Carillo during Djokovic/Federer confirmed it. She will not be suspended.

I agree with the decision.

I just wanted to post this. I haven't really added any input into this mess because it's just that -- a mess. I'm extremely disappointed on many counts: Serena losing in a slam semifinal, Serena being called for a foot fault that wasn't a foot fault, Serena losing her self-control and SIGH, no 12 slams.

This is going to get very technical but it really helps to put things into context. The rules do not call for a suspension. Serena Williams was assessed a point penalty which happened to be on match point. You can be suspended if you are defaulted/thrown out of a tournament -- neither of which happened to Serena Williams.

Remember when Rodionova got defaulted for hitting a ball at a fan two years ago? She was not suspended.

Of course this is semantics but Serena Williams should not be suspended. Remember in 2004, Serena Williams was screwed out of a real opportunity to play in a fair tennis quarterfinal match and advance further. In 2009, the same thing happened.

Two things will likely happen in the future: (1) foot faults will be able to be challenged by Hawkeye and (2) the rules will be changed and be more specific/strict for player misconduct.

In summary: because Serena was only assessed a point penalty, she can be fined but not suspended. Period.

Good.

I didn't see the match and only just have managed to see all the videos and stuff from the incident. To me it all seems a bit blown up (an investigation? :o).

Serena should not have spoken to the line judge like that and deserved the point penalty for her behaviour. It didn't actually look like a foot fault from the tv angle so a reaction was understandable, she just went too far with it (although again, 2 points from losing & past US Open history -- many would've done the same). I felt bad for her at the end of it. Horrible way to go out and horrible for Kim, the fans and the tournament too.

It would have been outrageous to disqualify her from the doubles final. I'm rooting for their opponents but I hope Serena gets some warm crowd support for the final.

Please, they are going to boo her but at least she will not be out there alone. Venus will be there to give moral support.

Me too and not for the normal reasons. How will the crowd react to her, how will she deal with it and any impact it will have on the match.:(

That's because the crowds that attend the doubles matches tend to be more working class people. People who can relate to the WS story and aren't elitist who hold their backgrounds and humble beginnings against them. These people also probably enjoy the rebel component of V&S. :)

As cruel as that sounds, my own experience has found this to be true. The people who attends the doubles matches genuinely like Venus and Serena and appreciate them. The people who can afford the close seats on Ashe, well ..., yeah.

I am trying not to be disrespectful in saying this...but how the hell is Bluber the #1 ranked doubles team since Nov 2007? Venus and Serena are mowing them over.

Just shows how great S&V are. The part time doubles players, whooping the full time doubles players.

It could be because they play a lot and go far in tournaments and slams.

Because they play a lot and they are one of the few stable teams in women;s doubles these days. So many teams break up and so many have been decimated by injury. Bluber are very consistent (oh how I hate that phrase :tape:) and they do win tour titles. They also have good records against many of the other teams. V&S are just a different level of team than what Bluber face on a regular basis. :D :worship:

It's actually since July 07 that they took over the top 2 spots. ;) :worship:
