I don't think Rio has the colours right. Madrid looks like a youth olympics logo.

My favourite is Tokyo. I hope Rio wins the bid though.

I think the Rio's one is the most interesting and well-thought one of all of them... you can see the Sugar-Loaf shape representing the green mountains against the blue ocean and sunny side backdrop, something that really represents and presents the city... on top of that, the overall shape could both mean a pulsating heart or a butterfly, really neat! The Tokyo one is very clean and simple but elegant, like a Japanese origami, and is the second best one imo... Madrid's is really colourful and attractive, but there is not much of a thinking process behind the hand... Chicago's is just too lazy and simple...

chicago's looks the best even if it looks a little too winter olympics-y. The star looks like a snowflake. They should have doubled the star and rotated it over the original to get a 12 pointed star which would have looked more like the sun. Something looks strange with Madrid's. It looks like someone put a white circle in the middle of it for some reason and changed the opacity of that layer. Rio needs some red and Tokyo's is too busy.

is Rio realistically in the running with Brazil's massive crime problems?

They will be hosting the World Cup of course and even South Africa were permitted to host the World Cup, like JoBurg is crime city of the world. :help:

So crime doesn't seem a major issue for these international events

I don't really like any of them, but Chicago comes close. Madrid's reminds me too much of how a grade school student would draw a turkey for Thanksgiving.

Rio needs to add a little red and black, and they'll be good to go. The colours right now are more Brazilian then Olympian.

I want Tokyo to win, but the logo doesnt evoke that amazing city to any extent for me.

If Chicago gets it it will be the first olympics in a long time the USA has won legitimatly and in a full bid process.

Salt Lake City - Bought through bribes.
Atlanta - Bought (also worst ever Olympics in most people's opinions)
Lake Placid - Gifted with no bid process
Los Angeles - Gifted with no bid process to make up for Moscow winning 1980 bid.

So is it a done deal in most people's estimation that Chicago is getting it? What is this based on?

After studying the matter at length ;) , I am ruling Chicago's out. It is 2D or a poorly rendered attempt at 3D.

While Madrid's is also 2D, that fits the subject matter better.

I also think Chicago's star is oddly shaped.

So it leaves Tokyo, Madrid and Rio for me. Will get back after I study them some more.
