How could you exclude Hardebeck and Collins? This is an interesting and talented recruiting class. I'm most interested to see where the following end up whether it is turning pro or attending college: Hardebeck (first choice is Stanford), Davis, Min, Van Nguyen, and Addison. I think Puig will turn pro representing Puerto Rico.

wait a minute...I'm kinda in a shock right now, because I don't remember watching her play :sobbing: I should check my blog on the National last year

How does she play? And is she tall? (I rate Size quite important, see how Barea and Terry are struggling at the NBA Finals? :sobbing:) I assume her playing the National at Lakewood kinda clinched it? (De Simone and Olmos played it their Junior year and I remember USC coaches watching the tournament)

---------

Overall Record: 63-17

USTA NATIONAL OPEN
May 14-16, 2011
Lakewood Tennis Center, Lakewood, CA Girls' 18 Singles
Complete Results
Round Wins Losses Score
32 Lindsey Kostas (47) 6-1;6-0
16 Nicolette Tran (59) 6-0;6-2
Q Jana McCord (27) 6-2;6-3
S Ashley Dai (11) 7-5;6-7;3-6
F Mayo Hibi (4) Wo (inj)*

She also defeated Hannah King 4,4 before, that's an impressive result.

And last year at Winter National

lost to Brooke Austin (1) 7-6(5);4-6;6-0

also not a bad result either (all matches from tennisrecruiting.net)

But how can this be 'reeling in'? She's ranked 16th, and when I think
1 (1) Jessie Pegula PA 3
2 (2) Krista Hardebeck CA 5
3 (3) Grace Min GA 8
4 (4) Kyle McPhillips OH 17
5 (5) Anna Mamalat PA 5
6 (6) Danielle Collins FL 10
7 (7) Catherine Harrison TN 14
8 (8) Whitney Kay GA 14
9 (9) Stephanie Nauta

THOSE are the REAL ones, and I thought USC needed solid singles #1 & 2 players...(like in Basketball..recruiting a sure-fire TOP player is considered good recruiting) And only Ramos graduates that year, so that may be it for USC.

Well who knows, some of these recent recruits could pull off a 'Steve Johnson', you know? (everyone knows that famous story, right? coach Smith didn't think he was that good at the start, and he HIMSELF improved..look where he's now )

and about Tennisace's question, I just watch and occasionally record matches  Sure USC produced some strong individual players, but dunno, injuries, illness, bad luck or something? And Stanford recruits GREAT classes, not USC :sobbing:

But first am extremely curious how Yates play... :)

Interesting perspective given some of the bashing by others on this board for coaches going international to find talent.

USC has one international in 2013 (Pulido) and seven US blue chippers. But that is not the creme de la creme.

And I am not arguing that. He does sign them very early... some pan out and some haven't.

But now imagine where the other 315 of the non 'creme de a creme' D1 schools are supposed to go find players to compete?

Well that's exactly it. Teams like UCI that are able to recruit the big California schools' leftovers would love for everyone to recruit all-American. That likely would make UCI a top 25 team, or close to it!

The only hope UCI has of EVER competing with UCLA, USC, Stanford, etc. is to recruit international players. With some good internationals mixed in with the good CA kids, UCI could easily be a top 25 team.

I won't contribute to the McPhillips conversation but I will say that Catherine had a bad shoulder injury in her loss to Kyle and served underhand the entire match. I'm not saying Catherine is better than Kyle but just that when both are healthy the difference between them isn't 0 and 0.

I would normally agree with you, but when you look at the context in which I said it then you'd see more of what I meant. mboyle was saying that he wouldn't want Duke's one remaining scholarship wasted on Catherine Harrison. Instead he "freaking want"s Kyle McPhillips. To which I responded that Kyle McPhillips isn't that good, meaning that having Harrison would be equally beneficial, if not moreso, than scoring McPhillips.

I should have probably worded it a little differently, you're right, but McPhillips isn't some goddess in her recruiting class to which all other players should be turned away if she shows interest in a school. That's what I meant by she's "not that good".

Chanelle Van Ngyuen commits to UCLA. No surprise there.

One of the LB State boosters at All American said they overheard Rance Brown say to someone that they had just got commits from their top 2 recruits.

So Van Ngyuen is # 1

Who is other big time: Krista Hardebeck or Kyle McPhillips?

3 blue chip freshman this year, potentially 2 next year... with Dolehide just a blue chip soph presently. That's 6 in 3 years... and these are top 10 blue chips... the really good ones! Impressive. And these are out of state blue chips so obviously no funding restrictions despite the massive UC tuition jumps.

That's Stanford level or better, Cal gets the internationals, USC is getting the # 11-25 blue chippers.

UCLA may be about to make a run for a 2nd title shortly.

Again, whatever they are doing is impressive.

Because unless that 'chat' happened after she had finished her participation in the tournament it is a MAJOR RECRUITING VIOLATION on the part of Florida.

You can't talk to recruits during tournaments until they are eliminated or win it. That rule is for any NCAA sport.

Maci Epstein to Virginia.

It's interesting to note that it appears UVA has used up its two scholarships for next year already. According to TR, Maya Jansen and now Maci Epstein have received offers. I think UVA is going to be really good this year (Hardenbergh, Fraser, Vierra, Li Xi, Tomljanovic, Fuccillo/Peretz/O'Koniewski) and compete for the ACC title against Duke but given that their #1 and #2 are graduating, I would have thought the coach would really be looking to recruit an "impact player" for this coming year (Maci is definitely a solid recruit). It surprises me that one of the strongest recruits in the country (Danielle Collins) lists UVA as a school of interest but now UVA can't offer her a scholarship (unless they take one away from a current player).

In short, given how good UVA is going to be this year (IMO a top 8 team) and that they are graduating their #1 and #2, I would think they could bring in someone better than the #50 girl in her class and wouldn't use up both scholarships before November.

Nice argument. Epstein is definitely a very nice recruit(lost to McPhillips at the National in 3, beat Harrison in 3 at the Team championship), and dunno, maybe the coach saw something in Jansen.

She once lost to(according to TR)

Brooke Austin (1) 7-5;7-6(8)

and lost in the Team championship to;

RR Samantha Asch (23) 2-6;6-2;7-5
RR Stephanie Vlad (20) 1-6;7-6(5);6-4
RR Jamie Loeb (6) 6-3;2-6;6-2

and defeated;

RR Olivia Sneed (13) 0-6;6-1;6-1

she also always loses to Dasha Ivanova in 3

If Danielle wants to go to UVA, he'll cut a girl off the team, even if that's not allowed. I heard at the Cleveland 10k that the coach will find reasons or list reasons to cut, but it's just to better the team's future, not because a player was poor on court or through academics.

Oh I totally agree that if Danielle wanted to go to UVA, the coach would cut #8. However, I don't think that sends a great message to the recruit (Danielle) in that situation and I think it's much easier for the coach to say "we have a scholarship for you" rather than telling a recruit that girls on his team are disposable. You know?

If this is the case that he has no scholarships available and is back loading new players on the idea of getting rid of other players at the end of the year in May, then this should be looked at by the NCAA.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt that if there are no scholarships available for 2012 for the new players, they might be coming in as walk-on's for the first year. This isn't unusual even for blue chips who want to play for a certain college and will pay their own way until a scholarship is available the following year. It would be interesting to know!

Bit surprised at this. Some think there's quite a bit more to come from Barnett, but even so one would have thought NU would want someone with a better CV (Am. E. resume).

To a casual observer, it seems that a significantly higher percentage of players are committing early. TRN currently lists about 120 commitments for 4-stars and above, and the early signing period hasn't started yet. There must be about 200 total 4-stars and above. Is it correct that traditionally a higher percentage of players signed late rather than early? If this observation is correct, what is this attributable to? Thanks.

In recruiting there is a hierarchy with the BCS big boys having their pick of players first. After that it's a domino effect with everyone below them falling into place. But with TRN and facebook announcing instantly where players are committing to, the domino effect is set in motion earlier than in past years.

Interesting, thanks.

I read that to say the schools are handing out the offers earlier...after they see the dominoes fall....rather than that the offers are coming out at the same pace but the players are more eager to get the process done earlier.

from TR;

'Krista Hardebeck CA Announce 11/9 Stanford, UCLA'

This is it guys.

Stanford;

This means the end of college competition. The beginning of the Dark Age. 'The Empire strikes BACK'. Stanford can aim for a 3 peat. Why? Ellen Tsay could very well play singles 6. next season. She at the National revenged her loss against McPhillips at EB. In 2.
Think about THAT  'Fear the Tree'!
Next season's issue will not be which team wins NCAA but who plays which position at STAN :haha:

UCLA

Restores some balance to the league! STAN, UF, UCLA, DUKE. :)
UCLA can now seriously aim for the championship.
