Great job girls! Serena kept her cool, Venus was serving beautifully. Black/Huber tried to take over the net but the Sisters found their way out of it. So many great net rallies, reflexes. It was a fun match! What an incredible point for Venus/Serena to get up 62 52! That one point was AMAZING.

3rd slam of the year! Closer and closer to #1!

MJF: "Serena has come out swinging and is timing the ball beautifully."

ZERO break points for Black/Huber. Love it. Good fight from Liezel/Cara but Venus/Serena were way too much, as expected.

NEVER IN DOUBT!!!! :worship: Nice to see them still walk away with another major even though they couldn't get it done in singles. So after all the controversy with the foot fault and tirade and Venus' knee troubles, they still walk away as Champions of the 2009 US Open in Ladies Doubles!!! :worship: I think Serena did a good job of channeling everything into the match. Venus was on point as well. Good job girls. Serena...this too shall pass.

Black/Huber 8500
Venus/Serena 6750

The YEC is worth 1500, meaning Venus/Serena can get to 8250 -- not enough to pass Black/Huber. This means they will need to play a Fall Event. OR! They can stall and defend Australia, and play Miami or Dubai, etc.

Play Beijing and get 1000 easy points!

If they win the YEC and don't finish the year as #1s, it will be a joke.

Not really. The sisters hardly ever play doubles outside of the slams. Stanford was the only time they played a non-slam tournament all year. It is very hard for the Williams sisters to compete with Black, Huber, Stubbs, Stossur, etc. for #1 when those other women play almost every week (and also consistantly make it to the final rounds at the majors).

I do hope, however, that somehow Venus and Serena could make it to #1 in doubles. They really are the team to beat, but they just don't play enough.

Well, no offense, but matchups or not, as a top doubles team they should be able to take more than 4 games off the sisters and at least be somehwat competitive. I know you are a Bluber fan, but every time I see them play against the sisters, they are just embarrassing.

They've only played the Sisters twice and both have been during this most recent winning streak they've accumalated. The Sisters have been winning slams and destroying quality opposition for a decade now, Cara and Liezel have nothing to be embarrased about with regards to that.

Do you even watch them in their other matches (the few times they're shown anyway)? I don't think it's fair because their two matches against the Sisters are probably the two biggest tv audiences they've had this year. But people don't see them destroying all the other teams day in day out, including teams that have beaten the Sisters. They simply are not used to their firepower. There's a reason why they're not only no.1 in the world, but have been there by such a large margin for the past three years.

Oh...we're small, they're big...please! Like that's the only reason the sisters won the match.

That the Sisters are stronger and better athletes and are more powerful is certainly one of the primary reasons they won, no? I don't think Liezel was saying that's the only reason they won though, but it's not a bad reason to win a match...

You say they ain't used to the firepower of the sisters, but the Russian team in the SF was hitting even harder than the sisters off the ground.

Funny...so you're basically saying that the Russian team would've beaten the Black-Huber team as well? They're bigger and stronger too..

In a Grand Slam final? Probably not. In the second round of Indian Wells? Kleybanova did beat them.

But there's obviously alot more too it than power. I don't think Liezel was suggesting that their power was the only reason they won. And something that goes hand in hand when someone says "they're stronger/powerful" is accuracy and consistency, something which the Sisters have alot more than Kleybanova/Makarova. So no, I'm not saying the Russian pair would beat Bluber because they're not good enough. .

Yet all we heard was they are big and powerful..nothing about: they hit accurately and had great consistency.

Alas...what can you do?

Part of the reason that the Williams Sisters do so well against Black/Huber is because they KNOW they have to step up. Bluber are the top ranked doubles team in the world and have been for the last three years. You're seeing a much higher level of play from Venus and Serena than what they display in the first round or two. If they carried that form through an entire tournament, they would barely be dropping any games.

And the shit that people give Liezel about her attitude is :o She's getting that excited because this is her livelihood. This is how she makes her living. Nobody gives Ivanovic or Safina or any other top singles player half as much grief.

It gets a LOT worse out there. Did anybody see the men's doubles final? Paes running around pumping his fist against his chest and screaming "This is my court" by the beginning of the second set...now THAT is pathetic.

If you get TTC they will re-air their version of it tonight at 10pm EDT or whenever the re-air of the Women's singles final finishes.

I don't think Venus and Serena look particularly challenged when playing Bluber.

I always thought Venus and Serena do so well against Black and Huber because they tee off on Cara Black's serve like John Daly on a 600-yard par-5.

It really is wishful thinking. I dont think you can possibly agree that Ana and Dinara dont get more sh*t than Huber?! Safina gets more than her fair share - and then some.

Well not in total cos there are many more threads about them in GM. But for the few threads about Liezel, for any little thing she does, yes, I'd say she gets it worse than them. Most people who comment on her only have negative things to say when they do. The ones who go on and on about her fist pumping and being a bitch but aren't even to be seen when threads are started about her extensive charity work. Ana and Dinara at least get their credit, even from some of their haters.

I never got why Liezel gets so much grief. Very impressed by her charity work, everyone fist pumps (my fave is Serena so I have no room to talk)

They weren't. I never said that was the case. What I am saying is that the final was their best tennis throughout the entire doubles event. Black/Huber aren't getting them in the first round or two, when they are at their most vulnerable. For people to say they are a mediocre team or that Liezel is an advanced club player is absurd. NOBODY would beat V and S when they are playing like that.

If Liezel is an advanced club player, what exactly does that say about the other doubles teams (which include top flight singles players) that they have a dominant H2H against?

I'm sorry, but I don't agree that V&S played their absolute best and that nobody else would beat or challenge them playing like this...

I don't know what it says about the other teams... nothing good certainly. :o

On a hardcourt, the only team that can legitimately compete with them when they are playing well is Stosur/Stubbs. Of course, if they are playing poorly, other teams can compete.

On a clay court, several other teams can compete.

she's kind of eccentric in the way she talks and her appearance and all those superficial things that people judge. I think it makes her an easy target really. Otherwise i see no reason to legitimately hate her.

Congrats, Serena/Venus!:D:bounce:

That they beat world #1 team so clearly says A LOT.:worship:

Serena/Venus are without any doubt the best doubles team ever.:yeah:
Other excellent doubles players are Martina Hingis, Anna Kournikova, Paola Suarez and Lindsay Davenport.
