Ok,since we don't have a specific thread where we can comment or post news about Sveta's coaching situation,I think it's good idea to have one, considering the changes she's had in past year.

Well all this to say I read in a russian article that Tarpishev talked today about her coaching situation. He said Larissa is still her coach, but she can't always travel with her because she has kids and Andrey Olhovskiy plays now the role of sparring partner.

We can also post here photos of Larissa since I know she has some fans over here too ;)

Well anything coach related can go in this thread.

I still remember her as a player (when she paired with Zvereva :hearts: ) and she looks a lot better nowadays.I only found a photo from those days though. Here:

http://kuznetsova-s.livejournal.com/

I want to explain about Andrey Olkhovskiy. He is not my sparring partner. My sparring partner still is Aleksandr Krasnoroutskiy. But Andrey is another one coach. Most probably in a future I will work as with Larisa, as with Andrey. And now Larissa will go with me to Doha.

thanks for that fact,Diogenovna.I didn't know that. The only match I can remember having seen from Andrey was the one the year he defeated Jim Courier at Wimbledon. It must have been 94 or 93,well the 90s for sure.It was big surprise.

Expanding entourage: No. 3 Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia clarified her personnel situation in a recent blog entry, saying she is working with former Russian pro Andrei Olhovskiy, who is with her Down Under, in addition to Russian Fed Cup captain Larisa Savchenko. Kuznetsova's decision to leave her longtime base in Spain and move to Moscow paid off last season as she won the French Open to notch her second Slam. Olhovskiy, a Davis Cup stalwart for Russia in the '90s, won 20 doubles titles during his ATP career.

The article doesn't say she's not coaching her anymore.I think they split tournaments, that's why she has 2 coachs,Larissa has kids and can't travel all that much, the australian trip is a long one,it makes sense that it's Andrey who is with her there.

She says Larissa can't travel with her for all the tournaments and at this tournament she has stayed in Russia and it's Andrey OLhovkiy who is helping her in Melbourne.

Hi there everybody! :wavey:

This here seems to be the right place to ask questions about Larisa. ;) :)

In the Natasha Zvereva admiration thread we are right now discussing some things related to the period when she played doubles together with Larisa, and in this context I have some questions. I hope that you guys can help me out, at least partly.

Was Larisa ever inducted into the Russian Hall of Fame? And, if yes, which year?

Did Larisa ever publish her autobiography (some articles from the late 90s say that she was writing on her autobiography at that time)? Or was it published only in Russian?

Do you have any info why Larisa broke up with Natasha in 1991? Were personal tensions between them the reason?

Is it "Larisa" or "Larissa"? I always thought that it is "Larisa", but now I see that everybody here is writing "Larissa", so that I'm a bit confused now.

Oki, that's it (for now  :o ). Thanks in advance! Any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

Oh I wish I could give you answers on all this. One of the reasons why I started this thread is to gather information and more things about Larissa because it's really difficult to get any at this point unless it's about her collaboration with Sveta.Maybe next time I see Larissa I can ask her :p just kidding,I wouldn't dare,I'm too shy :o and some of these question might fall on personal info as why she broke up with Natasha (I don't know,I'm just assuming).Btw I loved Natasha :hearts:

As for the 4th,I don't really know since it's an adaptation/transcription of a russian name.I think I've seen it written with 2 "s",but you make me doubt now.The 2 "s" makes more sense for a more correct international pronunciation of her name.IN some languages like in french (and I'm sure in others too) it's different sound pronouncing one "s" or 2,and I think in russian it's pronounced as if it was written with 2 "s".But I don't really know.

Sorry,I wish I could help more.Maybe some other poster (Diogenovna?) has more info about her autobiography or the Hall of fame thing.

As it seems, her name is written with one "s", but pronounced with two. I will stick to "Larisa" then because I'm used to it. ;)

I am afraid that the reasons why she broke up with Natasha are indeed private, so that we probably will never know them. But I'm still optimistic that someone can provide some info regarding her autobiography and the hall of fame-questions because these things are "public info".

http://www.gotennis.ru/news/wp-content/uploads/savbb.jpg

there's even a Larisa match posted on youtube, you can watch it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZunPBd2tyY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnGDdULlQ-U

I love the 80s look and hairs  I have to admit at the time Natasha was my favourite from that team, and of course there was Gabriela that I liked more than all of them in that video  and then there's Steffi, who I never was a big fan of,but Sveta reminds me of her in some photos, like in that photo session they did last year for Doha player's party

That's really a great match to watch, especially the hard-fought 3rd set. The result caused mingled feelings for me. Although it was nice to see Steffi winning yet another title, I really felt sorry for Natasha. It was her serve that she lost that decided the match, and thus she seemed to blame herself for the loss. When you look at her after the match had finished it is obvious that she was REALLY pissed. And this is really sad because she played great tennis in that match, very sensible with a lot of great shots.

And also Natasha was the only one with nice hair here. :) Everyone else really looked 80s-like :tape:  ... everyone, not only the players
With the exception of Larisa. Her hair wasn't 80s-like, it was VERY special :tape: :help:  ... well, we all have our peccadillos of youth ;)

Yesterday was Andrey's birthday I only learned it because of this article that I copy:

Tennis birthdays - April 15, 2010

Andrei Olhovskiy (RUS), 44

Not a great player, but certainly a good one, with a rankings peak at No. 49 and two career titles on the ATP Tour.

He made his mark in doubles, getting to No. 6 in the world and winning 20 titles and reaching the final in 20 others. He also won the 1993 French Open and 1994 Australian Open mixed titles.

He won the Rogers Cup in Montreal with Yevgeny Kafelnikov in 1995. But he never really seemed to have a regular partner; perhaps he could take his pick.

In 1996, he won four titles, with four partners (Rick Leach, Martin Damm, Pat Galbraith and Kafelnikov).

Olhovskiy has stayed in tennis. He has beenassistant captain to Shamil Tarpischev for the women's Fed Cup team, and has periodically helped out Elena Dementieva on a one-to-one basis. He also was with Svetlana Kuznetsova in Australia as a coach.

Wow, great pic. I usually prefer Sveta's look from the court but hell she's looking great here (except the pants ).
As for the interview with Alexander Krasnoruckij (I'm not sure if in English that's how his name is spelled, maybe with "y" at the end? You guys should know I'm not following her team too much). It's not word by word translation but I guess main thoughts are here (I'm sorry but my russian is kinda rusty after all these years...;)):
1st part
Q:1st question is about how to be a sparring partner.
AK: Alex says that he wanted to quit his career but his sister Lina was in one team (whatever it means) with Sveta and discovered she needs a sparring partner and recommended him.
2nd Q: You were a big hope for Russian tennis so why did you decide to quit tennis at age 21?
AK: And why so many young talented Russian players are quitting at this age? it's ok to play tennis till age 14. than if you want to get some points and start to build your rating you need to have professional coach, you need to go abroad (with at least coach with you) to play and get points and it costs. But there is no support for you. Money is a problem. So you can't go abroad and play. If you're not playing your rating is low.
3rd Q: Sad picture.
AK: Yeah, that's why our men's tennis is low. There are some big names but behind them nobody new.
2nd part
Q: You were lucky and now you're in Sveta's team.
AK: Yeah, I joined 1,5 year ago before Doha.
Q: What did you know about sparring partnering at that moment?
AK: Nothing
Q: What was hard to do?
AK: The main problem was to start thinking different. If you practice for yourself you are focus on the elements that are good for you. As sparring partner you have to do what the leader needs. We didn't talk w/Sveta what will happen after the Doha, but thanks to "friendly characters" and to that she was happy with my game she invited me also to Australian Open.
Q: "Friendly characters" - it was the key to get hired?
AK: Yeah (it helps out of court) + professionalism.
Q:Is there any minimum of master class that sparring partner should have?
AK: It's individual... When I was 18-19 my father was also my coach. And he never played tennis professionally...
Q: What are your dutes?
AK: Practice with Sveta to improve her tennis for 4-5 hours per day. Often under control of Larrisa Sevchenko. We also work by the programm she prepered for Sveta. Larissa is great she knows all the details about tennis and so on...
Q: Do you play w/Sveta for real (there are few Q&A about it but I shorted it)
AK: Yeah sure, regularly. And we play for real, not half strenght. Who wins? It depends, but it's equals.
Q:So we can say that you play at the level of women's top 10?
AK: Well, I guess. But right before tournaments we want Sveta to play with other girls from "pro tour". It's all because I still play tennis like men, you can't start to play as girl after practising 18 years.
Q: Do you imitate any player with whom Sveta gonna play?
AK: yes
Q: And who was the most diffucult?
AK: I'll say more about who is easer for me. (ok, there are some words I don't understand :help: He says that often have to play many ?кручеными? matches. but then he says...) Many girls plays flat balls but also really hard. (well, it's not an answer I'll say, but that's what he said)

Ok, I'm too tired to translate the rest (the above is like half of the article) so if you guys interested in rest just let me know so I'll try do it tommorow, or maybe sb else will do it more professionally.

the rest is about money and alternative business, little summery:

Of course it is more easy and profitably to hit balls with rich people in Moscow rather then always travel from one place to other and help to prof.player, but Sasha likes his work and has some purposes for the future and it is a good school for him. He is not sure yet he will be a coach, he has too much ideas about his future now. Not many WTA stars has her own hitting partner. Serena, Jankovic, and Rezai has one about half of the year... Sometimes Sasha brings suggestions to work with other player, but… There is so sincere atmosphere in their team. Sveta is unique kind and absolutely matey human. For sure, it is a sin to run away from her!

I think it's really sad when players have to quite pro tennis being so young but unfortunately this is something that happens everywhere, not only in Russia.Only a few players can make a living of it.

It's interesting to read some of these things and then I have a question: does Sveta also play for Sasha's and the rest of the team travels or do each of them pay for it? Just curious. It's something I never thought before until after reading this interview.

He sounds like a nice guy, although times I've seen him he's always so serious.

May be that is Russian feature, here when you walk up the street and smiling people look at you so... strange. They probably think that you a drunk, or just a lunatic. It could not be that you have not any problem, so why do you grin? Sveta is a little bit different, I think it is Spanish influence. At least she has a talent to relax when it is need without vodka

she's in San Diego already ;) (check the tournament thread, the one with that beautiful name in Russian :p ).I think you are right,it probably means they start working in Montreal.Lighter, who posted the news thread in GM,sent me a link to L'equipe but I can't open the file now,so will try again later.

I still want to hear official confirmation before changing thread title and all,but it's such good news.It means Sveta wants to get better and is not lacking motivation, obviously whatever she was doing in that first part of the season was not working,a change was needed.Loic was a very good coach for Amélie for years and made her a more versatile player. It was with him that she lived her best moments as a tennis player,I have big hopes he can help Sveta to polish her game,we know talent is there but it needs to be worked on and a new perspective can always help that.

I'll miss seeing Larisa though.

I have mixed feelings. If it's not a hoax than it's hard to say anyhing than changing a coach like in almost each year is not always work for the better (just check Ivanovic) and on the other hand if there is no progress than some serious change should be done. But I also think that she would not quit Larissa for good.

SveD
Jul 30th, 2010, 10:06 AM
Yes, about the change of coach is big news.
But it would be better to learn from the very Sveta.
If it bears fruit, and the Sveta will work with this man I only.
But also agree with some opinions that Larissa Sveta will sometimes work.

Анна

I can't find anything either, and Sveta usually leaks that kind of news herself. I thought perhaps it was just for the USO season, if Larissa couldn't travel with her. It would be odd to change altogether, as she had her best season last year.

nothing that we already didn't know but here's an article on the coaching situation

Mauresmo unavailable, so Kuznetsova looks to Courteau

Svetlana Kuznetsova is trying to work out a coaching contract with Amelie Mauresmo’s former coach, Loic Courteau. The Russian is hoping that he will join her in Montreal.

Kuznetsova also talked to her former doubles partner Mauresmo about coaching her, but doesn’t think that the Frenchwoman wants to go back on tour full time again. The retired Mauresmo recently helped coach Michael Llodra at Wimbledon.

“I’m pretty sure that she doesn’t want to coach full time because she’s just come off the road,” said Kuznetsova, who most recently worked with Larissa Savchenko. “But she will always help me.”—Matthew Cronin

Bart77

Maybe Loic will help Sveta with support her psychological/mental confidence. Did you noticed that almost all Russian players have problems with that? (I do not believe in all this post-Soviet syndrome effects and traumas theories) I was wondering that is it maybe a some structural mistakes in trainig players in a young age in Russia. That they are training them physically but forget about the psychological/mental sphere. Or maybe it's a problem that they are not to aware of later and do not think that's important as far as technic of play or whatever.
I was reading a text about the role of coaches in tennis lately and the guy was insisting that modern coaches are more shrinks than trainers. Simply because the players do know how to hit the ball thay just do not know how to act with their stress, emotions, and things like that on the court. Anyway, I hope Sveta is doing a right step in a good direction.
Ok kids, thats enough cheap psychology for poor from me... ;)

so I take by her blog that Loïc is now also in the team.Welcome on board the Sveta express!!

Loïc Courteau is a former French tennis player. Courteau has coached the French Fed Cup team , and was the coach of Amélie Mauresmo. He has also worked with Tatiana Golovin, but undoubtedly his biggest success as a coach came with Amélie. She won 2 slams and was number 1 player in the word under Loïc's guidance.

He said she should play more aggressive and control the game. Do not let Nastya overtake the game. Sveta was also complaing about the sun (she missed many balls playing against the sun) and wind. As for the sun he said: just move to other place so the sun will not blind you. You're movement on the court is ok. Can't remeber what he said about the wind.

I also like about him the fact that he is positive and he tries to influence Sveta with this positive thinkig. And one more thing, he is not putting tyrades about the tactics and zillion of things like some of the coaches but he is saying general advices (and not too many coz we all know how little player can remember from that). so no more Loic, very short cooperation and not outstanding results together.

Let's hope Sveta finds someone soon, but I fear it's going to be a difficult thing. Please, post here if you have any news.

Meanwhile let's not forget that Sveta won San Diego last summer without a coach,so let's not panick...at least just yet.

Watching the night USO match against Kirilenko, I thought Sveta was playing great tennis. Then she lost to Cibulkova

Sveta has to be focused and ready to fight in big matches.
A coach cant help her do that. She has to want that match when she is playing it.

It's a pity that things didn't work out with Loic, I guess I was just hoping for a miracle partnership that would make Sveta win tournament after tournament. But, like in the past (eg. with Morozova) the pair didn't seem to be on the same wavelength - and that's an important value to have. I think sometimes it has to be like a marriage...if you can see that things aren't going to work out long-term it's always best to end it early before things get too messy. And to hear that he wasn't willing to travel to Moscow in the off-season.....argh, the man is nuts! Honestly now. Just how deep is your love, Loic??!!!

But I often wonder how elite tennis players advertise for a new coach? Do they just nail a flyer to a tree or put an advertisement in the newspaper...?

"Wanted: Professional tennis coach for tattoo-luvin', dual Grand Slam champion. Great salary; see the world (valid passport required). Must be easy-going, possess an appreciation for fast cars, able to drink vodka (straight) and enjoy eating copious amounts of sushi. Must not be adverse to occasional HipHop and RnB music. Must, repeat, MUST love Russia. Does this sound like you? Call: 555-1234 and ask for Cвeтa."

Hmmmm. So the hunt continues.........I'm always available if she's interested

http://www.tennis-piter.ru/page1.php?id=359&raz=3&sec=14&rub=21
He was a coach of Lina and Sasha when they lived in Obninsk, and now he coaches in Saint-Petersburg.

And what about Sasha? He was with Sveta everywhere, almost on every tournament last two years. Sveta changed at least four coaches during this time, but Sasha always was with her. He was in Paris and Beijing last year, and in Stuttgart and San-Diego, there was not any coach with her in last two, but Sasha was, when Sveta was winning those tournaments.

I didn't see him in Tokio and Beijing this year. Will they continue their cooperation?

Well we only know by this interview some time ago that Sasha works gladly with Sveta,so if Sveta is happy with him I see no reason why their cooperation should not continue.Maybe he was in Tokyo and Beijing but we didn't see him,or maybe she was there only with the french team.

Sveta said in her last interview, that she wants to work with someone who knows a thing or two about the Spanish style of playing, playing with spin, cause she became to play with flat strokes in high tempo with Russian coaches, and then happened what we saw in the first half of this year. Then Amelie advised her to play with spin more, she did, and then had rather good US series.

So, her next coach probably would be Spanish or South American.

O, yes! Those strokes, seems to be too mighty and risk, when it looks they will go out, but they somehow turn into the court:drool: I think her opponents hate them;)

Well, lets see about announcement. Sometimes press is more fast. She said that she will back to the trainings in November.

Ticker - Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Svetlana Kuznetsova is working with a new coach, Carlos Cuadrado. The partnership began during the offseason.

Kuznetsova worked with Amelie Mauresmo's former coach Loic Courteau for a short period last year after trying unsuccessfully to convince Mauresmo to coach her.

Glad she broke up with Loic for sure.I read an article where they said apparently the french wanted a full month of vacation and Sveta to go to train with him to Paris.Glad Sveta said "niet".One of the keys why Sveta is looking much better this year must be that she worked really hard during off-season and started doing it so early.A longer break wouldn't have been good for her career. He was looking more for himself than for Sveta's career. And Cuadrado,Sveta said he can be available 90% of the time. This is good,I think.

Agree, he is young. 27 or something and was a pro so he knows what to do. I also guess that he knows the reality of modren tennis much more than the old coaches Sveta had before (no offense). He's the same generation as Sveta so he probably knows how to talk to her. I like his enthiusasm during the matches. He spreads positives vibes. And also Sveta is more positive all the time. She's not whining after loosing point like last year just clenching fist, screaming Vamos/Davai/Com'on and having eye contact with team & opponent. These are small things but I guess they work for Sveta much better.

Was reading an interview with Dinara and here's what she said about Larisa:

- You say that man is hard to understand women's tennis. A thought to work with a coach and a woman?

- And where to find it? For me, for example, a specialist with a capital "s" is Larisa Savchenko. I admire her, and herself, and her experiences. She had during training is very diverse exercises, and while I understand what they are directed. After Melbourne, I went for four days in Jurmala, where I trained under the guidance of Larissa. And even wrote my mother text messages that I want to cry with joy, I so liked working there. Problem one - Larissa can not always go with me to tournaments.

So from this I understand if Larisa is available, she and Sveta are no longer working together. It makes sense since now she has a full-time coach who can travel with her most of the time.

off topic: if you want to read full interview with Dinara, very interesting,it's on her forum. Here ;)

You're joking right? It was one of the best Sveta's comeback in months (or years now). She was able to play almost 5 hours against Schiavone while at USO against Wozniacki she had steam for only 1,5 set (that is around 1,5H). And what is more important she was winning against top class players... sheeh...

JANUARY - reached QF at Sydney (d. No.4 seed Stosur en route, falling to No.8 seed and eventual champion Li); reached 4r at Australian Open (as No.23 seed, d. No.11 seed Henin en route; l. to No.6 seed Schiavone 64 16 1614, having held 6mp - 3mp at 8-7 and 3mp at 9-8; at 4 hours, 44 minutes, was second-longest match in Open Era and longest Grand Slam match in Open Era).

FEBRUARY - Runner-up at Dubai (as No.16 seed, d. No.3 seed Schiavone, No.8 seed A.Radwanska and No.11 seed Pennetta en route to final; l. to top seed Wozniacki);

Bероника

Well a Sveta coached by Larisa was able to overcome Serena at RG QF two years ago, while Nastia coached by Carlos was unable to even take a set from Serena. And a Sveta coached by Carlos collected an humiliating result against Wozniacki some months ago in the Dubai final, while coached by Larisa at USO she make it very hard for the wall the get the victory.

Her results are more dependent on herself and her conditions of the moment (physical and mental) than of any coach.

And please don't remind me on that marathon match against Schiavone,it might have brought her more popularity and recognistion but imo it ruined her season: physically and mentally she's not been the same player after this match.

Here is his twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/AllistairMcCaw (https://twitter.com/#%21/AllistairMcCaw)
and his blog: http://mccawmethod.blogspot.com/

He has been working with Sveta all Kremlin Cup week and is now helping her prepare for Fed Cup final.

Some interesting quotes of his blog:

From Russia with love (http://mccawmethod.blogspot.com/2011/10/from-russia-with-love.html)

Hi there guys,

This week i'm in Moscow, Russia working with two time Grand Slam Champion Svetlana Kuznetsova. It was quite a change coming from Sunny Florida last week to the grey skies and single digit temperatures here (4deg).
I arrived at 6am at the main airport and went straight to the gym to get my morning workout before starting the day. I met Svetlana and her coach (Anastasia Myskina). Some of you might recognize the name, she is the 2004 French Open champion.
I've really enjoyed my first few days working with such a great player who not only works hard but has fun at the same time. An important mixture for success.
I see so much more potential in Svetlana and am excited to be working with her.
We've been mostly working on movement and footwork this week, but can't over do it too much as the WTA Kremlin cup tournament starts on Monday here at the Olympic Stadium.
Sunday at Kremlin Cup (http://mccawmethod.blogspot.com/2011/10/sunday-at-kremlin-cup.html)

Had the morning off, so had a late breakfast with Jack, coach of Alex Dolgopolov, then went to the gym to have a run.
Got a car at 11am to the site and warmed up Svetlana for her first practice with Vera Dushevina.
Included some fun stuff like soccer tricks and a basketball free throw contest!
Seeing that we only had 30 minutes between her first and second practice, we quickly had a light lunch and then went back to the court for some points with Aga Radwanska.
Tonight is the players party here, but i've decided to rather hit the local Starbucks and do some interneting and blogging! Monday at the Kremlin Cup (http://mccawmethod.blogspot.com/2011/10/monday-at-kremlin-cup.html)
Had an early 6.30am rise (European standards anyway) as i had to leave the hotel at 7.30am. Had breakfast with Svetlana's longtime coach and former player Larisa Sevchenko-Niland.

Got to the courts just before 8am where Svetlana was waiting for the warm up before her practice with fellow Russian Vera Zvonareva.
After that, we went straight to the gym to do some Prehab (tube, mini band, core) and recovery work (bike, swiss ball, stretching etc..).

Had some lunch and watched a few matches. So nothing exciting today, just another day at the office, which means a good day!

Sveta will have the afternoon off, needing some rest as she's been busy with a lot of extra off court things this week like tv interviews, sponsor events, player parties etc.. all part of being a professional player on tour and being at your 'home' tournament. Tuesday at the Kremlin Cup (http://mccawmethod.blogspot.com/2011/10/tuesday-at-kremlin-cup.html)

Today was Svetlana's first round match against France's Alize Cornet, a former top 20 player and who came through qualifications here. Its always tough to play someone who's come through 3 matches as they are used to the conditions.
We had a 12pm warm up which included some footwork drills and of course soccer skills, which Sveta loves. Her many years spent in Spain have developed her soccer skills for sure!

Her match was at 2.30pm, played well and won 6-3,6-3. Straight after the match Sveta, Larisa and I went to the practice courts to work on some things and then had some more movement drills.
Sveta was in good spirits and is now having a late lunch which includes plain pasta, chicken and fruit.
My day is done, so i will probably head back to the hotel gym and have a workout myself!

Until tomorrow! Thursday at the Kremlin Cup (http://mccawmethod.blogspot.com/2011/10/thursday-at-kremlin-cup.html)

Hey Guys,

Svetlana's match is scheduled last tonight after Janko Tipsarevic and Igor Kunitsyn on center court. I had the morning off, so had a late breakfast and went to the gym for a workout. The only player working out in there was Andreas Seppi.
Went to the courts at 3pm and was able to catch the match between Alex Dolgopolov and Jeremy Chardy. Unfortunately, Alex wasn't able to pull it through and got a pretty bad call at 5-4 in the tiebreak.
Had a warm up with Svetlana at 5.30 for her practice at 6pm. One thing i have noticed is that Svetlana's practices before a match are at a high intensity, but with good rest in between.
After every practice she gets a good stretch and cool down, the small things that so many players don't see as big factors in injury prevention and maintaining good mobility.
After practice she will have something light to eat and we will start with a warm up again for her match.
Gotta get going...work to be done!
Best, Weekend at Kremlin Cup (http://mccawmethod.blogspot.com/2011/10/weekend-at-kremlin-cup.html)

Last nights match was a tough one for Svetlana losing to Kanepi. It's been a busy week for her being home and having so many commitments (tv, sponsors, radio, press etc..). Having worked with a few others players, it's always a different stress for them playing at home. That's why when a player can win at 'home' it's a big achievement.

However, making no excuses, Kanepi's played extremely well and didn't miss much. In fact i have just come form the court after watching her semi final match against the very in-form Lucie Safarova.
Kanepi won it 6-3 in the 3rd set and will play the final against Cibulkova tomorrow.
What's also funny is that when your player has lost, your credential gets 'decoded' and you can't enter the restaurant or player lounge. I even had to ask Lucie for a ticket to her match and Jeremy Chardy for a ticket to his match against Troicki.
Yep, i'm a tennis nerd, so i'm gonna sign off blogging from Moscow, the tournament that is anyway.
Work with Svetlana resumes Monday with a big week's training ahead. She has The Fed Cup final against the Czech Republic next weekend and we all know that the Fed Cup in Russia is BIG! So it's not hard motivating a Russian player to get up for that!
Have a great weekend!

10/26/2011

Training week (http://mccawmethod.blogspot.com/2011/10/training-week.html)

It's a full out training week this week in Moscow with Svetlana.
After having the weekend to recover after the Kremlin Cup tournament last week, it has been back to the 'factory' with lots of drills on the court and lot's of strength and core work in the gym.
Today's session involved a lot of leg work, core exercises, dynamic flexibility and intervals on the cardio.
We spent around about 2.5 hours and finished off with a good stretch.
As you can see in the photo, Svetlana combines a good joke and fun in between the hard work!
Tomorrow morning back on court with Larisa, her coach and Roman, her hitting partner.

Until next time, Adios Amigo's

@scambers73: Following post by @SvetlanaK27 , I can reveal that she is now working again with Russian great Olga Morozova #tennis

I'm very happy that she is working with Morozova again. I believe that Olga really laid the foundation for her 2009 success and the match against Serena was just great tennis from Sveta. Hope that she can bring out Sveta's best in 2012.

Ok, I've made. Olga has some specific habit - she talks about something, then she repeats almost the same but in other words and sometimes do it more than twice. I suppose it is not a bad feature for a coach, but it makes a little bit difficult to translate. Anyway she seems to me the most talkative from the all Sveta's coaches. Which is good;)

- Olga Vasilievna, is it true that you became to work with Svetlana Kuznetsova again?
- Yes, it is true. At this moment we are in Dubai, and prepare for the Australian Open. We made the first stage of preparing in Moscow, so it's true. How it was happened? Sveta asked me to help her. For the first time I was surprised a little, but then we discussed all details, and I understood that Sveta is really need it. For me it was necessary to discuss that with my family. Finally, my family agreed, and we started to work.
- When did Svetlana ask for your help, and when did you start to work together?
- Sveta asked me during the Kremlin Cup, after she’s lost her match. I was in Moscow for an occasion, and I didn’t plan to be there before. I had some deals there. BTW, she called me to London sometimes, and we just talked not particularly about something. We always were in the good terms with Sveta. So, we discussed all details in Moscow, than I discussed with my family about it properly. As a result, we decided to help Sveta.
- Will you travel with Sveta during the season?
- We will see how it will go. Now we are preparing for the Australian Open. It is very important period when you make a basis to play the whole season for the same level. I think we should not hurry up. We just make some work, which will allow Sveta to perform in AO like she would like.
- Will you go to Australia?
- Yes, I will.
- How do trainings in Dubai go? Seems to be there are a lot of tennis stars…
-On the one court Svetlana Kuznetsova practices, on the other – Roger Federer, on the third – Caroline Wozniacki. Vika Azarenko will come soon. I was not in the rest tennis clubs. Julia Goerges, Ksenia Pervak and many others practice here. I think it’s reasonable. First, it’s not far from Australia. Second, here is a great weather. Third, tennis players receive great courts here. You can train twice a day, next to the sea, temperature is about 23-25 C°, so we have ideal circumstances for trainings.
- Seems to be you have a lot of fun?
- Roger just came here, but here is really in the great mood, because he won YEC. Wozniacki works with a new coach. Can’t say anything about others. Really, here’s a great atmosphere. You want to have fun, but we should work hard, so all fun will be after Australian Open.
- What will be you major purpose in the work with Sveta?
- Sveta is a mature player, she won 2 GS already. We all know what she is able to do and what she needs. It was talked about many times, and the most important that Sveta realizes all that. I think we are working on things that she needs most. We work on consistency, believe in herself, and on fitness. At the finish of season she had lack of those, so we must work on it, after that we will see a result. She already has her player style, she can do many things, so we must work out the way to coordinate these things right and bring her victories.
Sveta had many great and spectacular matches last year, so she doesn’t need to change a lot. She has everything to win. I’m not going to change completely everything, my task is to coordinate everything for making a result that we want.
- You were working with Sveta from September 2008 to March of 2009. Why did you split, because Sveta had a good period after, when she won French Open?
- We’ve started to work again now. Why should we look back? We are in the good terms. Sveta is a great professional, I try to be professional, and so we have good team cooperation. We had not disagreements, we did not quarrel with each other, and we always were in good terms. Now we don’t need at all to discuss what happened in the past. It won’t be useful at all.
- Who is in Sveta’s team besides yours?
- We have a great hitting partner, a fitness coach. Generally, everything is great – we have a team, courts, near there are sea and the weather is great.
- In this season Kuznetsova worked with Anastasia Myskina, Elena Likhovtseva and Larissa Savchenko. Will they continue to take part in her training?
- Nastya, Elena and Larissa Savchenko are coaches of the Russian National Team. We will have FedCup, Olympics, so they must help also. It is necessary to plan everything calm and right. We don’t need to create any fake intrigue around her. Sveta is ready to perform at the level of the best, and every people around her must do only the one thing – to help her to perform at her best.
- What do you personally want from this cooperation? What is your purpose?
- I want to help her to reach those purposes that she dreams about. You know, that a person who won two majors, hardly think about winning the tournament of $75 000. In that moment the main thing is to prepare for a future season and to receive some confidence.
Last year she didn’t reach those victories that she wished. Though, she was close. You can remember her match with Schiavone at Australian Open, with Wozniacki at US Open and some others. They was very close, and you cannot say that it was her fail. Her match with Caroline was one of the best of the tournament, and the one with Francesca became a part of history, it was written in the Guinness book.
So, now we should not force something for her that she can show her beautiful tennis, which she can show. Not just a beautiful, but tennis, where the last ball stayed on the opponent side always.
- In Melbourne supposed to be Kim Clijsters, Serena and Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova and the all new generation of top players. What do you wait from this tournament?
- [Olga says that they are all great players, I won’t translate this part in details]
Anyway it will be tough for Sveta. Before she always were seed and was in top-10, now she is lower, so she could meet a tough opponent since the 3d round. She would concentrate at her best from the first point. Sveta must be ready very good and play smarter then she did last years. She has a very difficult task. And the tournament supposed to be very interesting. And Australian Open always shows how everyone prepared to the season.

I just wanted to say - you are welcome! And you can ask me if I can help with something, cause Russian is my native language, and I have not much practice in English, but I really like both languages and it's interesting to translate people's thoughts from one language to other. I just need to know that someone is interested about the translation, and - it's the most important - understands what did I translate, cause I have not much communication in English, and sometimes it's hard to imagine is it understandable what I did write about without a feedback. So, don't be shy, ask if something is incomprehensible or sounds weird. I'll also try to not be shy so much, ok?

We appreciate a lot what you post,at least I do :) For me,it would take a lot of hours to translate a text from russian into english, specially when it's a long one.Because in my head I have to first translate it from russian to spanish and then from spanish to english and I don't speak much english these days except when I come to this forum or on twitter, therefore it gets harder to me to express in english.
And I can say your translations are very good imo.I understand them without problems what you write in english and they are good translation from the original russian texts.

an interview with Olga

Australian Open?

How to be a great coach

The Tennis Space
Saturday, 10 March 2012

Olga Morozova, a former French Open and Wimbledon finalist, who is now working with Svetlana Kuznetsova, tells you

Know when to be strong and when to stand back
You have to have knowledge of the game and then you have to have your own ideas of how the game is supposed to progress. But especially for a coach who was a good tennis player before, it’s very important to stand back a little. Tennis players are supposed to make his or her own decisions on the court. If the coach is too pushy or selfish or egoistic then it will not be the player’s decision, it will be the decision of the coach. Then when a player needs to make a decision on court at the important time, they won’t be able to do it. You have to be in the shadow of your player and you have to be very careful about making sure that everyone around will know that it’s his or her decision. That’s very important.

Don’t be afraid to learn from everyone and anyone
I’m lucky because my husband is a coach too and a combination of his knowledge and my knowledge works well. You cannot be afraid to ask and you cannot be afraid to learn from your player. Sometimes the good coaches learn from players, not from themselves. You still have to have a vision and feel for what they can do and what can happen, especially with your player.

Support your player in every way
It’s very, very important with the top players to give them the opportunity to feel that whatever happened on the court, you are with them. They have to understand and feel that whatever happens, you’re on their side and will do whatever’s necessary to make things work. You have to be 100 percent with them. You don’t have your life anymore, when you’re with them – you have to be there for them.

Be adaptable
Now, a tennis coach is not only about the tennis. You’re supposed to be a psychologist sometimes and sometimes you are supposed to be an expert in fitness. If a player didn’t sleep well or has a stomach upset, they would not produce certain things on the court so you have to know what to do and to give them a second plan for this situation.

Like the player you work with
We had a very, very good coach at figure skating and she was coaching one of the very craziest girls who was impossible to like. But she just said: ‘I love it’. She’s right because you have to love it. They have to have the feeling that you are together in everything.

Be organised
You have to be ready not five minutes before, not 10 minutes before, but for everything the person does. You not only have to plan for today, you have to plan for the whole year. Every day things can change. You’re supposed to have ideas all the time but if something doesn’t work, you have to find a second plan, something that will help.

Because I was the best in Russia at the time, it was easy to say do this, don’t do this, but it’s not exactly what you have to do when you’re a tennis coach. Sometimes I think (listening) is my problem. There is such pressure on tour that you have to give them the opportunity to say whatever worries them and then to have a nice answer or a patient answer. That can be a problem for me because sometimes I can immediately feel what’s happening or what she’s talking about and I answer immediately. Sometimes that’s not right because you have to wait and let them finish. I am learning. I am not afraid to learn. I’m still learning.

Kuznetsova Splits With Coach Morozova (http://en.ria.ru/sports/20120408/172686982.html)

Russian tennis star Svetlana Kuznetsova has announced a split from coach Olga Morozova to team up with Israeli former world No. 18 Amos Mansdorf.
Kuznetsova, the world No. 25, has had an on-off relationship with the legendary coach Morozova, rehiring her late last year after they parted company in 2009.
"I ... wanted to announce officially that we stopped working with Olga Morozova, but I can’t describe how much I appreciate her effort and positive energy as well as what she has given me," Kuznetsova said on her website.
Double grand slam winner Kuznetsova, 26, is a former world No. 2 but dropped out of the top 20 after a poor 2010.
Bidding to get back into the top 10, Kuznetsova said she had hooked up with Mansdorf, a former Australian Open quarterfinalist who reached No. 18 in the men's rankings in 1987.
"I started to work with Amos Mansdorf, big fans of tennis for sure [have] heard of him as he was a very good tennis player."
Mansdorf, who has coached compatriot Dudi Sela, among others, retired from the game in 1994 and has taken up various tennis posts in Tel Aviv including Israeli Davis Cup captain and chairman of the Israeli Tennis Center.
Kuznetsova also confirmed she would participate in Russia's Fed Cup semifinal against Serbia in Moscow on April 21-22.

I remember having seen Mansdorf as a player when I started following tennis and he was not a super good player, don't know how he'll do as a coach.Let's see...It's interesting how Sveta will fare with a man coach after working with female coachs in the past years (Larisa,Olga).Anyway,I think something new will do her good.As I notice,Sveta needs constant changes.

It's good that she is still motivated and wants to improve. We'll see how this partnership goes, no idea who the new coach is.

Yes Amos Mansdorf is coaching :)
I think he beat Sampras or at least gave him a huge fight. He also beat Courier and Edberg a few times so I hope this will be a good partnership.
If I remember correctly he used to come to the net a lot so maybe Sveta would too soon.
