View Full Version : Matt Cronin pretty bad at picking winners

Has anyone else noticed that Matt Cronin historically is pretty bad at picking winners? He thought both Venus and Serena were going to beat Clijsters. He also picked Nadal to beat Del Potro, which Potro pretty well crushed Nadal. His mistakes don't seem limited to this tournament either. I seriously can't remember the last time where he ever thought one the Williams sisters was going to lose even in cases where they ultimately were schooled by their opponents.

It is fun to see what other people's picks are, but based on my observations I find it dubious to call him an "expert" when it comes to predicting match outcomes. I am not a gambling type, but if I were I wouldn't follow his picks to the letter.

Well he may have been right but Venus was hampered by her knee and Serena literally self destructed lol! how cud u predict that. But i thought Kim was goin to take the match anyway to bad well never know, she seems more mentally tough in her 1st GS in two years then the rest of her career

He continuously picked against Wickmayer among others, he just picks the higher ranked player.

Well, it's easy to be an expert in hindsight. If one is going to show that his picks are bad, one has to argue the case before the match is actually played. When you don't have your own predictions published, it's easy to come down on someone else's.

I'm not claiming to be an expert in hindsight. I am just observing a series of inaccurate picks.

I used to post on the old WTA forum and then registered an account way back in the early days of the site. I haven't had much interest in posting here. Tennis is interesting, but I am usually not the type to post a bunch on forums.

BTW, if you didn't notice, I was bashing Cronin NOT the WS. If you want to argue over the Williams sisters there are plenty of threads to post on without hijacking the topic of this thread.

Wasn't referring so much to you, but there seems to be a tendency to slight the experts for their picks when in fact it's a hugely difficult task. None of those wrong picks you cited from Cronin were particularly unsound.

Of course not, he picks very conservatively the better ranked player. Only exception I saw was Oudin.
