There were many other losses to Serena, but I don't believe any of them were particularly damaging as those weren't matches Vaidisova was supposed to win anyway. The player who inflicted Vaidisova the most painful setbacks from a career POV was Kuznetsova. It wasn't just RG 06. IW 07 and Sydney 08 were matches Vaidisova could well have won. Instead those became just further entries into the lengty list of tight matches she lost to top players. Venus was never a moodbreaker at all during the most important part of justine´s career. Anyway, I pretty much view any players who have denied my favs success as a thorn, therefore I must add Masha to the list...that 04 Wimbledon...Serena's career would look EVEN more stellar had she won there, doing the three in a row which had proved impossible since steffi did it... Reagrdless, from a mere outsider looking in, Venus and Mauresmo have denied Justine more than any other players in my estimation... Olórin Sep 12th, 2009, 10:34 PM Neither i nor justine would consider venus a thorn after justine became a champion. :) Henin didn't become a champion for many years because of Venus. Lost the AO semi to her Lost Wimbledon semi to her Lost her first Grand Slam Final to her Oh no, not a problem, Justine was biding her time. And you say MAYBE Mauresmo, they're 0-2 in Slam Finals. That's like having an entire rose bush in your side. I nearly missed that you've now appointed yourself Justine's official spokesperson. Lovely  DragonFlame Sep 12th, 2009, 10:42 PM That is her perogative I guess...weird though, probably because she thought she could really win that match...Mauresmo was just better on the day. Well to be honest, i don´t think serena should consider anyone a thorn as well. Noone has really stopped her from cashing in and performing over the years consistently well. She's competed with the best and overcame them or either went down to the best playing their best.(just like justine) I´m saying this with this concept in mind: All athletes go through a 10-year plan, starting out as a child to go through different fases to be succesfull. At the end of that plan it's crunch time. It's the time to perform and show your best capable form. When you have huge champions like serena and justine who can win pretty much everywhere, against anyone, on any given day, and consistently do so racking up slams and titles, i can't consider anyone their thorn. They are the highest achievers. That's why, in justine's case, i'd consider mauresmo the only thorn because in 'crunch-time' she failed to perform at the only slam she hadn't won.
