Didn't JJ receive a time violation? I wonder if her coach's stopwatch had gone on a picnic or something.

Nunez did affect that game!!!
He's a professional ref - he knows when to & how to put a player of their game.
Convinced he did it to affect the result!!!
Cunning.

He is obviously racist :weirdo:

Well done JJ :yeah:

Should really have been a third set bagel with all the simple forehand returns off 2nd serves she netted on mp's but at least she's through and avenged the USO loss :)

She'l need to play much better than she did in the first 2 sets if she's going to have any chance of winning this tournament.

JJ always makes games an adventure, but she is an entertainer. It took 8 deuces in game 6of the 2nd set before JJ lost that game. JJ bounced right back in the next game to close out the match. JJ had 7 match points. Breathe easier Shake EM Up Janko.

:spit:

It's only one match. Coming off right wrist injury...

Jelena never had a killer forehand anyway. But this year it's a more aggressive shot and she's making more errors from that side.

sweet revenge JJ  , but should have closed it at 6-4 5-4* 30-30
and missing 6 mps in 3rd is just :help:

Yari made the biggest mistake when leaving the court at the end of the 2nd. Jelena was so frustrated but able to convert her frustration into focus meanwhile. She finally played cat and mouse with Yari - a big difference with the match at the USO

WELL DONE JELENA, KEEP GOING AGAINST LUCIE !!!

Okay, having got over the disappointment of the actual result there was a lot to appreciate in this match. Yeah, Yari made too many critical errors in the 1st set and her form really did dip at the start of the 3rd but I love the spirit and joy with which she played the whole match. Prior to the start of the match Yari had this beautiful smile on her face and even in defeat after the match that smile remained completely untarnished. Indeed through the whole match Yari played in a fearless purposeful passionate way that only someone who loved competing, win or lose, could. I also loved how much touch Yari is incorporating into her game and during the 1st and even more during the 2nd sets this strategy worked a treat and won Yari a lot of great points and fustrated the hell out of Jelena. In fairness it should be added that by the third set Jelena was handling that and anything else Yari threw at her pretty comfortably but it was fun while it lasted. And finally I loved how even at 5-0 down in the third Yari still was still fighting for every point with total belief and focus, she never got down on herself. Both in the style Yari played the match and the spirit, Yari showed plenty of reasons why I adore her today.

Jelena in contrast was full of negativity the whole match which contrasted hugely with Yari's positivity. The commentators quite rightly commented that at 5-0 down in the third if someone just started watching the match as they looked at the body language of both players they would think it was Yari who was leading 5-0 not Jelena. And yet in a funny way Jelena's negativity was as endearing as was Yari's positivity. She too is a very likable player. And I have to say the way Jelena raised her game hugely at the start of the third set playing some simply inspired tennis, sadly just at the same time as Yari's dipped at bit, meant the 1st five game of the 3rd set were very onesided. It was very deserved and well earned victory for Jelena.

The end of the season cannot come soon enough for Jelena. I don't understand why she's so desperate to qualify for Doha when she looks like she decidedly does not enjoy being on tennis court.
