View Full Version : Poor Melanie's sis'

Pam just embarrassed her on National TV.

She covered Melanie's 9 year old little sister's eyes and told her to spell "Believe."

The poor girl spelled it "B-e-l-E-i-v-e.

Before she knew it, Pam made a pithy conciliatory remark and left.

Melanie's sisters was left to stand there, mouth open and, to me, looking a little horrified.

(I admit, I may be seeing this through the lens of fatherhood myself and imagining how I'd feel if that was my 9 year old daughter.)

Pam created another "Pam Hater" live on TV :haha:

Pam's been doing that for years, she means well but...

If that's how you decribed it, then it sounds pretty bad. It's not the first time children's emotions are taken for granted.

:haha:

Seriously though, the commentators have been interviewing the whole family all day. Mary Joe also interviewed the 9 year-old sister earlier today, asking her what does she think of all this attention Melanie has been getting...She was really nervous and mumbling her words. Then Pam interviewed her in the stands before the match and embarrassed her when she misspelled "believe."

Ok, if she was 6 or 7, I would understand, but she's NINE. Believe should be an easy one by that age...

On national TV, before the biggest match of your sisters life, in a stadium filled with 20,000 people?

Please.

You're heartless.

Sometimes I really hate Pam and the rest of the ESPN commentators because this is so wrong. She could have just said nothing after the girl spelled Believe incorrectly and moved on. Why embarrass the little girl on national tv? SMH. I was pissed off when Pam dissed Serena's book but it was still funny to me for some reason.

I'm starting to have a love/hate relationship with the ESPN commentators. I think they're more entertaining than the other commentators I've heard on TTC, or Direct TV interactive. However, they're just so damn messy that I'm outraged nearly every time they say something out of pocket.

That's who should be fired, not Pam Shriver.

There's something unsavoury about Shriver that I just don't like. I think it's the hard brashness - very, very old fashioned American brashness that doesn't translate very well across the pond. It just looks so classless and arrogant.

Well, after looking at the divorce thread, I must say that Mr. Sanderson isn't completely at fault. Perhaps if Mom spent more time going to PTA meetings and less time playing naked mixed doubles with Melanie's coach..... :tape:

Actually, twin sister Katherine does play. She played the Girls 18 Nationals here in Berkeley last month, and lost in the first round.

Spelling believe at the age of nine can be difficult for lots of children

What else could she do? A counseling session? In hindsight, Pam shouldn't have asked the question, but it was funny - 'cuz I can't spell either - I I really think the kid won't be crushed by the little flub.

Because they had the word believe on their tee shirts and on Melanin's sneakers. Believe was their battle cry and I'm sure Mary thought the girl at her age could spell believe.
