What a horrible draw from Sam... should be an easy first round. Either Sharapova or Schiavone in the second (TERRIBLE) and then Zvonareva (can be difficult) the Safina (once again should be difficult)...

if she can get past sharapova shes in a good section of the draw... zvonareva is playing average and dinara had a shithouse US Open... sharapova will be very tough though, especially given that sam has never beaten her before..

A good test, I think it will be better for Sams motivation to be in a situation where she isn't completly considered a favourite. Take a bit of the pressure off.

I think Vera has been improving though, she was playing really well at the U.S Open...just has the mental issues again. Maria will always be tough.

I don't want top get ahead of myself because of Sam's current form, but there are some good matches that she can play herself into form here... Peng was injured last week so if she withdraws then she'd have a Q/LL, Morigami is always an outside chance to play really well and Date Krumm should put up a challenge...

Hoping for her to live up to her seeding though... a Sf against Wozniacki (hopefully) should be a good match...

I kind of agree, but then again with Sam: who knows? She was playing terribly right after the French Open, and then suddenly ran into some form again. Hopefully she's moved on from the match against Sharapova and will come out swinging this week. :)

I left at 6-0 4-6 2-2 after Sam had squandered points for 4-1 lead in the 2nd and just seemed to be hanging in there in the 3rd set. But Sam 2009 has a bit more grit than Sam pre-2008 so what a great effort. :)
