I notice the prize money for singles winner are equal, but women's singles play best of 3.

Do you think it's going to be too difficult or too tough physically and mentally for most women to play best of 5 sets? Or it would be scheduling hassle, which one could start earlier?

Who knows Safina could recover in the 3rd round? Or Elena or Maria or others could come back if it were best of 5?

Forget the 5 sets, ive always wished that the men and woman singles winner would play each other just for fun.

I think the finals should be 5 sets. I think there may have been a few different outcomes including this year's Wimbledon. A problem is though that the Roland Garros finals have been dire for several years now and some may not relish 3-5 sets of such awful play. At the same time though the play may have been better if Dinara had had more time to warm up and know she had the safety of 5 sets.

Overall though I ticket paying spectators have been short changed in recent years and if hte women want equal prize money then they should deliver equal 5 sets at least in the finals.

in later rounds for sure...

don't know about early rounds...this time they were close, earlier year it was 61 61 (a third 61 does not held)

for sure the top players would benefit, no way oudin would have survived,...safina not so sure, kuz vs wozniaki would have been a top 5 setter in the end...and it's not like a fivesetter takes 5 hours...some atp are shorter than 3 hours..
but it won't happen, neither the woman nor the media wants it

Nooooo, Imagine someone like Wozniacki or Jankovic playing a match going- 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 10-8. I could never see it happening. It's great that the woman only play best of 3.

They couldn't pull off a string of 5 set wins, its just unhealthy. Women and men are built different physically, and personally I would get bored of all the errors.

Don't we have enough injuries as it is? Imagine Golovin playing a 5 set match

i think they should institute it in grand slam finals. The used to do it at the chase championships--that was fun

They should play best-of-five from the first round on - just to avoid that players like Bartoli are able to reach a Grand-Slam-final.

I don't understand why they don't play 5 sets at the masters-final. It was a great thing!
At least that would garantuee 5 best-of-five matches a year!

I'd rather they make the men play to three sets.

Do marathon runners get more prize money than 100 m runners?

No, it's already boring enough seeing the men play 5 sets at slams.

nooooooooooooo.. I love the fact that they have to play to five sets in GS's.
There is a difference between fysical capabilities of women and men, so I don't see any problem with playing to five for men and playing to three for women.

women would train for 5 sets if they had to play them...didn't they use to play 5 at yec final??

anyways no...not for physical reasons but simply because it would take too long seeing EVERYONE play 5 sets of tennis...imagine a court with nadal/nole/jj/caro/robredo playing 5 sets each...that alone could take the opening week :o

No.

Although I personally would have loved had the AO 07 and 09 finals gone on for another set.

Men SHOULD NOT play best of 3. :weirdo: WTF? We always have 5set classics at each slam for the men. If you can't stand to watch it, then don't. Obviously there are tons of people who love it.

And women DEFINITELY shouldn't play best of 5. Best of 3 is already torture sometimes. There hasnt been a highquality women's final in a long time.. I dont think anyone wants to see the disaster of the finals we've been seeing go on for any longer than they have to.

God no. The scheduling is disorganised enough at the Aussie and the USO especially.

I still like the idea of the 5 set final at the YEC, like they did briefly in the early 90's?

no 5 sets will drag. Especially with the current level of the WTA
both women and men should play 3 setters and the third set should be played out @ every event.

This is the exact reason i despise 5 set matches for men OR women. IMO it gives people wayyyy to much of a cushion for poor play. You can virtually be on court for a set and a half playing terrible and still be in contention to win the match. It makes most leads seem irrelevant in many instances and makes for a lot more boring matches then exciting 5 set thrillers. I think the men should go to playing best of 3 i bet if that was the case the mens tour would be MUCH different.

why don't the men play 3 sets in slams? they are all injured by the semi-finals and watching 5 sets is DULL.

A 5 set match can be amazing when the quality is good but otherwise it can be tough. I was at the Cilic-Haas match 2 months ago and while it was a very good match it lasted like 4 hours and had to be stopped due to darkness late in the third. Its hard sitting through a match that long.
I remember before Elena said she could play best of 5 sets it wouldn't be a problem for her. So maybe it wouldn't be such a bad option after all;)

Don't we get enough rubbish tennis as it is?

Having said that, I did think that women's tennis lost something years ago when the YEC final lost its 5 set spectacle. It was only once a year, and for a major title - I didn't understand why it was stopped. Same as bonus points, I guess. Madness. Run by donkeys.

the only thing i would consider would be the final being 5 sets, however seeing women's finals have been utter shit for the last 4 years, it probably wouldn't be a good idea

 You certainly don't like mens tennis, do you?

I'm missing their Masters Series tournaments' 5-sets finals. That match format is one of the greatest things in this sport.

As for the women, the more sets they will play the lower level of play it would be. So no. Let it be as it is now.

I think that had yesterday's final been a best of 3, Kim would have lost the first set 6-2. But now, we got a far more interesting first set.

As I've said before, I think they should play 3 out of 5 sets in GS Finals, but not throughout the whole tournament.
