Yanina was up 4-2 in the ist set that saw Flavia come back and take a 5-4 lead. The ist set went to a tiebreaker with Flavia holding a 2-0 lead, but Yanina scored the next 4 points to take a 4-2 lead in the tiebreaker. However a bad call on Flavia's serve was called out when it was clearly in. No tram was used in this match. Flavia was also robbed on another call in the ist set, when Yanina's shot was clearly out of bounds. Yanina came back to win the ist set 7-5 in the tiebreaker.

In the 2nd set Yanina and Flavia battled out this spectacular match like it was a title match, but in the end it want't just the power of Yanina that won out, it was also her retrieving ability which was splendid.

Yanina has power, can retrieve and serves beautifully. I would say the WTA better start watching out for Yanina immediately. She is a seriious candidate for the top 10 in 2010.

Actually Yanina led 41*,before she started choking, and let Flavia serving for the set at *54.Then,in TB Fla started with 2-0,Yanina won the next 3(3-2),Flavia next 2(3-4),Yanina next 3(6-4),and finally won 75:p

Flavia! :bigcry:

I do want Yanina to do well so her US Open SF won't be seen as a fluke. I'm not really a fan, but she's got a lot of talent.

Yanina did well to recover from those 2 DF's in game 7 set 1 which cut the lead to 4-3 in the ist set. Neither player looked worried or tired in this fantastic match. Penneta looked disugusted during the handshake. It was truly a tough match.

Well done Yanina :yeah: Happy she's proving her doubters wrong because many people said she would be struggling for MD wins after her USO run.

Shame for Pennetta but I'm not surprised she hasn't lived up to her seeding here because she looked a little bit flat in Beijing.

watching that live in Linz it was such a great match...:worship: to both
i'm sorry Flavia lost, but if you want to be a top player you have to be mantally stronger than retarded linemen...she won't qualify for Doha then :o but at least she blinked her eye to me getting off the court :inlove:

Wickmayer has minimal technique, but she has SUCH aggressive tendencies. Great to watch.

Watched from 4-5 in the 1st set to the beginning of the 2nd set when both of them were playing well.

WD Yanina. I'm glad she won. Only thing I don't like about her is her grunt.

Wickmayer has minimal technique, but she has SUCH aggressive tendencies. Great to watch.
 yeah she wins her matches on hardly any technique, what does that say about the other girls? 96% of the tour has "minimal technique" then.

Great match Yanina, do it over tomorrow :worship:

Out of the current crop of generic big power players with surprisingly good movement (Shvedova, Petkovic), Wickmayer is arguably the best, or at least the one who is more able to play a no-frills yet effective power game off both sides with a good measure of consistency.

Bad FH day for Pennetta. Could have fought harder, but it seems she hasn't got much left in the tank after a long a successful season.
