Wasn't that bad a match in all honesty, bit of an errorfest on both sides and some choking here and there, but there were a few decent points and shots from both players. I still don't like Wozniacki though, something about her just irks me. There's obviously some mental issues on closing out for Kim still, hitting a couple of those balls out, shots that she knows she can hit, and hit them well. But she did it anyway!

You gotta hand it to Caro for reaching a GS Final, and definite congratulations Kim on winning a second Grand Slam :D What a wonderful return she's had! Unfortunately she proved the tour was a joke, but she's now a top player again and that's for sure!

Kim :worship: :bounce:

When she retired in 2007, her legacy seemed incomplete - just one grand slam title didn’t feel right. Thank god she can now call herself a double grand slam champion and you never know how many more are to come. What a great ending to a staggering comeback (pisses all over any other sort of comeback this year, if not ever! :p)

Caroline  Played a good first set and had me worried for a while  I’m not sure if she’ll ever have a better chance to win a GS than tonight, what with Kim playing below average, but who knows.

I cannot believe Caro can be THAT aggresive in 1st set, almost win 1st set but choked - 2BP 4-2* 40-15, 5*-4 30-15, Kim too good.

:worship: So pumped for Kim, can't believe she actually won. Played some GREAT tennis this two weeks. A bit shaky tonight, but understandable.

Caro played a really good match, especially the first set. Upped her aggression and was really patient as well. Very nice showing from her in her first Slam Final, way better than some others.

I thought the match was REALLY good though, not sure why it was so bad for some of you. Kim had a positive ratio and Caro had more winners than usual. :p Lots of long rallies, and some CRAZY ones too - lots of lobs, net points, yoyo-ing back and forth...best slam final of the year.

Congratulations to Kim on marking her amazing return to the tour with her second Grand Slam title :worship: Truly remarkable and definitely one of the greatest stories in tennis history.

Wozniacki did her bit in creating a pretty competitive final, and she should be commended for that. I must say, I was highly impressed with the poise she displayed tonight - for her very first Slam final, I thought she handled the occasion extremely well. Unfortunately for her, Clijsters managed to maintain the winner/error differential necessary to get the victory.

As for Kim, well, it wasn't a scintillating performance by any means, but in the key moments her forehand held up. That shot won it for her tonight (her backhand was surprisingly erratic, especially cross-court), along with a clutch of strong serves. I did fear for her slightly at *2-4 (15-40) in the opening set, as she appeared to be getting rather impatient and frustrated with her sporadic play, but once she rescued that service game she knuckled down and never looked back (bar the blip in the next service game, of course).

Fantastic scenes in New York.

Kim, I am so happy for you, and your comeback is amazing. I am so glad no one can call you a One Slam wonder anymore, even though you never were a One Slam wonder. You had an amazing first career.

Caro does do a lot of pushing, and she does need to improve her volleys and be more offensive. However, y'all, let's just admit that she does one excellent weapon which several top players are lacking: mental strength. How many times have we seen people with much better shot-making abilities than Caro have tragic mental breakdowns? I have to give her props for that.

Congratulations to Kim Clijsters on winning the 2009 U.S. Open her second grand slam singles title. :tennis: :) She got through a tough draw and richly deserves the title. And well done to Caroline Wozniacki on her first grand slam final. Caroline had a chance to take the first set and let it slip away and never recovered from losing a tough first set.

It's also special tennis history to see Kim Clijsters a mother win a grand slam singles title. :D That is a very rare feat. Seeing Kim on court with her daughter Jada was so nice to see.

On a side note the Wozniacki/Clijsters post match championship ceremony was a joy to watch and a joy to hear their thoughtful comments. :) It's nice to see players so appreciative of what they have and what tennis has given them.

Thanks for saving the WTA Tour Kim! Yes the finals had lots of errors from both sides and chokes but it was very entertaining. What a breath of fresh air not seeing two ladies pummeling the ball with no remorse and thought but into their strokes. Incredible defense and long exchanges, something we haven't seen since Serena took out Jankovic at last year's US Open.

Wozniacki should be very proud of herself. She held up well and played a great final, better than others have when they were put in this very situation for the very first time :tape:. I could definitely see her hoisting up the AO/USO trophy one day. She needs to work out that forehand and become more of a thinker on the court though if she wants to contend with the top spot and GS events yearly.

Clijsters will likely take the top spot away from Serena/Safina seeing as Serena only plays the Slams, and Safina can only manage to win a handful of Tour titles.

It is always great to see a well-mannered, terrific individual such as herself achieve feats such as this one.

She will go down in tennis history for this. And rightly so.

Watching her both enjoy playing tennis and raising a daughter is inspiring.

Also, congratulations to Caroline! A well-played first major final! It's hard to do it on the first try, so this was expected. But keep plugging away and tweaking your game and you WILL be the best of your generation. (Despite what I have said about her in the Vika-Caro debate).

Well done to both. A very entertaining final with two great women! :)

This is unbelievable! When I first saw the draw I thought to myself, "well, she could make the fourth round, and that's a pretty good result." But not only did she get past the fourth round, she beat both Venus and Serena (only player to do that twice in the same tournament) and now she ends up with her second US Open! Words can't describe how happy I am for Kim. and her daughter has the be the cutest kid in the world!

It really wasn't that bad of a match. Kim had 36 winners to 34 errors, and Caroline played really smart throughout. I really thought she was going to be gone after losing the first set, but she kept fighting. I've gained a lot of respect for her tonight.

But this is so unreal, if Kim was playing this just for more practice for 2010, just imagine what she still has left to bring! I'm so so so happy right now, I'm on the verge of tears :sobbing:

Inspiring comeback and a great finish to an extraordinary (in more than one way) slam. Impossible not to smile. :woohoo: And quite a good match too, certainly best GS final of this year, not that is means much :p
Clijsters deserves her place in history for winning a slam while being unranked. I agree with those who said she was as far as can be from a one-slam wonder (only Majoli, winning in her only time past the QF, deserves this tag in the last 20 years).

Well done Caro, so much more than a "pusher". So much poise and maturity. She was mighty close to win that first set on a couple of occasions. Who would've thought she'd hit double digits in BPs (and net points too, while we're at it)? I wouldn't like all the tour playing like her, but it's definitely good to have a young, charming top player that you actually have to beat and will not hand you the match, no matter what the stage is. :yeah:

So what? You're supposed to try walk out of there a winner. She was successful in doing that six times out of seven which is a wonderful achievement. You don't like the way she plays the game, and that is your right. But it doesn't take away from the fact that she played a great tournament. Caro  She's done better in her first final than our #1 has in all 3 of hers. Very gutsy performance, especially in the first set. :yeah:

Kim :bounce::yeah::hug::banana: Just fabulous - I had a tear in my eye at the end. Such a great story and so happy for Kim to get a 2nd GS title. She was too good a player to be tagged a One Slam Wonder.

Caroline - I'm not a fan of her tennis, but great effort from her in her first GS Final :yeah:Really nice girl, and handled the occasion very very well

Fairytale end to the USO. WD Kimmie. I love Caro but it woud have broken my heart if Kim hadn't won. And whem Kim was making those UEs in the 1st set to go 4-2 down and for all the world in the next game looked to be going down 5-2 - I couldn't bear to stay up in the small hours and watch any more. Went to bed but listened to it on the radio.

Jada out there had a new toy.

Kim was by far the best player at this tournament.
Toughest draw, best player.

Tells alot about where the tour is. A lot of players are close, and the level is not high.

Loved watching this match. Caro played well imo, and Kim hit crazy winners at the end of the match.

Congrats to Super mum. I thought that the tournament would be lame after Elena lost, but I'm so happy for Kim. And how good are those pics with Jada on the court?!

Also credit to Wozniacki, she made a match of it. People want to slam her for not hitting winners, but that's a load of shit. She deserved to be there more than other players who weren't able to keep the ball in enough to beat her.

Kim :worship: One of the greatest comebacks ever no question. She couldn't have been further away from a tennis court during the Australian Open and still ends up with one of the year's slams. This really is incredible. When she was last a fulltime elite player she couldn't get past the semis of slams and before that struggled so much in the finals, and now after over 2 years away from the tour in just her 3rd event back, she goes and equals what she did when she was at her best and wins another slam. A bizarre but lovely story for tennis. Hopefully she'll find herself back up at the top in no time.

This is so good for women's tennis and the best outcome of what was a very strange tournament this year. I'm so happy. Hopefully this will insipire others to come back too. This is one of those moments where someone actually proves nothing is impossible.

Clijsters will likely take the top spot away from Serena/Safina seeing as Serena only plays the Slams, and Safina can only manage to win a handful of Tour titles.

well placed words &

my biggest hope :yeah:

Glad Wozniacki didn't bend over, as she was trying to be aggressive and her DTL backhand working well, but the result was never in doubt.

Amazing result! It'll be fascinating to see how Kim Clijsters manages her career from here on. Reaching such a high point so soon was not on the schedule and now there will be unexpected demands and challenges. But good luck to Kim, she's such a classy performer.

Congratulations to Kim...you old sweetheart for her storybook ending or like she said in her acceptance speech "I just can't believe it" :) The tennis wasn't high calibre but the two contestants were...what a lovely creature Caroline is.:hearts:..a fresh smiling face to grace the courts and I too applaud her "smarts and mature" composure....what a treat to watch....these two gals saved the WTA bigtime with their wonderful wholesome display of good sportsmanship, complete respect for one another and for Caroline to speak in Dutch and Polish was classy...this kid is so endearing...I hope she continues rising in the ranks...we could stand 1/2 dozen more like her! Just a thrilling ending scene with Kim embracing her coach and family and her little girl is just the spit of her! Great moment for the U.S. Open! :worship::worship:

Probably one of the greatest comeback stories ever.
