Just announced on Andy's twitter! I'm so excited! That's going to be the most fun team to watch in quite some time.

Hopefully they'll play a slam or 2 before the Olympics to get some play in together :bounce:

OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!

YEAHHHH!

This is the most exciting off season news ever.
Other mixed doubles teams...good luck returning those serves!
I am seriously salivating over the 2010 season. It looks to be awesome. All the vets are in relatively good form, the newbies are rearing to go after a somewhat disillusioned and up and down 09, and of course the return of Justine 'the backhand' henin and kimmie Klijsters. What more could one ask for really. Especially with Tigergate effectively putting the kibosh on any Golf watching on my part, it's nice to see that Tennis is gonna be exciting. Oh and there's that other thing called THE WORLD CUP. I am beside myself right now.

Sorry for the caps.

I feel sorry for the net person on the opposing team.
Andy serves 140mph serve, returner pops it up, Serena buries the smash at the feet of the net man :sobbing:

They will be so hard to break.

Love it!!! Love this pairing, let's see them hold true to their word.

Serena's got a great serve, which is key for the female partner.
Andy's ridiculous serve too. Oh my lord...let's just hope they volley with competence.

If you think you only need two big serves to win in doubles, you're wrong. Karlovic/Isner was a disaster and both guys volley 10 times better than Roddick.

A pairing of Bryan/Williams x2 would benefit the United States a lot more.

In 2012, the Bryans will be 34, Venus 32, Serena almost 31, Roddick almost 30. Most likely, none of them will be winning any medals in London. Querrey, Oudin, and Harrison have better chances.

Also, Venus and Serena will have to play Fed Cup in 2011 to qualify for the Olympics, and after the "I'll play if I'm not in a wheelchair.....just kidding, I'm not playing" stunt Serena pulled, they have some making up to do with Mary Joe Fernandez.

Has the ITF announced what the format of the mixed tournament will be? I thought I read something about it being a 16 team draw. If that's true, I wonder if nations will be limited to one team? Then again, many of the potential top teams come from competitive nations (USA, Spain, etc.), so I wonder what the decision will be.

Anyway, I think Serena and Andy would be a very tough team to beat, and I like the idea of mixed doubles at the Olympics (gives some nations a better chance than they would have in any other discipline)!

They have no making up to do. Mary Joe knows the situation and will always make them first priority on the team if they make themselves available. You seem to be the only one who hasn't gotten over it

Take a look at the age of the top doubles players in the rankings...

Just looking at the Top 8 in the ATP doubles rankings, Nestor is 37, Zimonjic 33, Bhupathi 35, Knowles 38 and Paes 36! :haha:

And let's not talk about Navratilova winning double slams in the mid 40's!

I'd hope its only one country per team, if its only a 16-team draw. Otherwise its an even bigger joke: K guys, just play for a Gold Medal...lets only have like 4 nations represented here.

There you have it officially. And Venus tries to get one of the Bryans into play.

Anyone knowing in a field of 16 how much teams each nation can bring in?

I think not more than two I would say. So no mixed fortune for some doubles specialists such as Liezel Huber.

In other countries, such as Poland or whatever, some interesting prospects with all those male doubles specialists around. Will be interesting to see the seeds made.

I believe it will be like last time including the male singles players for doubles and taking their rankings "*0,5" compared to the doubles rankings with "*1".
