Now that she has made her comeback in tennis, she thinks her "you know what" doesn't stink. I have yet to read an interview from her that isn't filled with complete arrogance.

Capriati may be #1 now...since Venus isn't playing enough, Lindsay is just now starting to play enough, and Martina is out with an injury an suffering "burn-out", but I predict that these ladies are going to bump Capriati against the curb once the Australian Open comes along, so Capriati better let her role as #1 "settle in" soon, because it's not going to last long.

C',mon guys! Yousound like a bunch of Hingis fans obsessing about Venus. I'll care what Jenn says after she actually beats Venus. Til then, it just isn't important.
