How in the world the US Open champ could lose to this mug????

Sabine should have won more easily, since she won the last 6 games of the match I think...

Meh, whatever. Didn't really expect Patty to back up her win because she rarely does. Congratulations Sabine :D

Not a high quality match.
Patty looked uninterested out there. Maybe too tired from yesterday

Anyways, Go Go Lisicki! :bounce:

Patty was able to hold serve 2 times in the whole match :tape:
Nice play from Sabine after 1-2* to 6-2, the rest was for sure not good, especially weak at serve!
But great that she could come back in 1st set also from 3-4* to 6-4!
Match was actually over for Patty as she wasnt able to convert a 40-0 at *2-1, after that Sabine played stronger and Patty was in her :silly: mood again!

Congrats! :)

Solid win for Sabine, didn't play nearly her best, but she is still able to win those matches. :)

She has to play better in the semis. ;)

How in the world the US Open champ could lose to this mug????

Because Kim no longer cares for International tournaments (even Premiers are doubtful). She will focus only on the slams next year. Like Serena, she is not motivated anymore for non-slam events.

Add to this mentality change the fact she had to pay a fine if she won this tournament and it isn't too hard to figure out why she lost to Schnyder...

I thought it was a lot of fun to watch. In fact in the ist 6 games of the ist set, Sabine never scored the ist point, but still managed to stay tied with Patti at 3-3 after 6 games.

Schynder was trailing 40-15 with Sabine serving in game 7. Schnyder came back in the game to take a 4-3 lead. Schnyder trailed 15-40 in game 8, but tied the game at 40, only to have Sabine come back and win game 8 to even the match at 4-4. Sabine would carry the momentum in game 8 all the way through the rest of the set. With Sabine leading 5-4, Schnyder was broken in game 10 at Love.

Schnyder never held serve in the 8 games in set 2. Game 2 of the 2nd set seesawed back and forth with Sabine blowing a 40-15 lead, until Sabine hit a tremendous passing shot down the right sideline to end game 2 and knot the 2nd set at 1-1. However, Lisicki in game 3 gave it right back by Double Faulting in game 3, as Patti broke Sabine at Love.

Game 4 set 2 became the turning point in the set. Patti was leading 40-0 in the game, but Lisicki came back to break Patti for a 3-2 lead. Lisicki carried momentum into games 7 and 8 by holding in game 7 and breaking Patti at Love in game 8.

I think their will be a changing gof the guard in the top 10 next year. I can see the Williams Sisters still being there with Safina,Dimentieva and Kuznetsova, but I would watch out for Clijsters, Sharapova, Lisicki and Wickmayer and possibly Klaybanova. The last 4 players are actually more fun to watch than some of the top 10 players.

She tanked a match when the score was 7-6(6) in the third?! :spit:

It would be pretty naive to think that a tight score line doesn't equal tanking. I wouldn't even call it tanking in the sense that Kim was lazy. It was just the outcome of the match (win or lose) that was important. If Kim really wanted to win those last two points at 6-6 in the tiebreak, she would've...

PP, if this was it 4U its been kinda fun calling you names etc. since Hoffy (thru Marco) screwed me around on having one of "my ppl" replace the fired Hu-Bear back in '03. :tape: I didn't realize that as a Convicted Criminal sponging off of you, Hoffy feared you bonding with a coach ala Justine-Carlos, especially as he turned out 2B...

Then why did she save the two match points at 6-4? Good god thats just a retarded argument, i really doubt she thought 'right ill just save these 2 match points, and then tank it.' :cuckoo:

Then why did she save the two match points at 6-4?

Because then you and many others would believe she isn't tanking. It makes the scoreline even closer and it looks like she's done everything she could to win. If she wasn't tanking, why could she only win two points at 6-4 and then lose the next two? Again, if she REALLY wanted to win, she would have won those last two points. If you really think she's still motivated to win International tournaments, coupled with a fine in this instance, you're just naive...

Patty is steadily becoming a great match-up for Lisicki.

It was obvious even on clay in Stuttgart how much Schnyder's loop and occasional junk benefits Lisicki. The German just gets masses of time on the ball and is aggressive enough off the return and ground to limit the excessive baseline rallies. When Patty is forced to play first-strike tennis, then she's incapacitated. See Venus Williams vs Patty Schnyder. Arguably the worst ever match-up for the Swiss.

Lisicki is a great ball-striker, but the elements in her game needed are either not there or not balancing up. If her ballstriking could be complimented by improved movement, then we'd have a potential top tier player on our hands.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever read on this forum. You think it is possible to win points just because you really want to?

I guess we could say the same thing about Lindsay when she lost ton Sabine a few years ago as well.

I haven't given up on Patty but Sabine probably has one of the biggest serves in the game now, especially for her size.
You add to the fact that this is an indoor tourni, Patty was going to have a tough go today.

Peer is a very good returner especially on her backhand.
And she's very consistent. I will not count her out against Sabine.
If she can keep her first serve percentage up, she can really do some damage in their match.

Wawrinka's ass.
