Hello? Sure is quiet here. :(

Anyways, our favorite German tennis player has twitted that she is already practicing in Luxembourg.
According to her, "Everything is going well."

Good luck Sabine. :)

Btw, if Sabine happens to win this tournament, does she qualify for the mysterious Bali event?

Good that Sabine will be seeded in LUX, so it should be possible to win some matches even if she doesnt play her best tennis...but we´ll see first when the draw comes out! :)

Sabine´s quarter of the draw

LISICKI Sabine (GER/6)
-BENESOVA Iveta (CZE)

HERCOG Polona (SLO)
-QUALIFIER

SCHNYDER Patty (SUI)
-KVITOVA Petra (CZE)

SHAUGHNESSY Meghann (USA)
-CLIJSTERS Kim (BEL/2)

Not easy at all, already first round will be a hard test, h2h is 0-1, in Miami Benesova won without problems.
Hopefully Sabine is in good shape and wins this match, then QF should be possible, but we´ll see, as I said, not that easy..

She should beat Benesova especially indoors. 2nd round should be much easier. A QF against Clijsters would be cool.

Sabine and should in one sentence is :scared:
But indoors should suit her game.

Here is something in German to her last match against Benesova in Miami.

I think it's an easy draw for her  she has to beat Benesova on a fast surface like that.

Nicely done from Sabine, some really good points from her.
Especially her serve was great today, only 3 DF´s and no break for Benesova, only one weaker service game in the whole match, but she was able to save 3 BP´s in a row there.
Benesova really didnt play good today, but was tough for her to get into her rhythm against Sabine! :)

But she should try to avoid to waste such chances as she did at 5-3*, wasn´t a problem today but could be in other matches, but that is a well known problem from her that she often needs to many chances to win a match, but still an impressive result for her, 2nd round should be possibe, if she stays healthy ;)

Monday, October 19, 2009

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first blog for the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour website :)

I'm feeling really good now, but the last few months weren't like that at all! Before the US Open I injured my shoulder and there was a big question mark over whether I'd even play there, but four days before I was able to start practicing again so I was able to go. Unfortunately I twisted my ankle during my match there, and then I got food poisoning in China a few weeks ago too. But I'm a fighter and I never let those things break me down. Last week I was at home in Berlin, practicing hard, and I'm feeling strong coming into this week...

I arrived here Friday morning. I´m here with my parents and my dog :) It´s always great to have everybody around you during a tournament. I have a Yorkshire Terrier called Happy. He doesn't come to too many events but wheh he does I enjoy the time playing with him. It's simply something different...

Today there were strikes in the city. We didn't know exactly where they would be so instead of planning on a 10-minute ride to the site, we had to make sure to have 30 minutes just in case the road right in front of us would be blocked.

I got up pretty early this morning to get a hit on center court. After my morning practice I came back to the hotel, rested a little bit, then went back to the site for my match - but it was still the first match on! I thought it would be over by then but it was okay, I just waited a bit, listening to music and reading some magazines, which helps me to stay focused yet relaxed for my match. I'm happy Anabel won in straight sets though, so I wouldn't have to wait too long!

I won my match against Iveta Benesova, 61 64. I was very happy about how I was playing - very solid and consistent. I'm also very happy my ankle and shoulder are holding up. I played Iveta in Miami this year and she beat me, so I really wanted some revenge!

About 15 minutes after I finished I did an autograph session for my fans. There were many people there and I'm always happy to put some smiles on their faces. Right after that I did press then went back to the hotel. Later I got a massage then went to the players party, which was great. Daniela and I had some fun. There was one person at our table who was eating a lot and we were both wondering how he could eat all that food... I won't tell you who it was though :) There's always some fun at the players party and it's a great way to get away from tennis for a little while.

Now I'm back in the hotel and I'll go to bed soon. I don't have a match tomorrow. I'm going to practice tomorrow morning so I'll have to get up ealry once again... I look forward to your questions and talking to you all again tomorrow!

Sabine

Why is Sabine called Bienchen by some of you guys? Is it because she is a hardworker (fleißig wie ein Bienchen)? Or does it have a different meaning?

Michael!
Oct 22nd, 2009, 01:23 AM
Bine or Binchen are normal nicknames for Sabine in Germany!
But it has nothing to do with the fact that she is a hard worker, almost everyone with the name Sabine has this nickname....also my sister for example
It is just because of the 2nd part of her name Sa-bine :p

So doesnt even matter if you say Binchen or Bienchen! :)

Sabine def. Patty 6/4 6/2

Nice scoreline but play wasnt that greats, especially her serve was a bit too weak today!
In 2nd set she played good tennis from 1-2* to 6-2, as Patty also lost the interest in the match as always :tape:

She looked already a bit tired for me, but she shouldnt be tired actually, only one hour again on court, but maybe my impression was wrong!

She has to serve for sure better in the SF, cant complain about the return, she broke Patty 7 times :)

26 57 against Bacs.

Terrible tennis, no Bali, but with such a tennis she didnt deserve it anyway!
Now the off season, she has to work definetly on her fitness, that is her biggest problem, just hope that she will get a bit more consistent when she plays more often without injuries, that today was really one of her weakest matches!

To reach the final was good, but she has to win such a final against such a player, who really did nothing special.
At least she has good chances to stay in the top 32 to be seeded at the AO, that is the only positive thing today!

Not such a good match
All her matches in Luxemburg were not that good, she would have won today with not such a good match,
but that was just :help: :tape:

1st match against Benesova was okay, but then it was getting worse and worse. But i think positive, she wasn't at her best but is still able to reach a final in Luxembourg, that's not that bad. ;)

But it's clear, she has to work on her fitness, because she has the tendency to drop down her level of play in most of the 3rd sets. Even against Peer her serve was awful in the 3rd set. But it's still positive to win such a match against a good player when you even not in the best form.

Wow...that was so painful to watch.

I can't count the number of Timea's 2nd serves that Sabine just dumped it into bottom of the net.
She totally lost confidence in her groundstrokes and had no plan B.
So it was drop shot time, all the time.

As angry as I was watching that match, I felt really sad and couldn't stay angry after Bine started crying.
It was also very classy of her to give Timea a nice hug after the match point.

U can disagree, it is your right, but for me it is clear that Timea will always have to hope that Sabine has a bad day...it will always be in Sabine´s hands if she wins a match against Timea or not....

Sorry, I don't agree, Timea was and is the biggest talent of Swiss tennis and reached Zurich QF's at the age of 15!!!!

Anyway, I'm happy with the result of the final although I wouldn't have been bothered seeing Sabine win as these two are among my fav players:D!!

Hopefully, Sabine receives a WC into Bali!
What ?! :spit: She was 17. :spit: The player she lost to then, won her first GS at this age. :p

Sabine :o
Somewhat I expected a loss, but it would have been nice for her, to go to Bali! :(

Yeah it's such a shame she lost in the final, but she can take the positives from a fantastic week where she got so far :yeah:

Of course she should be beating someone like Bacsinszky, but unfortunately it was not to be today  But 2009 has ended on decent high for Sabine and i'm sure there will be even more sucess next season :)

Unfortunately it was a bad day in Luxembourg Final for Sabine.
But reaching the Final here was a success.:D
And Timea is a talented girl who deserved her 1st WTA title.

Bacsinszky Wins First Tour Title

October 25, 2009

LUXEMBOURG, Luxembourg - Timea Bacsinszky had never made a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour final before but in her first she performed brilliantly, taking out Sabine Lisicki in straight sets for the BGL Luxembourg Open crown.

Bacsinszky's best career results on the Tour before this week were four semifinals, two last year and two earlier this year. So, unseeded and going into her semifinal match here against the red hot Yanina Wickmayer, things didn't look great for her. But the Swiss fought hard to snap the No.5 seed's eight-match winning streak in a photo finish on Saturday, 36 62 75.

Lisicki, the No.6 seed, was just as daunting on paper, some phenomenal results this year at some huge events - winning Charleston, the quarterfinals of Wimbledon - putting her as the clear favorite. And the big-serving German had just survived a gritty encounter against one of the toughest competitors in the game, former Top 15 player Shahar Peer, in the semifinals a day earlier.

Bacsinszky came out firing in the final, winning the first four games in a row and staying on serve from there to take the first set, 6-2. The second set stayed on serve until 4-4 when Bacsinszky broke again for 5-4 and a chance to serve for the title. Lisicki broke back but was again broken herself, then lost, 62 75.

"I'm really happy with the way everything went today. I played in a smart way and just went for it. I wasn't nervous at all," Bacsinszky said. "It's great to win my first title. I don't think I've realized what it means for me yet. For now I just want to stay focused because I have another tournament next week."

"Timea played well. My leg was hurting a bit but I still tried to fight. I rushed too much today and I could tell that I was tired from my semifinal," Lisicki said. "I didn't take my chances but you can always learn from something like this."

Bacsinszky also launched her official website, www.timea-b.com, on Sunday.

Two of the biggest stars of the women's game started the week but neither made it out of the early rounds. Caroline Wozniacki, the top seed, was forced to retire in her first round match with Luxembourg's Anne Kremer due to a left hamstring strain; Kim Clijsters, playing for the first time since her dream US Open run and the No.2 seed here, lost to Patty Schnyder in the second round.

"I felt good going into the match, but the injury suddenly happened," the 19-year-old Wozniacki, ranked No.6 in the world, said. "Sometimes injuries are unpredictable. I was looking forward to playing here and doing better than I did last year, and I'm sad this happened today and I had to retire."

"Patty played extremely smart today. It's tough to force errors on her and break through her game," Clijsters said. "I made more errors and my first serve wasn't working the way I would have liked it to. I had my chances in the first set and I tried to fight through. It's disappointing when you're not playing your best."

Czechs Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova won the doubles title earlier in the day with a 16 60 107 win over fellow Czechs Vladimira Uhlirova and Renata Voracova, taking five straight points from 5-7 in the match tie-break to seal their second title as a team, having won Stockholm last year. Benesova and Zahlavova Strycova now have five Tour doubles titles each.

Hi everybody,

I had a great week in Luxembourg and really enjoyed my time here! I didn't win today and I'm disappointed but I'm happy I did so well this week. The crowd was amazing. The stadium was full and they made me cry at the ceremony... It was so lovely of everybody to support me like that throughout the week!
It's not easy to come back from injuries. You have a lack of practice, matches and other little things. I'm going home with a smile on my face and a tear in my eye because I had a great week here but at the same time I wanted to win!

I have lots of room to improve and I'm looking forward to the off-season to get rest and then get started to be ready for the new season!

I'm flying home tonight, that's why I'm not writing too much... I hope that you enjoyed reading my blog this week and thanks a lot for all the questions!!!

Thanks for your support and I'm looking forward to blogging again.

Love,
Sabine

It was a very moving moment during the trophy ceremony when the crowd applauded Sabine for quite a long time and Sabine started to cry.:awww:
I`m sure it meant a lot to Sabine.:D
And Sabine deserves this, she`s a girl with a good heart.:yeah:
Of course also with a great game.
