View Full Version : Sveta is Kuzzy no more... As I have been saying........

Sveta posted a blog and asked not to call her Kuzya anymore. It is a fine nickname for a teen, but not a for a grown-up ----> I have been trying this board to understand for a while now.

I hope this nickname is now gone forever :bounce:

Тут спрашивали, как я отношусь к тому, что меня называют Кузей. Раньше мне это нравилось, относилась к этому без проблем. Я не обижаюсь, но сейчас мне кажется, я уже чуть-чуть повзрослела, выросла из Кузи и хочу, чтобы меня все называли Света или Светлана. В общем, это моя просьба к людям.

Someone once said Ai didn't like being called Sugi, and I could understand that. ( I don't know if it's true or not, sometimes it's just hearsay)

i don't think she'd mind to be called by last name. But an abbreviated nickname version doesn't sound nice in Russian especially for a young lady

No need. You don't get it. You think that she is being a "good young lady" by asking her fans to stop using a nick-name that they've called her for years. I. and some others, think she's being trite ungracious and silly. As if her fans are in her private life? Does she think she'll be on a date and someone will go "Hey Kuzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeee, what's up?"

actually YOU don't get it. the nickname DID move from the fan boards to the mainstream tennis with commentators and some players are now using it. I'm sure she'll apprreciate if in her professional environment she's called normal name. wouldn't YOU want to be called by your normal name in her office rather than some offensive nickname?

In all fairness, if Lena posted on a blog that she hated having old bald guys obssessing over her bangs, I wouldn't stop doing that either. I call her Kuzzy and Sveta depending. So she'll only be pissed at me 50% of the time.

That never took off she has generally always been called Maria, Masha or Sharapova Sharpie was a nickname a few TF posters used in her early days. That being said if that was her nickmame (and had been for a while) Maria and her fans would have to deal with it.

The point is you cant change your nickname regardless of how much you dislike after it has been used for an extended period. If anything showing your distaste will cause people to call you that even more. Nickmakes are more about what others want to call you not what you want to be called. I have very rarely heard to someone making up their own nickname, that would be so pretentious.

This is wrong threat. She didn't say not to call her Kuzzy. She said not to call her Кузя ('ku:zja, 'kuzia). That is different. In Russian it means something like little grasshopper and can be used as a nickname for a girl of 7 years old. International Kuzzy has only phonetic meaning and not related to the age. So IMHO there is nothing wrong with this.

Exactly. Most people have nicknames that they hate. And mothers are notorious for giving out the most embarrassing special nicknames for their children. But hey, if someone is really that uncomfortable with a nickname, if you really care about them you'll stop calling them by it. Well...except for your mother who will forever think she can call you what she wants simply because she did that little minor thing of giving birth to you.

The point of this is that Sveta herself is annoyed by the nickname, not her fans.

Who fucking cares ? It is only a nickname for god'sake.

I hate the nickname "Débo" but my friends didn't stop calling me Débo. I told them once, but I don't give a shit to be honest

Jeez, just chill up !

Apparently SHE cares. It's a sign of very basic education and politeness to call a person the way she wants to be called. The fact that YOU don't give a shit, doesn't make it right to not a have a tiny bit of respect towards Svetlana. :wavey:

How rude to call Kuznetsova Kuzzie.

I think it is even worse than to be called a fucking brainless ballbasher.

I agree that it's a mark of respect to call someone what they would like to be called (sorry, not worded well, I need my caffeine to hit!). Maybe Svetlana never ever looks at this site or maybe she sits down in the evenings to chill out with Tennis Forum - I don't know, she has stated that she doesn't like that nickname and I think therefore it's respectful not to use that name. Yes, it may not be the biggest issue in the world but it's about (the 'R' word again!) resp...

(I personally can't stand the baby names like Juju and Kimmy etc - these are grown women, not little children! Maybe I'm over serious about this, but this is how I feeeeeel y'all... ;) )

That she would want to tell her fans what nickname they should or should not use for her seems trite.

I've never heard of any other athlete or sports person who sends instructions to their fans on how to call them and that they no longer use this and that and the other nickname and only use some hand picked one instead. But I'm sure it exists somewhere. In fact isn't there some American football player who officially changed and renamed himself after the number on the back of his shirt or whatever?

Sveta may have got this pet peeve due to her interest in Rap music, where guys like Calvin Broadus and Sean Combs regularly tweak their stagenames and tell everybody not to use the old one

Yeah, don't call her Kuzzy anymore, call her Ace, or The Great One or Mrs Charming or whatever other flattering attribute you can think of, as long as she approves it, its a sign of politeness and basic education to call her whatever she wants to be called :tape:

The question here is not what you find rude, but what she finds rude or inappropriate. :) She obviously doesn't like it. It's really, really basic and actually very easy to respect this a tiny bit.

Well, thank you but I think it's not deserved. Until now, I never thought it would be a problem for someone to call another person, especially one he doesn't know, in a desired way.
