the semis are always played during the day, aren't they? So it's no surprise.

Sep 10th, 2009, 10:01 PM
Both semis are always in the daytime because of the final. Usually, they have the men double championship at 11:00am and the 1st women semi, no earlier then 1:00pm. So they must be concerned about the weather to switch the schedule around.

It's always played during the day. I think they do so because the final is the next day.

WTF I wanted a night match!!! :help:

The semis are never night matches. The only time in the last several years the semis were played at night was when the schedule was all messed up because of rain in 2003. The blockbuster semi is usually 3rd match on Ashe after the Men's doubles final and the first women's semi. Serena/Kim is only first on Ashe because of the fear of rain.

SF are always day matches... so that the womens can rest for the final ;)

Oh yea, I keep thinking of the 2003 epic semi's at night. They need to do that again. So it's forcasted to rain tomorrow?

It wouldn't be fair to make the women play so late and then play a slam final less than 24 hours later. We must remember the other 3 slams give players a day off between the semi and the final so the Open being unique in this can't give the players even less time to prepare than usual. What Justine did in 03' was commendable, but it is really too much to ask of the women on a regular basis. What they do to the guys is somewhat unfair also, but the guys get more days off earlier in the tourney. Yes it is supposed to rain later this evening and overnight as well as tomorrow late in the afternoon. Saturday there is supposed to be rain too. It's supposed to clear up Sunday. This tournament may very well turn out just like last year with a Sunday and Monday Final.

That's CBS's decision. They don't televise night matches unless it's the women's final.

Do you mean Jelena? as in JJ AKA Jelena Jankovic, and that was the final (which has been a scheduled night match since 2001) and not a semi. Serena's semi last year was against Dinara and that was a day session match.

bunch of idiots here. Ofcourse a SF is always played during the day, since the final is the next evening.
Otherwise players would have less than 24 hours of rest :weirdo:

Not weird at all. Officials do that so that Serena can have as much rest as possible up until the final, especially if rain is in store.

BuTtErFrEnA
Sep 10th, 2009, 11:25 PM
it's not only that...but the fact that serena is also in the doubles final...so she could end up playing friday sunday sunday if the rain isn't cooperative...they are always during the day but they are giving serena the ability to be off the court given how the week has gone and how the weekend will go

1 - There are NO night matches on Friday (excepting certain circumstances because of weather).

2 - Serena/Kim match is on first because the bottom half started first.

No they are first because Serena is in 2 events and they want to get the blockbuster semi in before the rain.

It will help kim (imo) because the night matches are always built up to be a bigger occasion with more drama and intensity....and kim has suffered with nerves in the past. Not that she wont be nervous but i think having it during the day where the atmosphere is different to a night match will help kim.

no, your not listening...i couldnt give a flying foook what round it is.....kim playing a night match against serena would be more nerve wracking than playing her during the day becuase it doesnt have the atmosphere that a night match does. Geez....

The confussion about a semi final night match comes from the fact that when most people think of a womens US Open semi final they'll automatically think of Henin vs Capriati which was a night match.

If it rains, Wickmayer vs Wozniacki will be moved.

The tournament director obviously doesn't want to put Wickmayer vs Wozniacki first and then risk to have Serena or Kim playing two matches in two days or finsih a 3AM an loose to a GS nobody.
