Well, it changes of the Cibulkova-A. Bondarenko hype of the previous years.

She is hardly slam winning material yet :o

He always says shit, he doing what he does the best... when she starts beating top players then we can say something...

What a fool. He does realize that her semifinal run in the US Open was entirely draw-driven, right? She basically beat the kind of players you'd beat to win a good tier IV.

Eh, give her credit. She capitalized on the draw and others in her section didn't. She did play great to beat Kateryna too.

However now she has the Wertheim curse :sobbing:

He may have meant darkhorse to cause some upsets and get far not necessarily win, though i think he meant the latter xD

Well...at least he didn't pick a Golden Flower

Wickmayer is good, but not at that level yet, however we know that Serena will probably not win, so it's possible, it's not that she can't beat the top 10. The eventual winner won't be one of the top 8 seeds.

I would say Clijsters should be as big a favorite as Serena in Australia, but only the shadow knows.

The eventual winner won't be one of the top 8 seeds. Why not? If anything, she's the top favourite. She's the defending champion, she'll probably be ranked #1 (and be the top seed), and it's by far the slam she's most successful at (and the one where she's had the most dramatic comebacks and ruthless final demolitions). So unless they actually ban her from playing it, I think she's the clear favourite. Unless of course, you're going by her "every odd year" trend at the Australian Open.

That said, I hope she doesn't win. I want Venus or Kim to win it.

She lost in the first round last year, so she could do some more rising in the ranks:eek:

No she wonīt win because she never, never win in even years...

2004 - didnīt even could to go defend, Kneerena
2006 - lost to Hantuchova in straight sets in R3, Fatrena
2008 - lost to Jankovic, when Serena played one of the worst matches of her life, Errorena
2010 - ???

I personally think she has a great ballbashing game that is at least a little more consistent than her contemporaries.

Justine Henin! :tape:

The difference is that back then it wasn't like she was ranked #1/2 and she was clearly unfit.

For the record, Jon Wertheim writes for Sports Illustrated, an American magazine, not for CNN. The sports website CNN/SI is still a joint venture between Sports Illustrated and CNN, but Wertheim has no connection to CNN.

Her game is far from flawless and I will be very surprised if she wins more than one slam in her career. It is good enough to beat up on ballbashing UE-machines because she is quite steady, but her technique is unadequate at the highest level.
