So, is #1 still possible for Vee and Rena if Black/Huber lose 1st round of Doha and the sisters win the title? I remember seeing more than one person do a points breakdown but I can't find (or remember!) where it was!

Yes, this has been known since Beijing.

but i didn't know if the situation had changed, as it was a close deal then, hence me saying "still possible"

Yes, it is still possible.

Bluber's best 11 points would be: 1400, 1000, 900, 900, 800, 800, 500, 470, 350, 350 and then the 690 from losing SF at YEC (They are losing their 1500 from YEC, and Zurich and Linz points soon). This would equal to 8160. Venus and Serena would have 8250 from winning YEC and gaining 1500.

For the WS to be #1 they need 4 things to happen:
-Bluber lose QFs of Beijing
-Bluber don't win Moscow
-Bluber lose SFs of Doha
-WS win Doha

okies :yeah:

It seemed like a practically hopeless thing back in tokyo/beijing but now it's down to this one tourney!!

and I should mention that francy (and alisa) are partly to thank for that

I guess since it wasn't pointed out until Beijing and 2 days before the Bluber QF. But after they lost it seemed possible since stefi62 told us that they wouldn't play Moscow from Liezel a few days later. So it's coming down as expected to YEC:p

It would be amazing if the William Sisters end the year #1 with only 6 tourneys played :worship:

haha wudnt it just!

it'd be the icing on the cake if serena steals back #1 at doha and then the singles and doubles #1s are both slam winners!

So it all comes down to Bluber's performance at the YEC? If they win their first match they keep the no.1 for 2009 regardless?

Pressure!

Yep, there would be no way for Williams to past them.

Well - Spaniards play in Moscow so they can overtake sisters in ranking and get 2nd seed. Then Williams could play Bluber in 1st round. ;)

You are the second person I've seen say that. Are you doing this based off the race? The draw is based off the ranks, not ranks in the race. Look at 2008, Vivibel qualified second, but played Bluber in SF because they were the 3rd ranked team going in.

I though seeds are based on race but ok. I see I'm wrong. ;)

I think this should be reviewed as qualification for the tournament is all about the race, whereas qualification for other tournaments is based on ranking (ie, the higher you are ranked, the better the chance of getting into the main draw of a tourney, or otherwise of getting into the tourney at all!)

And it seems odd that a player could grab that 8th spot last minute, but a good performance at the championships the year before could RANK them higher than two or three players, so they are seeded #5/6/7!

I'd like to see the seedings be done based on the race as that is what counts when considering who gets to play the tournament
