I know we have this coming week and then the top 8 in Doha, but what is this event? Like who plays in this International Series? I'm just curious what this event is about considering the big one runs the 10/26-11/1 week.

It's the Grand Slam of MM events:p This is primarily for those who have won Internationals this year. Then the best ranked 10 of those who have won one get in, 2 WCs for a total of 12.
Then there will be 4 groups of 3, with the best in each group making the semis.
Hope that helps:p

Mostly it does, but does that mean it'll be a lot of the one's who played in Doha or most likely not, that's the only thing I'm not sure about.

Players who participated in Doha cannot play, but alternates who don't get in can. :)

If you play in Doha, you can't play Bali.

Thanks for clarifying, but I think the Doha one should've been the end all tournament for the women's year. I think having this Bali event is a little bit anti-climatic after having Doha played out.

What I want to know is what will happen to Pennetta. She'll definitely qualify for Bali but due to Fed Cup will not play. The WTA said the 10 highest ranked players who qualify must play (and I presume will get penalised ranking-wise and financially if they don't).

Pennetta won't officially qualify because they already know she isn't playing because of Fed Cup just like Fran and Roby. And I doubt they can penalize her for playing Fed Cup instead, which brings us back to the point that the scheduling of Fed Cup and Bali sucks.

Doha alternates are eligible to play Bali, even if they participate in matches.

It is not mandatory for Doha alternates and players playing Fed Cup final.

So to summarise this tourney officially sucks!!! I could cope with it if Bali and Doha were the other way round in the schedule. Plus the points on offer are quite high. Like other posters have said it reminds me of the time about 10 years ago when Pattaya City would be held the week after the YEC. The YEC should always be the very last tourney of the year.

Yeah, Bali should definitely be before Doha, and neither should conflict with Fed Cup. That really sucks that Pennetta won't be playing :help: Hopefully, Stosur will win Osaka and then she can take her place. And hopefully Clijsters will win Luxembourg and then she can play there too. That would definitely kick the tournament up a notch :)

What a foolish tournament

The organisers were not very smart in promoting it as a tournament for the future stars. The younger girls are too flashy and inconsistent, it was always going to be the older girls who consistenly get solid results and win the matches that they should who were going to qualify here.
