There will be only 5 players to watch here too, and they'll all be amaze and not Georgian. :) okbai!

Chang, Kai-chen (Taiwan)
current rank 101 (not sure she will end 2009 outside the top 100 or not)
achivement: obvious (Safina Tokyo)
born in 1991

probably Ksenia Pervak? Junior champion.

She is clearly not a "BOMBSHELL ensuing hopeful", that's what I meant! Quite a few people expect her to be AT LEAST Top50 next year, so it wouldn't be a Bombshell, unless she goes much further.

Exactly. Yuliya has a nice game and I hope to see her do well in the future, but someone, who is older than Wozniacki for example and turns 20 early next season, can hardly be considered an up-and-comer.

Oops. I posted this in the wrong thread. How much longer do we have to wait on Sloane?

She started to show up on my radar this year, but being utterly obsessed with Lena and her bangs leaves me very little time to focus on younger players who might actually win slams and not rip my heart out 40 odd times.

Sloane has had a great year in juniors but hasn't played much pro tennis. Unfortunately, her father died in a car accident this summer and she hasn't played a tournament since the US Open. Understandably so. She turned pro though a couple weeks ago, signing with BEST. I expect her to play a lot in 2010.

Sloane seems to be like a lot of the other Americans who train a lot but don't compete much. Not a winning development formula IMO. I know she's playing some upcoming exhibitions but those do little for your development -- just hit-and-giggles and a few bucks. Hopefully she will get out there more in some real competition in 2010!

ps, Sloane didn't know her dad very well at all and only went to his funeral because her mom told her she would regret it later in life if she didn't. Doubtful that was the reason she hasn't played much lately.

Well Krunic and Curovic are the next Serbian sisters. They both had good Junior careers but in Seniors they both seem to be coming out of their shells, have only seen Krunic briefly, but she has a nice game, she's really small and pretty feisty. She's 16 and has won 3 10ks already and its about to step upto 25ks and beyond probs. Curovic is 14 and already ranked 730-something, and she's already like 5ft10 :rolls:. She's played like 6 events and made 3 10k SFs and and final and also qualified for a 25k. I've seen her play and her game (not her strokes) reminds me of Danielas. Just much more elegant. :inlove:

Leykina is the next Kournikova in terms of looks, Pimkina just has a really lovely game, she's 18 but I guess she was deciding whether to go to Uni or not because it's her first year on tour and then the Kichenok twins are already the GOATest Twins in history. :inlove: I'm not saying any of them are future GOATs, and i'm sure some won't even crack the top 150 but we'll see. ;)

The 'brat pack' needs to be made up of players that we expect to trouble the TOP 100 a lot next year, and I expect Rogowska to do that.

Which implies these players will be in the top 100. WTA gives fewer points now for ITF events.

The type 1 trend is
-one or two tournaments the first year
-several tournament wins the second year
-inside the 100 by middle of the third

These player tend to be skinny(ier) than average. Partly because of their age and partly because they play very intensely. High levels of cortisol and endorphins. I don't put a lot of stock in good attitudes etc. Aggressiveness is not a trait to get in with. Can't-stop-winning is.

Never seen her play but Nikola Hofmanova fits that profile. Really easy to find.

Type 2 trend is
-mixed result first few years
-becomes difficult to beat over time

These players are usually sort of physically advantaged if not down right menacing. I would imagine these players would be having a more difficult time ascending the ranks with the current point system.

It's a good list. However Leykina, Sharipova, Gavrilova, Curovic, Allgurin and Goldfield will probably be playing 10ks mostly. If your criteria is that they will be beating top 100 players next year it might be hard for them, since they probably won't even play any yet. It might be better to put them in Brat Pack 2011 or 2012 maybe ;)

With all this leader talk. Olivia could be the main leader, while others, who supposedly should trouble the Top100 next year, should build a leader group and there is a following group for players, whose progress you/we will watch on a lower level. Like the Brat Pack(Rogowska, Kalabina, Jones, Diyas & Robson) and the minis.

That was at the beginning of the year... she has grown leaps and bounds since then and has been climbing to career highs for weeks now, about to crack the top 200. Since the AO, which was her first grand slam appearance and against a player who the crowd was completely behind, she reached a SF of a 50k on clay, won a round at the US Open, reached a final of a 50k, and in juniors cracked the top 10. I think she deserves to be on the list, seeing as she's clearly on the rise.

Agreed. I can't see her getting too high. She may crack the top 100 but I doubt she'll go much higher, there's just not much there. She has no weapons at all, she's not very fast and she often has random periods of UE-fests.

24 players, I guess there's room for one more. Maybe Babos?

I dunno who Ishizu is. :rolls:

Key:
Group 1 - Players who should beginning to play top against top 150/100 players and beating them.
Group 2 - Players who should be beginning to play 25ks+ regularly
Group 3 - Players who are beginning to find their feet on the WTA tour at 10k level and maybe a few 25ks or WCs into their home tournies.

The X axis of this graph is rank (players 1-200). The blue line is age in days. The red line is rank points.

Graph shows two things. 1)Age is meaningless. 2)Ranking points favor players who have them.

She needs to get away from the part-time lovers. Enter more tournements. Stop earning wins and start taking them.

Oudin suffered the same thing in the USA field. She did well in two slams and she is at a point (rank ~48) where she will have opportunities now.

Oh cool. Yeah I think we should definitely keep an eye on a couple of interesting older players (older than the 1995/1994 players currently on the sidelines) so we can we can throw them in if they have good results too. Also want to put Kyle McPhillips out there. But G.vinjured needs to put a limit on the gurks. :rolls:

I was really impressed with Kyle. In only her second pro tournament she made the finals. She was really smart, great a the net, and had a good variety of shot selection. I think how good she'll be will depend on how much she can improve and add some more power to her game. She is a solid prospect though. :)

No, my intention was not of superiority, because I am not that much older! :p It was just a guess based on the few things I could tell. I'm glad I was right. :D Thanks. Have fun with your thread!
