Kim would be the first player to win a Major tournament with a wild card since Goran won Wimbledn back in 2001 when he took out Roddick, Rusedski, Safin, Henman and Rafter all in a row.

Kim is set to do something similar after taking out both Venus and Serena Williams, the Wimbledon finalists and possibly an up and coming player in Caroline Wozniacki. Plus Kim is set to be the first mother to win a Major since Yvonne Goolagong won Wimbledon in 1980.

And you can also consider that if Kim wins, you could say indirectly that she has defended her 2005 title as she was not able to play in 2006 and then retired.

Just one other point, despite Kim been out through retirement for two years, she is one of the best players in the world and was regularly making slam finals and semifinals previously against top level opponents.

Also, I don't remember in 2001 that the ATP was considered weak because Goran won Wimbledon, that was never even considered - so I think Clijsters potential achievement actually strenghtens the womens game.

You should probably change that to "first WC player" or it sounds a little odd! ;)
