:woohoo: It seems like 5'2" Lauren Davis is drawing some inspiration from Melanie's run in the Women's draw. This is her second big win in the draw, taking out (3)Timea Babos last round. This is Lauren's second Junior Grand Slam and her second year as a WC for winning the USTA Girls 16s title. Lauren has not played much on the international level (only three prior tournaments). Earlier this year she made it to the round of 16 at the USTA International Spring Championships (G1) and won the International Grass Court Championships (G3) as a qualifier.

Looks like there's a new girl to watch from the United States!

Bogdan sucks outside clay. Pretty shocking she won a couple of matches, must have had a lucky draw.

I wouldn't say she sucks, but her game is much more suited to clay courts. That much is true. I would say probably the reason for this loss is a bit of underestimation and also a lack of motivation. When you are Top500 in the world it's difficult to get excited about junior tournaments. Still, Davis is a great young prospect for the US and it's about time more people started paying attention to her.

What an awesome win! I've never head of Lauren before this USO . The US will have 2 girls in the 2009 USO JR QTRs :bounce:

Davis has done great in the 16s but for some reason has played extremely little outside of that. Hopefully she will start playing some itfs and do well when she transitions to international events. I have heard she is extremely talented so we will see what happens. These are two really good wins. Regardless of the surface it should show she has some game and potential. Keep going Lauren! :yeah:

She is actually number 3 or 4 in USTA 18s rankings, but that doesn't mean as much as working on getting ITF junior ranking up and starting to test the pro waters. There's a 10k ITF scheduled in the Cleveland area (which is very close to her) in October so I'm hoping she'll play there.
