100% agree

it seems the surname CLIJSTERS is enough to become a WC.

why she didn´t entered the qualifying?
it was possible without WC

Sep 21st, 2002, 03:28 PM
Yes, and it won't help her one bit. She will most definitely receive 1 point for this tournament. She would have gotten at least 1 point in qualifying as well, and it would have been much better for her.

Strange to give Elke one. After all there are many more juniors with better results. i would have thought they would have given the wc to a German player.

Sep 21st, 2002, 05:05 PM
there are 2 Wc for german players (Rittner + Müller)

but i don´t understand it.
i think it is a slap in the face for all german talents.
cause they work hard and then the WC get a junior from Belgium because she has a famous sister. this is a joke and a big motivation for all german talents.

Anna-Lena Groenefeld was more worthy

I'm quite happy that they didn't give the wild-card to Anca. She usually plays better in MD if she qualified before. She reached a final that way. :)

BTW, can you refuse to take a wild-card and play QUAL instead?

Sep 21st, 2002, 05:35 PM
its your choice whether to accept WC or not ;)

Ugghhh f*cking repulsive!! The same thing is going to happen to Elke that happened to Torrey Gambill. People are going to eventually take the cue that she can't win matches beyond the 10K level (yet) and refuse to give them to her. They eventually stopped giving Torrey Gambill WC's and his best performance in his career so far is the 2nd round in a 15K qualifying event (his only win of his career)

To be honest, I wouldn't object to her getting a wildcard into the doubles as she has at least prove herself in that department. But if you win one round in 10K draws sporadically, what makes them think she'll win a round in a Tier II event, with a pretty strong field. I'd love to see her draw a top 15 player and get put in her place, as heartless as that sounds.

*very shocked but pleased :o*

Go Elke ;)

Oh and the reason why she accepted the WC... $$$ ;)

Sep 21st, 2002, 08:21 PM
Doesn't Kim give her any of her $$$ ? ;)

Don't get annoyed with Elke if you were offered a MD wildcard for Leipzig would you accept it or decline it. Elke would of been nuts to decline it.

Stupid decision! And this is way too soon for Elke herself, I think!

Sep 23rd, 2002, 12:38 PM
How ridiculous.
She won't make it to 2nd round, but I pray she does, so she gets a BIG SPANKING from Serena, World's #1.
It will be not only Serena winning 6-0 6-0, but it will be a case where Serena wouldn't lose 1 point!!!!!!!

I can perfectly understand people criticising the tournament directors for handing Elke a WC, it seems a little premature.
But please don't attack Elke herself, she would be absolutely crazy not to take it...
Blame the tournament directors, not Elke!

Good luck Elke. :bounce:

I guess you don't know Elke... don't judge people by their rankings or junior status. Elke will definitly win points...she loves coming to the net...and Serena hates such players (remember Els Callens, Wimbledon2002)

Sep 24th, 2002, 02:31 PM
and is this grass?
By the way, Serena loves people that come to net...
she loves a target, she has stated this numerous times.
And she has shown she has the best passing shots in the women's game.

Sep 24th, 2002, 02:38 PM
hey guys, stop to talk about a macth up between Elke and Serena
it will not happen

Anca will beat her today :wavey:

Sep 24th, 2002, 02:39 PM
this is a fast surface...

Serena loves people that come to the net??? LMAO Those are the only people who can beat her...lots of variation. You can't beat Serena from the baseline.

Sep 24th, 2002, 06:18 PM
BYE BYE ELKE :wavey:

Sep 24th, 2002, 07:08 PM
well aren't you friendly to the poor girl:rolleyes:

Sep 24th, 2002, 07:28 PM
Better luck next time Elke....

Sep 24th, 2002, 08:42 PM
In a way, it was inevitable. She came in "cold" as a wildcard. The qualifers had the advantage of already having played competitively on the courts PLUS Anca had the homecrowd behind her. But she got six games in. That's better than bagels and breadsticks. Next time, she should go through the qualifying rounds as it would give her more match play and get her better prepared.

No exuses!!!!!! I think at this moment Elke is not ready for the WTA Tour, she plays here because her big sister Kim Clijsters. She stays about 800 I think and she has the luck she get so much WC because of Kim, look in Atwerp, in Knokke Heist and here in Leipzig. And if she use the WC, but she doesn't. Ok its not her fault but look, in the junior tour she is good ecpecialy in the doubles, but she is not good enough for the WTA Tour, if she plays QF, most of the time she lost in the first rounds there. So she will stay around the 800 and then????? I hope for her she make some progress, but I think she will become a player who always stays about the 200, and that plays tournament after tournament and lose most of the time in the QF!! So Elke I hope what I say is not treu and that you play amazing in the future!!

Greetzzz Whatzup

OK, probably Elke isn't ready for this level of tournaments. I rather see her playing tournaments of a category less heavy ($110.000)... But her draws weren't that easy in Antwerp, the same in Brussels. She lost from Schnyder 6-3 7-6 in Antwerp (Patty reaches semis here) and she lost from Muller (8th seed) 6-4 6-2 in Brussels... But she took Widjaja to 3 sets in the Junior event of the French Open: 4-6 6-2 7-5... I think if she once has a nice win under her belt, she is launched for so much more...
Go Elke!!!!!:)
