Seriously though, the weather forecast looks very poor for tomorrow, so it's definitely looking potentially like Monday for the women's final and maybe even Tuesday for the men's...

They will hopefully get them in today. It would be hard to do them on Sunday because the women's and men's singles finals are two different sessions meaning they need to have two different crowds so it's not like they can do a 4pm start on Sunday and do both finals.

I would see them doing what they did last year and having the Sunday final be 9pm for the ladies.

I think they'll be enough dry time for them to get it in today, though.

Please, they are professionals, earning millions of dollars. Don't tell me they can't wait until 7 PM. Unless the forecast is very bad, which is more the likely reason.

Gahh Sunday Night final AGAIN which means I CAN'T WATCH!!

You know perfectly how Wozniacki will be playing. Exactly the same way she played previous 150 matches in her career.
And Serena will do just enough to dispatch the pusher in two fairly comfortable sets, I'd say 64 63.

Rain Day: US Open Women's Semis Postponed

By Tennis Week Friday, September 11, 2009

The US Open women's semifinals are shower stalled.

Intermittent rain prompted the postponement of the scheduled semifinals between defending champion Serena Williams and 2005 champion Kim Clijsters and ninth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki and unseeded Belgian Yanina Wickmayer.

The USTA will announced the revised schedule for Saturday. The women's final, originally scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday, will be moved to Sunday, provided both women's semifinals are completed tomorrow.

If the Rafael Nadal-Fernando Gonzalez quarterfinal, which was scheduled for completion today, is also postponed until Saturday, then the men's final will be moved to Monday, marking the second straight year of a Monday men's final.

The dreary, day-long drizzle and whipping wind fit the melancholy mood on the anniversary of 9-11.

Yep. CBS rules the day, AGAIN. The final coverage for 8pm can't be moved so why not just stick Kim/Serena in there.

Will the weather even let it happen though? :(

Quite unlikely (http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/wxdetail/10011?dayNum=1&from=36hr_topnav_business). Chances are all Saturday matches will be postponed to Sunday.

The worst scenario, however, is if Caro-Nana match gets a clear window to complete, and it rains in the evening. There's no contingency. In this case Serena and Kim will wait till midnight, and/or they may play 2 matches on Sunday. Damn CBS.

Then it gets interesting. CBS can't show matches between 12-4pm on Sunday because of football. So what do they do, let ESPN show Women's Semifinals?

EDIT: I keep forgetting Nadal/Gonzalez. If they can't get that match done, then they can't do men's semis. So right now, it looks as though on Sunday we'll see Nadal/Gonzalez and Women's Semis. Monday; Women's Final and Men's Semis. Tuesday: Men's Final.

Don't forget Black/Huber vs. Stosur/Stubbs hasn't even played yet, either! :o :help:

You don't have DVR(Digital Video Recorder) or TiVo? If you don't, consider getting one. Every grand-slam, I have lots of matches on my DVR. Since there are lots in early round, I have to watch and delete to make room.

G.

actually neither. anything i miss i generally find online. but even if i did it wouldn't help as the only place i can watch it live is online. plus there's a big difference between seeing it live and watching a repeat, even if i am careful not to discover the score.

Well I think the priority is to finish the Nadal - Gonzalez QF because if they don't complete that match today then they would be in a bigger mess in terms of scheduling. One of those men would need to play three matches in a row, or possibly two matches n one day if they are to advance through the final.

But still it's ridiculous to put the men's doubles final in Ashe -- almost nobody cares for it. I say move the doubles to Grandstand, and Caro-Yanina to Armstrong.

That would be too logical :lol:

It's also stupid putting the men's doubles final on before the two women's SFs when they're behind schedule :tape:

I think a better schedule would've been:

Saturday: Nadal/Gonzo --> Women's SF1 --> Women's SF2
Sunday: Men's SF1 --> Men's SF2 --> Women's final (night session)
Monday: Men's doubles final --> Men's singles final --> women's doubles final

I guess the poor scheduling is down to tv contracts, I mean some of the men's 1st round matches weren't played until the first Wednesday and there were no weather delays then.

How many bad scheduling decisions do they want to make?

haha

It's amazing that the USA, the supposedly most technologically advanced nation in the world, can't keep a bit of rain off a tennis court. Why haven't they built a roof a long time ago or something? Simple covers would speed things up... goddamnit.

can't be that expensive to install though.

Well if they can afford to pay the singles winners a million each I'm pretty sure they can afford a few grand to build in adequate drainage.

I can understand them not having a roof because the complexity of designing and installing such a monstrosley gigantic roof for those ridiculously sized stadiums would take a long long time and I'm not sure how safe or feasible that would be but a drainage system is an option and a very realistic one that they could do and have in place for next year. I have no idea why it hasn't been done because surely it has been mentioned to those in charge at some point.

Is it possible that if it rains tomorow, they will end everything on Monday???:scratch:
I would put the womens on Court 4 and 5:devil: and the men on court 6 and 7 at 6 AM NY-Time:devil::shrug:
And meanwhile on CC, all ball kids and referees have time till 6 PM to dry the court:)
