Apparently this was over in around 48 minutes. :tape: I was hoping Buchina would put up a decent fight and show she deserved the WC, but this just makes me irritated that they snubbed Dokic all over again. :rolls:

Oh well, good for Petrova. :yeah:

Buchina couldn't handle any of Petrova's serves. But Nadia didn't play that well at all, well, you couldn't really tell. :p

Good for Nadia, but I agree with others: what an absolute waste of a wildcard.

Jelena Dokic would have put up a decent fight at least and make Petrova work harder for her points...

all Dokic fans :o
so what Yana lost, it was expected

1997 Nadia lost to Conchita here 1-6 1-6
next yr Nadia beat her losing 2 games, not that i think Yana will ever make top 100.

2nd WC should have gone to another Russian.

The first set was closer than the score indicates, plenty of deuce games.

But hey, I was on Petrova at -6.5, YEEHA!

1. That was 1998/1999, not 1997/1998
2. She was much more accomplished and younger than Buchina when she got a WC
3. In 1998 Nadia lost in 2nd round after beating Majoli
4. She was DB-ed by Conchita
5. In 1999 she won 6:1 6:4

Yes, it was expected, but with Dokic playing as a wild card, the match would have been more
interesting and tight...

Nadia didin't play so good, she wasn't even serving at her best but maybe it's because this match was hers from the beginning..I think the stats are 14 winners and 14 Ues
and buchina was horrible...I never saw her but she made lots of Ues

Now I wish if only one of those "Silver...Golden <whatever they're called> Flowers" got this WC instead of Buchina... That's how it goes in Russia. Pity.

Well done Nadia ;)

Excellent choice of WC.

Now, Buchina with these 48 minutes of amazing experience will finish the year in the top 10.

PS. Yes, I am being bitter because Jelena didn't get the WC, and it turns out that I have the right to be.

No point in being angry about Dokic not getting a WC, if it wasn't going to be Buchina, chances are it would have gone to any number of other Russian players instead. This is their only WTA level tournament, their players ought to be getting the WC's. I just don't understand why they picked Buchina where there seems to be so many other Russians who would have likely done much better...

And considering Dokic just lost to Arvidsson on Sunday, she still not playing at the level she'd probably like to be yet (no discredit to Sofia, she is a good indoor player). I'm glad she's taking a week off to rest, and hopefully she will continue to pick up some more wins and points in these French ITF's late in the season.

Buchina reached the finals of the US Open junior event this year. It probably seemed like a good idea at the time to give her a wild card, but considering Yana has never even faced somebody in the top 200 before, this was probably asking for too much right now. She would have done better with a qualifying wild card.

Is Buchina just reach US open Junior final?
If so not too bad for give her WC in my view.

I agree, qualifying would have seemed very reasonable, and certainly justified with having reached the US Open Junior final...Really the only surprise is because there are so many Russians. If Buchina was from Luxembourg, we'd probably expect that she'd be in with a WC over in their tournament this week.

what r u talking about? :o This girl was RU at the J USO this year beating Laura Robson in SF. It would be disgraceful if they didn't award her with a WC.

Not entering the debate on whether Buchina was a worthy MD WC recipient or not. She has a good defensive BH slice, hit a few decent shots here and there even though her strokes don't look very fluid, and her serve seems big (motion also a bit ugly though), but she clearly has no experience at returning a serve as fast as Petrova's (completely botched nearly all her BH ROS), and in the 2nd set couldn't get a FH over the net to save her life. And her fitness and court coverage seem subpar.

I have to say that the Kremlin Cup is an EPIC FAIL as a TV viewing experience. The camera angle is bad (placed too far away), the ball difficult to track, and the surface must be very tricky - there's no other explanation for the consistently dire quality of the tennis played here, year after year.

A qualifying wildcard would've been appropriate. As is seen in this result and from what people seem to be saying about her level.

Are you kidding me? :spit: One good result in a junior GS does not mean that a player should be given a MDWC into a WTA event. A QWC would be understandable, but "It would be disgraceful if they didn't award her with a WC" ... ?? :o You've gotta be joking.

Heather Watson actually won the USO Juniors, do you think it's a disgrace to not give her MDWCs into WTA events too? :o

Strong start, Nadia!:D:angel:

Nice slice serve to finish the match.

3 Aces, 1 DF.
1st serve points won: 24 of 26 (92%)
Match took 48 minutes.

Good luck vs A.Bondarenko, Nadia!
Could be tough.

Btw I don`t like the surface in Moscow. IMO it looks ugly. Not a joy to watch the matches because of this.:(
