View Full Version : Just to clarify: They do NOT have a camera angle on the baseline anymore

I know there has been a lot of debate and discussion about this, and a lot of dumb conspiracy theories that CBS/ESPN/US Open refuse to show it because they wanted to sabotage Serena. That is dumb.

The truth is that they just don't have a clear view on that line anymore. CBS used to in the days of the "Mac Cam" but since the arrival of ShotSpot, they haven't needed a camera view right on the baseline like that. If they did have it, they would have showed it. For sure.

Correction: They don't want the baseline cam to contradict hawkeye. So they removed it. Would be unseemly to have a 300 dollar piece of equipment upstage state of the art technology.

True, Hawk-Eye was often criticized for being unreliable in the beginning, and closer examinations supposedly showed it produces incorrect results. No sure, if the system got better over time.
