Lindsay Davenport

- did anyone else win their first 3 GS singles finals? (argh just thought of Capriati, anyone else though?)

- won 3 straight YEC's with 3 different partners.

- a title of some kind every year between 1993 and 2008 (and a singles final in each of those years).

2. returned to No.1 afterwards on September 8 for 58th overall week at No.1 (first 57 came between July 8, 2002 and August 10, 2003; five-year, one-month gap is longest gap between No.1 stints for any player ever, male or female).

Monica won her first 6 GS singles finals. However, Lindsay won her first three GS titles, without the loss of a set, and each one at a different venue. Don't know who else has accomplished that.

Monica and Martina N are the only players to have won 3 straight YEC's in singles. Unsure about doubles.

I could be wrong so please correct me, but didn't Martina N win a singles title every year between 1978 and 1993 or something like that?

This reminds me. In San Diego 2001, Monica handed the world's Top 2 the worst defeats defeating Capriati 6-3, 6-3 and Hingis 6-3, 6-4. No wonder she was Serena's idol. ;)

I think getting slaughtered in a grand slams final is way worse than being double bageled in any match. A slaughtering in a slam final can really hurt your ego and confidence, whereas a double bagel in most events, won't bother you too much.

Thank you. Absolutely true, Sharapova reached Miami final just after being bageled by Davenport and she beat Davenport everytime since that loss, on the other hand, after OZ, things were really difficult for Pova especially against Serena.

You never hear me referring to "The semifinal that must not be named" or "The 2nd round match that must not be named."

No. There is "The Final That Must Not Be Named." It is a major final and it will forever be the darkest day for me as a fan of the Czarina of Bangs. And she lost to me second favorite player.

So yes. I'd agree that being crushed in the finals of a major is just the worst.
