2009 Marion's run will probably drive her to Bali, a fabulous island where she was finalist in 2006.

But I'm sure that Marion still dreams of far east. Tokyo-Beijing-Osaka : To Be Or .......To Bali.

Easy field in Osaka, only 3 top 30 players, but those are Schiavone and Wozniacki.... Hopefully Caro pulls out here, surely she doesnt intend to play Tokyo, Beijing, here, Moscow and then Doha in 5 weeks? Madness. Taht would open it nicely for Mar.

Well, Kim won and Marion was one of only 2 players to take a set off Kimm all tournament.

It was indeed a very unlucky draw for Marion. Yes, only she and Venus took a set off Kim, so in retrospect it was actually quite a good performance.

Lighter

Marion even has been the only one player who led 1 set to love vs Kim. And i don't forget the first two games of the 2nd set.

Alexia Dechaume, french fed cup team coach has said : "Marion has never played so well...It's just she found kim in the beginning of her run".

I guess it's very important for her to know that.

Interesting tie vs Sorana Cirstea.

I think marion has a excellent chance o making the semis.

If she brings it venus is gone, jankovic is irrelevant and the rest are history.
But as we all know she is going to have to play her a game.

R1: Bartoli destroyed dangerous Cirstea 6-3 6-0 :)

What a match for Marion! Next round is facing Aravane Rezai, who defeated Errani 6-2 6-2. Not an easy match but IMO Sorana was more difficult than the french, anyway Marion has to be very solid and regular in all of the matches because there are complicated players in the total draw. GOOD LUCK

Great win, and still on course to play JJ again. I hate being so confident for it, but at Stanford it weas pretty obvious even JJ playing her best tennis couldnt beat an average Marion. I wouldnt be surprised to see a beatdown if they played, but typically im looking too far ahead. I hope she can beat Nastya well and build some steam.

To be honest i have to disagree Ronoc  I think she has a fantastic chance here for the semi at least, and while Azarenka could easily beat Marion she has been horrendous recently. I could easily see SuperNa or Safarova beat her. On the other side we destructive Sharapova, and Marions' pusher nemisis', Radwanksa and Wozniak. :tape: I think he chance does lie best with the bottom half.

Not surprised at the result, only bitterly diappointed. Every match with JJ seems to be a grudge match now, and shes one of the players i want Marion to always beat.

Looking back, JJ was playing very well up to that point, and take into consideration Marion having less then a day to recover from a 3 hour marathon, and the bad blisters, this loss isnt so bad. Even though she wont have a bye next week, she'll have a greater recovery time for Beijing and Osaka, and there is no point in wrecking your feet just for an extra few matches. Im just gald i decided not to get up at 5 this morning, i wouldve been so disappointed getting up for nothing.

Tokyo was still an extremely positive tournament, a round better then last year, and 3 wins here brought her wins to 40 this year. Already she has a good start to the Asian circut, unlike last year. With Beijing, Osaka and Bali remaining this year, there is no reason why Marion cant reach 50 wins this year, if what ive heard about Balis format is true.

Lighter
Oct 1st, 2009, 05:57 PM
Marion won't go to Bali only if she enters top 10. She's currently the best ranked player over top 10 who won an international event. Bali is closed for top 10 players who won an international event (Dinara, Venus, Lena, Caro, Vika, Zvo, JJ, Flavia). And Flavia who's 10 must play fed cup finals the same week than Bali.

That's why we have to wait Marion's result in Beijing compared to Ana, Aga, Sam, Nadia and Na LI's ones.

MARVELLOUS draw. No gurantee on Safina getting past her first two rouunds, and even if she somehow does she would be easy picking for a top 20 player. Magda, Kleybanova, Wickameyer, all talented young players but Marion shouldt have any trouble. She should make the quarters here.

The 2nd quarter is kind too. Bepa is slumping it seems, and i think if she was to play Marion it would be Marions best chance of a win, on a fast court. But Bepa isnt even guaranteed to get past Cirstea or Sabs/Schiavone. And Pennetta had a horrible loss in Tokyo, she shouldnt be much of a threat. This is potentially as a good a draw as Marin couldve gotten, with the exception of maybe getting Kuz instead of Bepa. No complaints though.

not an easy match but after very attractive draw for Marion :)The problem is that after R1, french journalists found her very tired. She has confirmed that end of year isn't easy for players who played a lot like her : inside L'équipe street edition (http://marionbartoli.blog.co.uk/2009/10/05/alisa-kleybanova-v-marion-bartoli-7100795/)

Go Marion !!! Give your best !

I don't now how FFT could'nt give to Marion the top 1 in the french top :devil:FFT will probably rank Marion as French number 1. She has the best result in slam (1/4 at AO), she won a Premier tournament (like Amélie), she won an international event (like Aravane), she is French number 1 both at ranking and at race and she doesn't have points to defend from YEC (contrary to last year).

She will play Bali and could be alternate in Doha. And she will be very close to top 10 (Ana, Zvo and Aga have so many points to defend). I've no doubt and it will be fair.

Even though its a cakewalk draw now, if she doesnt like the courts she should concentrate on Osaka and then rest up well for Bali. That's why she will probably try to win this match after a day off. She knows that a 1/4 is really reachable. Zhang lost to Yvonne Meusberger and Sophie Ferguson 2 times.

on a positive note, kleybanova plays a fast game and the court should give Marion much more time on the ball, compared to a faster surface

i realise Marion herself likes to play a fast game, but i'm quite hopeful for a winShe didn't like AO due to same reasons (slow courts, heavy balls). But maybe court 4 is quicker than court 1. I remember that in Brisbane Marion found court where she played Czink slower than central court. She's very sensitive.

Marion has been playing so well all year long, of course there were few periods of doubts but they didn't last. She deserves a spot in the top 10!
Im glad she at last made a good run again in a mandatory tournament, if Im not mistaken, her last noticeable one was in Melbourne! Plus she confirmed her good tournament in Tokyo like Aga and proved she still is in-form, even so close to the end of the season.

As you guys said, it will be a very important match tomorrow. Flavia seems exhausted, I doubt she can beat Vera . And if it's Zvonareva, Marion will really have to think a lot before she enters the court. We don't want another beatdown!

Bad for Marion that its late, as Bepa has a lot more recovery time. Still, Bepa isnt playing as well as she was end of last year/ early this year so Marion will have a chance. Plus, she seemed to have Bepa firgured out in Dubai despite the score, Bepa had won only 5 more points i recall, and Marion firgued Wozniacki out in Stuttgart so im always hopeful. Not expecting anything though. It would be a massivewin though, and really boost her chance for the YEC, and she said in her interview she want to be an alternate at least.

Well it's always crap to lose if you hit more winners, in this case six more, and still lose, especially in straight sets. I just think she blew a big chance again. Two tier 1 semis she's reached in her career. She lost to Cibulkova in Montreal, now to Radwanska. Neither are bad players, but they were both more than beatable. It's not like playing a Williams or Sharapova.

Marion has a lot defend at the start of 2010, so winning all her matches at Bali would really help. With Kim, Justine and Maria all playing proper schedules, the tour is going to see some real changes. I think Marion will be able to stay around 10-15.

Her draw in Osaka isn't that bad in my opinion, have a look at top-half! Marion will be dead tired but I hope she shows up and takes it seriously! This consistency may push her into top 10 again. Marion says today in l'équipe street edition that she hopes to be ready for BALI. In fact, she felt pain in shoulder from 1st point played.

Imo, she will be in Bali ready to fight vs Yanina, annabel and the others.

she is still in there, and I can't see that any of the other girls will create big waves sufficient enough to keep her out!Well, they might have a special point tabulation system for Bali that I'm unaware of,but Rezai's chances look good---she's smokin' hot:hearts:,btw---as she is the 10th-highest ranked player who has won an MM and is NOT going to YEC.I say this assuming that Radwanska doesn't take the final Doha spot by winning Moscow(she'd still need Zvonareva and JJ to lose early enough in that tourney). If Aga won Moscow, then Rezai would be bumped to #11.More likely, either Vera or JJ will nab the last Doha spot with the other playing Bali.

Here's the Top Ten amongst the eligibles
1.JJ or Zvonareva
2.Marion
3.Pennetta
4.Stosur
5.Wickmayer
6.AMG
7.MJMS
8.Shahar Peer
9.Czink
10.Rezai

However,I'll admit that Bali might calculate their points differently cuz Wicky and AMG were the first ones announced...but that MIGHT'VE been b/c Stosur hadn't yet won her tournament--for eligibility's sake--while the others were clearly still aiming for YEC...we'll see

If Marion wins it it rounds up her season nicely. It would be 50 wins and $1,000,000 for the year. I hope she does if only for the stats, it looks good!

The only player going who Marion has problems with is Peer, but hopefully she wont play her. I hope Bepa qualifies for Doha above JJ as JJ has said she wont play Bali and Bepa hasnt said anything on it yet so she still could if she doesnt get Doha.

Sabs isnt even playing well recently, i think Marion would beat her, especially defensive Marion as Sabs would just commit error after error looking at her Luxembourg run. Its Kimiko id be worried about, shes a very different player and Marion usually doesnt do well against net rushing players. But still, its well within her capability to win here.

No, 4 groups of three. The winners of the groups play in the semifinal where the players are seeded according to their WTA Tour Rankings again.

Yeah she should beat her... but Shahar plays very good tennis now and surely is as motivated as Marion for this tournament.
Even Magda's serve could be hard to retrieve indoors...

At least if Marion gets through, she would have had a good warm up for the semies.

No, 4 groups of three. The winners of the groups play in the semifinal where the players are seeded according to their WTA Tour Rankings again. Thanks for explaining;since there could easily be a threesome where the standings finish with a three-way tie at 1-1,I'll assume that number of games won or percentage of sets won will serve as tiebreakers

Marion must beat Shahar if she wants to qualify to the semies. The Israeli won her match pretty easily too 61 76 over Magda.
