NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (Reuters) -- Wimbledon and U.S. Open champion Venus Williams is already rethinking her tennis schedule next year -- so she can fit in school.

The 21-year-old, also a double Olympic gold medallist, is defending her Pilot Pen title in New Haven and but says she has already started looking to life away from the courts.

"Basically, I'm just trying to set goals for myself for after tennis," Williams told the New Haven Register.

"I eventually want to be a designer," Williams said. "Have my own little line. I don't want a big line. I don't want to work that hard."

Williams is studying for a degree at fashion school in Florida and eagerly awaits the day she graduates.

"That day is going to be the most exciting day of my life," she said.

"It's kind of a dream. Sure, tennis is what I've worked toward. But if I could get my diploma, it would be a dream come true."

Williams said she is thinking about adapting her tour schedule to better suit her opportunities for school.

"Next year I am looking to play a lot more in the beginning of the year.

"So that way if I did want to go to school in the fall, then I would have played enough tournaments. I might try something different."

But despite looking beyond tennis, she has no plans to retire just yet.

"I'm not thinking about quitting," she said.

"I like it here. I like my job. To me it's just a wonderful thing to be a tennis player. I've worked hard and I feel like I deserve to be here. But when it's time to go and the fat lady sings, I'll be out."
