Congrats on your first Title! :) You really deserve it. It's great to finish the season like this. Hopefully she'll have a similar start in 2010! Great revenge for Fed Cup  Keep going.

Really one of the worst tennis I have ever seen in my life, that was just horrible!
With such a performance she wouldnt deserve it to be in Bali anyway, nothing worked, terrible match!
She even had the chance to come back, but not even this chance she could take at *5-5 in 2nd set!

Really disappointed, Basc. really didnt play special, should be always beatable for Sabine

Lisicki's number of errors is just beyond ridiculous. She can't even excuse this as an off day, this becomes more and more her standard level of play. She should concern herself less with becoming No. 1, and more with practice of the most basic shots.

Sabine shot herself in the back in game 2 set 1. After losing her service in game 1, Sabine lead 40-30 in the 2nd game, but missed an easy smash standing by the net with almost the entire court wide opened. Timea came back and won the game and breezed the rest of set 1.

In the 2nd set game 2 the same thing happened; Lisicki missed a smash in front of the net for an easy point giving Bacsinsky a 30-15 lead, allowing Timea to tie the set at 1-1.

Lisicki was broken in game 11 and in game 12 set 2 Sabine missed another easy winner by the net sending the ball wide.

Overall, Sabine played poorly, while Timea played like a seasoned veteran. Congrats to Bacsinszky.

Very happy that Timea could rebound from such a horrible injury-plagued start to the season and win her first SEWTA title beating two Top30 players consecutively. The way she finished the match was great, with a big serve and a forehand putaway. Finally gains a title for Switzerland this season and puts herself in good position to move up even higher by the end of the season and early next year.

As for Lisicki, with her game style you always run the risk of having a day like this where nothing seems to be working. She really needs to have a look at her groundstroke foundation on the off-season, she uses too much arm when she gets nervous and the ball flies on her.

Onwards and upwards Timi! :rocker:

She had 3 injuries/illness since the beginning of August. It's tough getting in form when you always had an injury. First shoulder problems, then twisted ankle and then food poisoning.

She wasn't in best form in Luxembourg but was still able to reach the final. I think it's not that bad.

But I'm afraid that she maybe gets another injury in Bali in this horrible year.

25 in the rankings is okay for this year with lots of injuries and if she stays injuryfree, it should be no big problem for her entering the top 20 next year.

I'm so happy for Timea! She's built her season up well, and she finishes it with a nice title win. I hope she can do even better in the future--I never get tired of watching her serve or hit her backhand.

For Lisicki, well. She won Charleston and made her first slam quarterfinal this year. She should be proud of the good runs she's put together. It's probably a good sign she takes this loss to heart so much, it shows how much she wants to win. Unless she takes the Ivanovic route, that can only help her in the future.

Brainless ball-bashing from Sabine :(

I totally agree. When I saw sabine crying in the closing ceremonies I felt even worse. You cannot let Bacsinszky dictate play with her backhand. Meanwhile Sabine had poor control in going for her winners. First Yanina and now Sabine, boy I guess I was a glutton for punishment this weekend. :) :wavey:

Apparently you know more about Timea than I do. Let me ask you this;is the real Timea the player I just saw beat Lisick and Yanina or did she play over her head. She was ranked 70th as of today, but what does your crystal ball see for her in the rankings for 2010? Can she really have a better 2010 than Yanina and Sabine? Congrats to your player, but I am not very happy right now. :)

Timea is a momentum player who can play rather well when she has a good period, but for large parts of the year she is virtually non existent. I don't think she can play much better than today, actually. I don't think she has the potential to go higher than top 30. Her forehand is just too weak. She can beat the error machine by throwing up high top spin balls, but not the top 25. Sabine, on the other hand, had an extremely bad day today. She has a big potential and I'd say a certain top 10 in a couple of years, if not for 2010. Being the cutest and nicest girl in tennis she has a big commercial potential, too, so her future is certainly bright!

I am as big a fan as you are, but Mike don't be afraid to spill out the truth from Germany. She played lousy in this match, as much as I love her. She had plenty of injuries starting with the exhibition match whereit all started with Groenfield, but she has also had plenty of rest. She has a lot of work to do in the off season. :)

Sabine is a very nervous person and also quite prone to tears. She must learn how to deal with her emotions. Besides, she's a bit unlucky, too. She's had a lot of bad luck with injuries this year, which must have been very frustrating. Still, I believe that she will make a significant breakthrough in 2010. ;)

She just had a very bad day today and the whole tournament she was far away from her best, but if you are injured that often you don't really have the chance to get in a really good shape, so it was okay for her to reach the final. And if she could be injury-free a longer period I'm sure we won't see matches like today from her.

I have always seen a bright future for Lisicki, but I was not happy they way she played the last 2 matches at Luxembourg. I felt going into today, if Sabine was going to beat Timea, she had to keep hitting the ball to Timea's forehand. Timea does a nice job of setting up her offense with her 2 hand backhand and mixes in drop shots nicely. Her drop shots did not decide the outcome of the match, like it did against Wickmayer, but in this tournamnentt Bacsinszky's game looked well rounded. Her serve accounted for 2 points in the final game today.

P.S- Luxembourg fans were very classy throughout this tournamnent and they showed up for the matches daily.

I got to say that was a fun match and I think the posters here are being way to hard on Lisicki. Truth is, in talent levels there isn't a lot of difference between Lisicki and Bacsinszky. Or Wickmayer for that matter. Timea is very much on par with both Yanina and Sabine. All three are pretty much the same age and all three hit the ball with good pace, move pretty well, have good serves and mix in some nice touch once in a while. All three have fine futures. Only difference is Yanina and Sabine both had their breakthoughs a few months ago while Timea until now hasn't had hers. But beating both Wickmayer and Lisicki here shows just what she is capable of.

I thought both girls actually played a fine match today. Sabine showed some lovely touch at times and displayed her usual powerful groundies and good serve. But Timea was able to match Sabine for groundstroke pace, do it with better consistency and make some crafty choices pacementwise. She hit behind Sabine frequently to great effect. She also outserved Sabine. It really was a tournament winning display.

After that ridiculous dancing troop thing it was also one of the most touching (and longest) tournament ceremonies I've seen this year. Both Sabine and especially Timea come off as really nice girls and there was very clearly a lot of warmth between the two after the match. One could also see how much it meant to both of them. I have got to say I LOVE Timea's ultra goofy smile. :hearts: It's just very endearing.

So.....I enjoyed that. Thrilled Timea won to be honest, she's a great girl, and I do like her a lot. And nothing against Sabine who I also think well of but, yeah, more than anything I am thrilled to bits that this win by Timea means Magda Rybarikova is now almost sure to make it to Bali. :bounce:

Yeah, Sabine had her breakthrough earlier this year. In contrast Timea's progress was slowed by injury and after almost beating Safina at last year's US Open in the 3rd round Timea wouldn't win another match for 6+ months. But I will stand by my comment that Timea is in the same ballbark abilitywise with Sabine and Yanina. Let's see where all three are ranked in a years time, okay? ;)

On few occasions in the match, Sabine hit a few shots to Timea's right side, but because Timea had an extra second to react,Timea decided to pull up and go with her 2 hand backhand instead of the forehand. I thought Sabine was a car crash out ther today beginning with her ist service match of the game where she was broken.

Figures.

Bad, bad loss for Lisicki. From a comprehensive win over future multiple GS winner GOATniacki to a loss against Spelling Nightmare. :tape:

I mean, I like Timea, since she's so unconventionally cute and everything, but she has no business winning WTA titles - at any level. Her FH is somewhere between Kateryna Bondarenko's and Pironkova's in terms of suckitude. When I first saw her play in late 2006 I described her as a pocket Misa (sic), and the last time I watched her (at the comical match vs Danka at the USO) she didn't seem to have improved all that much.

Ironically enough she ended the match with a forehand winner, set up by another big serve.

I wouldn't really say her forehand is at that level, because on clay especially it pushes her opponents behind the baseline and when they make the mistake of hitting to her backhand she will make them pay. I think, coupled with the strength of her backhand and serve, her forehand will only really be exposed on fast surfaces which are a rare find nowadays. Certainly not at the suck level of K.Bondarenko and Pironkova, who pray for the ball not to go to that side.

I never saw Timea hit her FH with any depth, on any surface. Cornet's FH once had that effect you're describing as it looped up and then dipped right at the baseline.

Her forehand is really 'whippy' though. Her follow-through is messy on average, because her footwork is over-compensating just to get in adequate position.

I was impressed by her serve when i first saw her in '06 against Sharapova. It wasn't the conventional 'let's hit a flat serve and live precariously through DF's', it was heavy and purposeful. I agree with you that her serve gives her a pretty good 1-2 oppurtunity.

She's very top-spin orienated though. It's a problem against bombastic hitters. Lisicki doesn't yet have coomplete aggressive tendencies to expose this me thinks. She often slips in and out of passivity, especially on the backhand.

Noone's forehand comes close to the cringe factor like K Bondarenko's. She has no body-weight transference AT all. Probably the only top 30 player i've seen who actually leans away from her forehand. Even Dushevina tries to hit through her forehand, but her heinous technique just won't allow it.

Apart from her first match, Sabine has played shit house all week. She cost me nicely in her second match, so I feel avenged.
