Oh yeah, this is where I say : go Lisa and Rennae! :D I mean with this being a cheering thread and all...

BTW, I am not sure if Lisa will have to play qualifying here, it would not really be all that bad if she did, she can probably make some points and get some match practice after a few weeks rest. I am hoping she doesn't have to qualify for Zurich though, since if they do well in dubs here, she'd miss the qualifying for Zurich.

Anyone going to Filderstadt? ;)

Kuilli
Sep 18th, 2002, 08:13 PM
You think that Lisa will actually play qualifying if she doesn't get into the main draw? When was the last time she played qualifying?

Hey, where is the English version of your Arantxa site, Bea?? :p

Gallofa
Sep 18th, 2002, 09:33 PM
Not sure if she would, but personally, I think she should. She's not 'too good' for qualifying, is she? and if she feels qualifying is beneath her, she's just being silly. She really should start a season one year with the WTA champs in mind - it would be good to see her in one of those events once in her career. If Silvia Farina can make it to the LA champs, so can Lisa.

And nope, that's the whole point, Külli! it's Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario sólo en Espańol! I am doing it for the Arantxa fans of the world.... learn Spanish! it'll be an added value for their cv... just like Karen learnt Australian because of Rennae ;) :p

Kuilli
Sep 18th, 2002, 11:01 PM
Yep, I would rather see her playing the qualifying than getting a wild card into the main draw (I think she got a wild card last year). And no way she is 'too good' for qualifying, or at least I hope she doesn't think that. ;) Hehehe...it would be awesome to see her make the year end champs, say next year. :)

it's Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario sólo en Espańol! I am doing it for the Arantxa fans of the world.... learn Spanish!
Pfffff...hey, can we start with a little simpler Spanish lesson? ;) All that Spanish on the Arantxa's site is making my head spin. :p

lol @ 'Karen learnt Australian'

G'day

Actually, I think the thing with qualifying is whether it's done fair. You have to look at the people who have been given W/Cards. Like at Eastbourne this year, was it right to give W/Cards to Anna K and Martina N and then expect someone like Lisa to play the qualifying rounds. Perhaps if Anna K had been made to play more qualifying rounds it would improve her game, but at the end of the day it's all about putting bums on seats isn't it.

Kuilli
Sep 19th, 2002, 10:54 AM
Yeah, but you know Karen that's never gonna change. :( It's all about money, and Lisa doesn't sell tickets. So, of course they would give Anna K and Martina N wildcards over Lisa. That's just how it is, and it's not worth the effort to whine about. ;) But, as far as Eastbourne goes, there was no question about Lisa not playing qualifying. That would have been just way too many matches for her right before the Wimbledon. Filderstadt is a different story. Like Bea said, they have few weeks off, so if Lisa doesn't get into the main draw, it's probably a good idea for her to play some qualifying matches. But for Zurich, it would be nice if she got into the main draw. :)

stubbsy71
Sep 19th, 2002, 01:43 PM
Well I'm just saying I wouldn't blame Lisa if she doesn't play qualifying cos sometimes isn't done fair.

Where is my little cupcake anyway, heading back to England and into my arms no doubt!!

Kuilli
Sep 19th, 2002, 06:42 PM
I know, Karen. I wouldn't blame her either, just that sometimes playing qualifying might be actually beneficial for her. :) But, either way, I hope they'll have a great tourney in here! :D

What, you lost your little cupcake? ;) Last I heard of her, she was translating Arantxa's site into English. ;) Yeah, I know I'm dreaming, so I better start learning Spanish. :)

Gallofa
Sep 19th, 2002, 07:39 PM
I am in the UK already, and hey!!! it's NOT raining (yet anyway! ;))... with no real internet access until at least the end of next week... in any case Filderstadt qualifying ;) is weeks from now! :D

I don't know about the qualifying, it's possible that some people will withdraw and she'll get direct entry into the main draw, so we can only wait and see!

stubbsy71
Sep 19th, 2002, 11:47 PM
You know I don't like Arantxa, so please no publicity on this thread, I will delete this thread if I see any of this mumbo jumbo about the crap spanish one again!!!!

Gallofa
Sep 21st, 2002, 11:11 PM
Booo!

Karen is a dictator!!! :( :D - ok, Arantxa won't be mentioned any more! ;)

Poll of the day: what is more likely to happen (considering their latest results)

a) they'll lose on the first round to a team formed by... let's say Kournikova/Navratilova ;)
b) Lisa won't play the singles, as either Navratilova, Kournikova or a german 15 year old girl will take the last WC.
c) Rennae will be named Australian Fed Cup captain and quit tennis, Lisa will immediatedly change her nationality so that Rennae can put her in the Australian Olympic team for Athens 2004.

:p

Kuilli
Sep 22nd, 2002, 06:09 PM
Pfffff....that's a tough one! :p ;)

Ok, I'll go for a).

Although my personal favorite is c).....that would be kind of cool! ;) Sorry Karen, not that I want Rennae to retire, but we all know that's the only way Lisa will get to the Olympics. :p

stubbsy71
Sep 23rd, 2002, 07:52 PM
How about Rennae and Lisa reach the semi-finals or even go onto win it......... now that would be nice :)

Rennae will be Fed Cup boss one day........ just wait and see!

Kuilli
Sep 24th, 2002, 12:28 AM
Ok, joking aside, if Rennae wants to be a fed cup captain some day, I am sure she will be, and she will probably be pretty good at it. :)

So, the girls are going for title #9! There have been some interesting double draws/teams lately, so I'm pretty curious to see how this one is going to turn out. ;)

Hi guys, finally a cheering thread for the girls. I hope they enjoyed their break ;)

I was in Leipzig and had my fun there with Meghann Shaughnessy, Rita Grande and ...ehm well I won't bore you:p

I was in F'stadt the past 5 years (from 97-01) but this year I HAVE to boykott this event. If you don't drive a Mercedes, BMW or a Porsche then they thread you threre like shit. They can go to the hell - sorry! :o
Instead I'm going to Linz, which is much nicer. I know I won't see the girls there. They play F'stadt, Zurich and Luxembourg. Yeah pick on me now! But Linz is more fan-friendly.

But sure I hope Lisa and Rennae are doing well in F'stadt. I think they don't need me there :(
So lets cheer here.

BEST OF LUCK, defend the doubles title Lisa - this time with Rennae!

Why do you think so? don't you think they appreciate the support?

Anyway, it's looking good for direct entry into the draw for Lisa... being ranked in the top25 and not getting in would almost be unheard of... of course others, such as Arantxa or Conchita get in the draw before she does and they are ranked below Lisa, but still...

I can chat anytime on Sunday evening, I wil be in Spain, so that's 1 hour difference with you Karen (same as BB I think).

Poutchek vs. Weingärtner
???? vs. Grande(7)

Benesova vs. Wartusch

Ad. Serra-Zanetti vs. Husarova(8)

That will be not easy guys :o

Good luck Lisa, you'll need it!;)

marsha
Oct 5th, 2002, 01:48 PM
Well, at least the debate about whether or not Lisa feels she is "too good" to play qualies is over -- I knew it all along though -- Lisa is extremely humble (maybe even too humble for her own good, but you gotta love that about her....)

Anyway, maybe Lisa will be inspired by the fact that "the other Gator Gal" [Jill craybas] just made the finals in Tokyo. May some of that good Gator vibe rub off on Lisa! :)

BB
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:32 PM
Lisa did well and reached the 2nd round of quali with a straight set 6/2 6/3 defead over Chladkova

Kuilli
Oct 5th, 2002, 06:21 PM
Thanks for the result, Kerstin!! Looks like an easy win for Lisa!! :D Two more matches, and she is in the main draw. ;)

Let's go girls! :)

Kuilli
Oct 5th, 2002, 06:34 PM
Btw, Janette Husarova is in Lisa's qualifying section, but Janette is supposed to play dubs final in Moscow tomorrow. So, I would think she'll withdraw from qualifying. Hopefully, that will make it little easier for Lisa to get into the main draw. I guess we'll see... :)

BB
Oct 5th, 2002, 07:00 PM
Oh yeah Kuilli you're right. But I think 2 more matches would be good for Lisa to find her rhyrhm but Husarova plays quite well lately, so it's better not to meet her! ;)

Kuilli
Oct 5th, 2002, 07:07 PM
Yeah, but if she does withdraw, they'll replace her in the draw. So, one way or another, Lisa still has to win two more matches two get into the main draw. ;)

BB
Oct 5th, 2002, 07:10 PM
Yeah she should do something for all the money :p

You don't think we need Lisa's permission to spend her prize money now, or do you? ;)

BB
Oct 5th, 2002, 07:33 PM
no she wouldn't care I mean LMAO! She will be too busy in F'stadt to drive the free Porsche!

Kuilli
Oct 5th, 2002, 07:52 PM
Did you see BK4ever posted a little different qualifying draw from Michael Blue's site? I don't like that draw at all! :(

Here is Lisa's section:
Raymond (2) vs. Chladkova
Mikaelian vs. Wartusch
Tu vs. Roesch
Ad. Serra-Zanetti vs. Husarova (7)

I hope that's not the correct draw. If it is, Lisa will probably have to play Mikaelian next. That's not so good! :( Plus, I still think Husarova will withdraw. We'll see...

BB
Oct 5th, 2002, 07:55 PM
Yeah I already saw it. But I won't think about till I know it 100%. I could sms my friends in F'stadt. But I don't think they know much about the changes the tourney director made. So well, we better wait. Surely, I get the result of Lisa's match tomorrow!
But indeed MGM is a hard opponent.

Kuilli
Oct 5th, 2002, 07:59 PM
Yeah, I think that's probably the old qualifying draw. I would think Matthias got the correct one from the tournament.

So, here is Lisa's section again:
Raymond(2) vs. Chladkova
Benesova vs. Wartusch
Tu vs. Rösch
Ad. Serra-Zanetti vs. Husarova(8)

I like that a lot better! :)

BB
Oct 5th, 2002, 08:07 PM
Matthias got a fax from the t-office, so lets hope this is the right one. But my friends told me they changed the draw during the day.

BB
Oct 5th, 2002, 08:10 PM
check this http://193.155.96.61/porsche-tennis/en/qualifikation.htm

BB
Oct 5th, 2002, 08:11 PM
so Lisa will face Benesova now, MGM and Husarova are not in the draw. Looks good ;)

Kuilli
Oct 5th, 2002, 08:11 PM
Yep, just saw it, Kerstin! :)

So, one more try on Lisa's section. Looks like Janette did pull out. She was replaced with Vanessa Henke.

Raymond(2) vs. Chladkova
Benesova vs. Wartusch
Tu vs. Rösch
Ad. Serra-Zanetti vs. Henke

Benesova beat Wartusch, so Lisa will play Benesova next. Good luck! :)

Kuilli
Oct 5th, 2002, 08:12 PM
pffff.... you beat me to it! :)

BB
Oct 5th, 2002, 08:13 PM

Kuilli
Oct 5th, 2002, 08:38 PM
Now that we got the draw figured out, back to the prize money. Lisa got $645 for her first round win. I think we definitely need her to win few more rounds. That $645 won't last too long! ;)

You think Bea and Karen are actually enjoying their Saturday and ignoring the board? ;)

Anyways, it's time for some lunch! Later, Kerstin! :wavey:

BB

Hey! well done in the qualifying Lisa! :D - let's hope she can make it to the main draw!!

I knew it all along marsha too ;) - that's what my original post was about, I simply assumed that if she didn't make it to the main draw she would simply play the qualifying, and I have to say I am glad she's playing, she's defending no points here, so even those few of the qualifying (4 + 7.75 so far + bonus points) are great! :)

About the doubles draw, it is weird that they are not playing together, but I guess maybe Lisa promised Linds that if they won, they'd play again this year? in any case I am happy with whoever wins that first round match in dubs :) :p (not mentioning the name of one of the greatest ever either :p)

pffff...#1 seeds are playing last year's winners in dubs. :( Oh well, Lisa and Lindsay better get through that first round. I hope everything is ok with Rennae, or at least will be. Take care!

OMG  Lisa in the 3rd:

4/1 5/2 5/5 6/6 Tiebreaker 5/0 7/1

HELP! But she won and made the main draw :D

Congrats I hope she doesn't gets Meghann now! (and not Rita if possible!)

This was a good win for Lisa, IMHO -- I did see Angelika play -- twice, in fact, this summer -- once against Jill in the Montreal qualies -- I thought she was very VERY good! Hard court seemed to be her favorite surface (and here in Filderstadt it is greenset, not carpet, so I would expect her to be good. [contrarily, I saw Henke at AI and she was awful!]

ANYWAY, congrats to Lisa and go far in the main draw there, lil Gator! :)

Karen, what you are telling "us" later -- is it about Stubbsie? Is she hurt? I kept hearing all summer that she was, that she might not play the Open, etc etc. If you (or Bea or Kuilli) would rather e-mail me than post here in this [now very long] thread, my addy is: cmstrong@mindspring.com -- thanks! :)

Stubbsy didn't played the Open? US Open? I thougth she was there ;)

marsha
Oct 7th, 2002, 04:34 PM
No she *did* play there -- I just kept hearing that she was hurt and that she wasn't *going* to play there -- that's why I was wondering if she is hurt now...

I think this is the first time one of our threads has made it to 100 posts. And not exactly because of the number of posters ;) :p

And that's 100 quality posts!!! :p

Thanks for the scores, Kerstin! :) Wow, Lisa's match went to third set tiebreak. Glad she pulled out that win. I think she got the best qualifier spot there was in the main draw, she is playing Myriam Casanova. Go Lisa!!! :D

BB
Oct 7th, 2002, 06:49 PM
Yeah Casanova???? Cool, but she is dangerous too, and a 3 setter against Roesch isn't great

Kuilli
Oct 7th, 2002, 07:00 PM
Yeah, Casanova is dangerous, but out of Meghann, Iva, Rita, Stevenson and Casanova, I think Lisa got the best deal. :) She better not prove me wrong. ;)

Yeah she better does what you say;) But well you're right this was the best draw she could get. Better not Megh and Rita :o

Lisa and Lindsay are playing their dubs match tomorrow, 4th match on court one. It should be a good match. Good luck, girls! :)

marsha
Oct 8th, 2002, 04:59 PM
Yeah, Kuilli, except did you look at who they play against? Daniela Hantuchova and [her partner, the great one!**] So how does that happen that the two best teams (IMHO) get pitted against each other in the very first round? Aren't Lisa & Lindsay the defending CHAMPIONS?? Something is not kosher here! *LOL*

[** I understand that if certain names are mentioned here, the thread originator will banish us away like dust! :) But Bea, Kuilli -- don't you think we should put some effort into helping Karen to see the error of her ways? People who like Lisa and Stubbsie should *automatically* be fans of "the great one" as well, since there are a *lot* of similarities here, don't you think? All three are such really nice and sweet and you-gotta-love-'em people! Karen, see the light! *ROFL*]

Sonja
Oct 8th, 2002, 05:09 PM
WOW - Lisa & Lindsay ran away with it 6/1, 6/0

marsha, do you think Arantxa was tired? Or were the L women that good? :p Seriously, I didn't expect the scoreline to look like that.

marsha
Oct 8th, 2002, 05:37 PM
Sonja, I think one of three things happened and you mentioned two of them above. The third possibility is a tank job by Daniela (I've seen that happen before, at the US Open).

I *hope* it was that L'n'L played so terrific there was no stopping them and that they will win all the rest of their matches this easily and zoom right through to the title! :)

Wow!!! Congrats to L women (*stealing Sonja's line*;))!!! :D :D

That's a really surprising score. I was more than certain that match will go to three sets...I guess I couldn't have been more wrong.

Marsha, I'm scared of Karen, so I'll just sit here in my hideout and watch you guys trying to show Karen the error of her ways. :p ;)

Lisa vs. Casanova is the second match on court 3 tomorrow. Go Lisa!!! :)

Pam I'm afraid to tell you I'm in love with a bunch of girls I met at Wimbledon, one called Taff was my favourite, she was so sweet with her Lassie hair cut and 1963 shades :)

Pamela Shriver
Oct 10th, 2002, 12:12 AM
1963 shades!?!? I tell you what, she may be stuck in a time warp when it comes to supporting players (ME) but don't knock the sunglasses!

They're from 1964. :p

stubbsy71
Oct 10th, 2002, 12:18 AM
I wasn't knocking anything Pam, I thought she looked really cool and sexy. It's the sort of thing you'd want her to wear in bed with nothing else!!!

Pamela Shriver
Oct 10th, 2002, 12:22 AM
She's my #1 fan y'know Karen.

Oh and I thought you only had eyes for Ren? :p

stubbsy71
Oct 10th, 2002, 12:26 AM
Yes, but I wouldn't be able to play hunt the giraffe in the grass with Ren, only Taff could provide that entertainment. I've heard there's quite a bushy area to cover!

Pamela Shriver
Oct 10th, 2002, 12:31 AM

I really don't know. I am not in a position to ask Rennae either. I would like to give Rennae time and space at the moment. I hope you all can understand that.

No problem, Karen. Don't worry about it!
