Ugh, ugly game against a clay-courter. Clijsters will roast her if she plays like that.

Well done Sabine :yeah: Some great play in periods but she'l need to get a lot more 1st serves in than today (51%) to stand a chance against Kim. I Hope she can pull it off though. :)

Nice win for Sabine!
Made some great points, important for her to win such matches and just play after so many injuries etc.!
Was great to see how she came back from 5-6* to 76(1) and some :hearts: point at BP against her in 2nd set!
Last service game at *5-4 was really impressive!
Polana wasnt that bad today, she played a good match I think, wasnt that easy for Sabine!

Well, she will play better for sure against Kim, she always plays some good matches against the top players :)

This was about an up and coming 20 year old future star against an 18 year old power player named Hercog. This match was as thrilling as it can get. Both players were at the top of their game. It was power vs power.

Sabine scored a point in game 4 set 2 on a play where it appeared that Hercog had hit an apparent winner over the head of Lisicki reaching the baseline. Sabine, who is a fabulous retriever ran it down and hit a shot down the line over the head of Hercog for a winner. That was clearly the play of the tournament. It would give Lisicki a 3-1 lead in set 2.

Sabine had to face 4 aces in Hercog's ist service game in game 2, although Hercog was given credit for only 3, but it was really 4. In game 2 set 1 Hercog saved 5 break points taking a 2-0.

Lisicki came back winning the next 3 games including game 5 holding at Love to take a 3-2lead. However, Hercog was about to present more headaches for Lisicki. Lisicki had 2 break points in game 6, but Hercog held to tie the match at 3-3.

Lisicki had problems with DF's in this match totalling around 7, but in game 7 of the ist set Sabine cranked up 2 Aces and 1 unreturned serve to take a 4-3 lead. Both players continued to hold with the match tied at 5-5.

Lisicki saved 4 break points in her next service game before finally succumbing to Hercog.Sabine never looked worried at any point of the match. The undaunted Lisicki broke Hercog at Love to send the match to a tiebreaker. Lisicki wasted no time winning the tiebreaker 7-1, although Hercog gave Lisicki everything she could handle in set 1.

Lisicki took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd set as Hercog coughed up 2 DF's in the 3rd game. The rest of the match each player held serve. Both players played beautifully in a match that was more like a title match.

How the hell is Polona a clay courter?:confused: She has quite bad movement and point construction, but a great serve + forehand. :tape: First time seeing her play, so maybe today was unortodox play, but she looked pretty much like a grass specialist.

Solid play from Biene. We'll see what Clijsters has to offer.:wavey:

Sabine did soild enough to seal the victory. i am used to her about 50% 1st serve so can't complain about it. at last she find out Polona's backhand couldn't handle much power, make things easier.

Polona did better than i expected, still too rely on her serve and forehand though. backhand drive is better but can't last through long stretch. footwork no need to mention.

I know that statistics and results, that's why I'm asking. ;) Her game doesn't fit into being only good for clay courts, she has a lots of power and is agressive. She should of be able to beat Hofmanova, McHale, Gallovits, Brianti or Nakamura. Although, looking at the clay opponents, no really big wins, mostly just weak opponents, just Vinci and Kleybanova, that's not really to good of a clay courter either.

Thanks for your post. I haven`t watched the match and it`s good to read a post from a person who has seen it.

I also think Polona could (will?) be a good player for grass and hard courts ... it seems she has trained mostly on clay since she was a child. She needs more experience on hardcourts and maybe also needs to erase this "I`m a clay court player" label from her head.
This fall I was actually surprised that she`s chosen some ITF tournaments on clay instead of playing for example Taškent, Guanghzou, ... Yes, she got some points on those ITF ... but still - in her age it`s more important to gain experience than to try to be 69th instead of 78th ranked ...
