I dont see a thread here so if I overlooked it let me know. ;)

But I just wanna say I am a little disappointed with a few of the comments in the live scoring thread. Comments of :Can they both lose so we dont need to look at them anymore?" Among a few others. I think you all who said that are pretty low. They both have good games and have enjoyed much success in the past few years. Grow up.

Anyways, I hope Petra can win this title. Love her.

Wrong. I wanted both of them to lose because I really dislike how they play - I didn't mention anything about 'not wanting to look at them any more.' Please don't twist what I said - I don't judge my favourites on looks.

And it was a bad match.

Their loss. Kvitova is a hulking monstrosity (but an adorable hulking monstrosity of a player :hearts: ) and Suarez Navarro fell out of the fugly tree and hit every branch on her way down, but both play some very sexy tennis.

Disagree.

This is the ideal battlefield for a big serving shotmaker such as Kvitova, and she made the most of it. A fair share of wild errors, yes, but a number of 1-2 points she won were simply exhilarating. The angles she opens with her sliced serve out wide to the ad court are amazing, and some of her winners were just sick. 3 consecutive DFs to drop serve halfway through the 2nd set (bad patch from both there), but closed out the match in style. Had trouble winning just about any rally that went on for more than 3-4 shots though. The new Safina-esque gear looks less bad better on her than some of the frilly dresses she wore earlier in the season, and she has now adopted Safarova's yelp.

CSN is also a shotmaker, but with a wholly different approach to the game. She earns more style points than the whole rest of the Spanish players put together, and even though her set of skills isn't particularly suited for surfaces such as this one, she managed to make the match competitive through having an excellent game plan - serving to the corners of both service boxes to keep Kvitova off balance on the return (this match featured the very best serving I have ever seen from CSN - by far), opening angles to keep Kvitova on the move, avoid needless errors and force Kvitova to work as much as possible to win every point - and executing it to near perfection. Good performance, even more so considering that this is Kvitova's best surface and her own worst, but it wasn't enough to actually win the match.

I was very impressed with CSN's defense today; got to a lot of balls, and hit at least a couple of excellent passing shots from near impossible positions - then again I suppose that Kvitova's rally shots aren't as big as they look (her kill shots are COLOSSAL though).

Dismal BP conversion rate from both - Kvitova playing well to save BPs on her serve, and throwing away a bunch of BPs on CSN's serve with clumsy errors. CSN had a SP in the 1st with Kvitova serving to stay in the set at *4-5.

Kvitova is just an awful tennis player (not talking about look here):o
Everything she does is dumb. So there are some amazing winners from time to time but how many stupid mistakes between them.
I'm sorry but that's not tennis to me;

How did Venus lose to that girl?? That's beyond me

And CSN is hopeless out of clay:help:
I'm surprised Corswandt doesn't call her a pusher:confused: : she stays far from the baseline and just spins her FH in the court.
Maybe this is because she has a one-handed BH?

If Kvitova, with her glaring shortcomings in terms of movement and footwork, tried to patiently work a point and engaged in neutral rallies until she found the opportunity to hit a 100% sure winner, then that indeed would be stupid. Going for broke ASAP is smart play (rectius, the only effective play) in her case as it masks her flaws (movement) and makes the most of her strengths (firepower).

For you, engaging in endless rallies until drawing an error from one's opponent is the only way to play tennis. It's not Kvitova's fault that you can't appreciate any rally that doesn't go on for more than 45 shots.

Because she actively constructs points through shot combinations and by opening angles. Pushers are wholly passive.

I doubt I'd hate pushers as much as I do if their main advocates in here weren't one-note trolls such as frenchie and kman.

 Let's be fair, many players have annoying fans.

I love that the WTA has different kinds of players. I have always thought that contrasting styles are the best matches. Unlike many who are worried for the tour now, I was much more concerned when there was talk that "Big Babe" tennis would take over.

Anyway, I wish I had a chance to see this match-seems like it was interesting.
