It'll be my first time there. I'll be in Auckland for the whole week, mostly visiting but of course attending all my favs' matches.
Who else is going? It could be cool to meet!

How was it last year? How is the atmosphere? Are you close to the players there? Did you like the city?

On the whole quite nice yea, and its pretty well run last year. One of the highlights had to be Elena Dementieva playing with a racing car against a kid... only to crash the car about a dozen times

Yes very close to the players, theres this big marquee thing next to the main court where alot of the players do signings and stuff like that. The brownies are to die for!!!

Unfortunetly I won't be coming in 2010, but definately in 2011

Last year I stayed at Quest Apartments, like a 15 minute walk away or so?

I'm staying in Chalet Chevron, a few minutes away from the stadium. It looks like a nice place.
I always prefer smaller tournaments and their friendly atmosphere (like Eastbourne). Auckland seems to be like that from what you and Mana say, I cant wait.

Auckland is indeed a friendly place, at least most people are friendly, there are always one or two bad apples but don't let them spoil the party...

I always go to qualies.
I went last year for qualies and quarterfinals day.
This year I will go for qualies (the best things in life are free!) and I think also maybe the finals. My family is going to Paihia for the week but we are planning to come back for the finals. I've never been to the final before. I normally go to watch the Heineken qualifying on the North Shore (Albany) on that Saturday instead, but this time I'll just watch the Heineken qualifying on Sunday.

I love qualies because it's so relaxed, you get to move around and sit where you want, you can pick the spot directly behind the court and get a tv angle. You can get shade whenever you want. Unfortunately I won't get that in the finals.

Your videos are always awesome Stefi. If you get some videos I'll make sure to watch them as always.

I am unfamiliar with places like Chalet Chevron since I live in Auckland but the name sounds nice. If it's so close to the stadium then in a way it's even more convenient for you than me... There is not much parking really, you might find a parking spot for qualies, but not for the main draw, so we always have to either organise a ride or use Auckland's terrible and slow public transport. You will be very close to the Auckland domain then (ASB stadium is situated on the Stanley St edge of the domain, you can see Auckland Uni from it), so you can easily go to the park, look at the winter gardens, maybe the museum etc. You will also be quite close to the central city (Queen st shops and Cinema etc, the wharf which had restaurants and bars added for the America's Cup) and also to the Parnell shops which are on a slope downhill. Mission bay is nice too if you want to go a bit further, you would need transport for that, they have scenery, kelly tarlton's, cinema etc, ice cream of course. City central has all this and more of course but is less scenic. Newmarket, on the opposite side of the domain to the tennis centre, can be nice too, shops, a supermarket, cinemas etc, but a lot depends on how much reconstruction they are doing at any time. If you like flowers I also recommend the Parnell Rose gardens opposite the Gladstone tennis club. My cousin got married there a few years ago, it was very pretty. Oh, and be careful crossing the road by the entrance to the stadium, it is by an intersection near the motorway exit.

Lol I just looked up Chalet Chevron and of course they tell you all these things, I didn't need to tell you . The landscape in this part of Auckland is a wee bit hilly, from the look of the location you will be going downhill down Parnell road/Parnell rise on your way there, and then uphill all the way back. But it's not so far as long as you are reasonably fit and healthy. I used to walk it all the time. Central city is a little further away, you will have to go downhill, then uphill, through the university (past the Maidment theatre- I used to go there all the time to see plays) and downhill past Albert Park.

Hope you enjoy your time here!
