I found myself involuntarily do it loudly, but I am completely silent when I hit groundstrokes.

Not gonna lie. I grunt really loud. Think Seles/Venus/Masha/Safina.
Sick. I know.

I can't grunt during volleys. I try not to grunt at all... When I do it's completely involuntary. When I'm trying to really go after a serve I sometimes grunt, and I hate it! Since I'm not thinking about the grunt, and it just comes out, it always sounds really awkward and weird.

I do sometimes. Depends on the volley though.

This.

But I am completely.. completely unable to grunt on a serve or a volley. Only strokes. :tears: No matter how hard I scream, nothing comes out on those.

I try to grunt on ground strokes, I really do. But I can't and it seems awkward and unnatural. I only make a sound when I'm hitting the ball late. But on volley, short volleys, long volleys, or swinging volley is a big "AUUGHHH! URRGH!" I can't even stop it.

Not on volleys
But I grunt weirdly on groundstrokes. It's not even a grunt actually. I keep the air in my mouth and i let it out just as i'm hitting the ball, the sound is something like "pshhhhh"

i know right, i don't even get how people get themselves to grunt. I can't do it!

On volleys, I only grunt if the ball comes at me fast or if need to stretch. On swing volleys I always grunt.

But in general I've become shy when grunting :rolls:

I never grunt. Me and my friend decided to try to grunt before whilst playing but we kept missing the ball because we were concentrating so much on the grunt.

sorry but you must have down syndrome if u grunt when you volley :weirdo: or if u grunt at all really, unless you're on a full stretch, you should learn to control your breathing so as to not seem so retarded

Have some basic respect, geez.

And yes I meant full stretch, the stretch where you will fall on the ground with.

I hardly ever volley, but I think I don't. I actually just grunt when I'm tired mostly.

I grunt on every shot...usually an Ivanovic noise...though I had a Seles phase when I was playing for school with a groin pull the whole three month season. I still got to districts serving at 60% and hobbling around...

I sometimes let out an orgasmic, loud noise on drop shots or drop volleys to confuse the opponent. :)

Noises shouldn't skew a game, but a sound equivalent to a jet taking off at the other end of the court masks the thwack of the ball hitting the racket, making it harder to judge the shot. Even if bellowing verges on gamesmanship, it's not easy to get heavy with the heavy-hitters who have fallen into bad and noisy habits. "What else would you ban?" asks my long-suffering tennis coach, Austine Okajie. "Should Sharapova not be allowed to turn her back on her opponent before receiving shots? If you want to change things, start with the young ones."
