View Full Version : Any news on WC?

Sep 17th, 2002, 11:35 AM
This is such a high class field- is there any news on WC yet?

Sep 17th, 2002, 01:29 PM
One for Elena Bovina, one for either Safina or Kuznetzova. The last is as yet free.

Sep 17th, 2002, 01:42 PM
They are probably saving it for Anna K.

Sep 17th, 2002, 01:51 PM
Any person of the Gold/Silver Exempt :) I hope Lina will get it.

Sep 17th, 2002, 02:28 PM
I'm hoping Lina gets the Gold Exempt one ;)

QUAL WC's should be interesting too ;)

Sep 17th, 2002, 02:30 PM
Please 1 for Anna!!!!

Sep 17th, 2002, 03:20 PM
It makes me sick the amount of wildcards Kournikova gets. She needs to get into qualifying and work for those main draw places.

Sep 17th, 2002, 03:42 PM
Even if it makes you sick...she'll get it anyway:p

Sep 17th, 2002, 04:07 PM
The tournament attracts more sponsors when Anna is in!!!!
We need to accept that. Besides, Anna is a former top 10 player and still has the ability to beat elite players.

Sep 17th, 2002, 05:53 PM
AnnaK will get it, and as long as she continues her good play this fall, excluding US Open, you probably won't have to worry about her getting anymore wild cards, as her ranking gets back into the 20's.

Sep 17th, 2002, 07:31 PM
the last word from Tarpischev (#1 in Russian tennis)

1. Bovina (no competition)
2. Safina or Kuznetsova
3. Kournikova (over Krasnorutskaya)

pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff   :fiery:

Sep 17th, 2002, 08:42 PM
LOL!Don't be mad Eggy Anna need the WC :phttp://www.websmileys.de/teufel10.gif

Sep 17th, 2002, 08:49 PM
pfffffffffff Anna gets a WC every week :p

Lina needed one here
she only plays 3 more events all yr
and has only played 2 WTA events all yr

but i knew Anna would get it when she was entered as MDO :fiery:

Sep 17th, 2002, 08:55 PM
Lina can get a WC for the qualifying round plus she need to play a lot of matches and it can help her ;)

Sep 17th, 2002, 09:01 PM
I'm happy if Anna gets a wild card, now I just hope she puts it to good use.

Sep 17th, 2002, 10:42 PM
Mr. Tarpischev is not in charge of giving away Gold Exempt Wild Card. That`s WTA`s right ;)

Sep 17th, 2002, 10:47 PM
I think Vera deserve MD WC over Bovina and the others :(

Sep 17th, 2002, 10:49 PM
Eggy...do u think the WTA will give Lina exempt status next year. She never even got to reap the benefits of her stella 2001 season because of injury. I think it would only be fair if they made an exeption and gave her one.

Probaly Anna K's friend that Russian Mafioso guy made a phone call and Lina was out. :(

Vera does deserve one too but NOT over Elena Bovina, forget that!

King Lindsay
Sep 18th, 2002, 06:07 AM
I bet that's exactly what happened, janie.

Bovina I understand. Kournikova, I understand. I don't like, but I understand. But why Safina/Kuznetsova for the other one, and Lina's not even in competition for it? She's a more accomplished player than either of them. Although, if I were them, I'd give it Kuznetsova.

Sep 18th, 2002, 10:43 AM
WTA would give one to Anna over Lina, thats where Shamil has his info from.

Lina won't get another Exempt status next year, just sad to see her not being able to use her's at all this year

there are too many choices
had this been 2001 then Lina would have got one WC for sure.
now its a different story, next year i hope all these girls get in automatically :)

how about qualies?

and I think Sveta would get it over Dinara

Sep 18th, 2002, 11:37 AM
QUAL WC's should go to

Lina K
Vera D
Maria K

and i think/hope Galina Fokina who needs to be able to try and defend some of her pts from beating Anna in 1st rd last yr

King Aaron
Sep 18th, 2002, 11:41 AM
Thanks Eggy. What do you mean should? How about Nadia?

Sep 18th, 2002, 12:20 PM
Nadia is in due to her injury ranking

Should meaning like thats how i'd give them and most likely candidates.

Dinara and Vera Z won't need one for here.

King Lindsay
Sep 18th, 2002, 12:30 PM
You would hope Sveta gets it over Dinara, but then again, Dinara's brother is the best Russian player in the world. That's gotta hold some weight.

Sep 18th, 2002, 01:24 PM
Well actually it's no harm to Lina to go through the qualies. She needs more matches right now anyway.

As for Anna K, it's almost unbelievable that she still needs WCs to get into these events, a WHOLE YEAR after returning from her injury. She must not feel too thrilled about that herself. And the other players must resent her for taking the WCs right & left, all year long, even more than they resented her before. Oh well.

Moving right along, would Natasha Z. need a doubles WC to play here?

Sep 18th, 2002, 01:58 PM
nope, she just need a good dubs partner! ;)

Sep 18th, 2002, 01:59 PM
her rank would get her in no probs ;)
well i hope so
but she'll get a WC if needed

auntie janie
Sep 18th, 2002, 02:07 PM
I won't complain if Natasha and Ai stick together! :) :)

Sep 18th, 2002, 02:28 PM
Will Ai and /or Rubin play Moscow? , If NZ play one of with them, she don't will need any WC :)

Sep 18th, 2002, 02:35 PM
Ai is in Tokyo
Chanda isn't listed to be here either

auntie janie
Sep 18th, 2002, 04:06 PM
Rats. :(

Sep 18th, 2002, 10:23 PM
Sveta is not necessarily more deserving of a WC over Dinara. Both have excellent results this year. If you want to get picky. Dinara deserves it most. She has only played seven WTA tournaments this year and she is already ranked #80 winning a title as well.

Eggy, if Dinara get the MD WC, do you think they will give Sveta a Qualie WC and if so, who would fall off your qualie WC list from above.

Sep 19th, 2002, 03:19 AM
Sveta doesn't need wc to play qaulification, so none of the players mentioned above would lose their wc.

Sep 19th, 2002, 04:22 AM
Sveta is not on the Qualie list.

Sep 19th, 2002, 09:47 AM
Where is the qualifiers list and also is this being televised does anyone know?

King Aaron
Sep 19th, 2002, 11:00 AM
Thanks for answering Eggy.

Sep 19th, 2002, 12:57 PM
at time of commitments (AUG 12)
Sveta was pretty low down on the list of qualifiers, but i'm sure she won't have any probs getting in.

Mags check here http://members.cox.net/mabtennis/mosc02.htm

Sep 19th, 2002, 01:44 PM
Thanks TBE

By the looks of things the qualifiers is going to be an interesting tournament all on its own!.

Sep 19th, 2002, 01:47 PM
Most of these qualifiers won't turn up

Martian Martin
Sep 19th, 2002, 01:53 PM
Mags, it'll almost certainly be televised on Eurosport, it has been for the past few years. Although last year it wasn't live, it was only recorded, hopefully will be live this year though.

So if the qualifiers won't turn up, Eggy, what do you think the cut off will be?

Sep 20th, 2002, 12:01 PM
Will Maria Sharapova get a wild card into the qualies?

Sep 20th, 2002, 12:18 PM
Maria plays same week in Japan

i think qual cut off will be around 150-200

That is weird. Maria is Russian NOT JAPANESE! Anyways, THANKS EGGY THE GENIOUS!!!!!!!!!

Sep 20th, 2002, 04:39 PM
Maria at best would only have received a Qual WC here but she got a main WC in Japan.

Thanks Eggy. I wonder if Ansley Cargill will play?

Sep 25th, 2002, 01:10 PM
Given that the tournament starts soon is there any more news on who has/hasn't been given a WC?. The players themselves must know by now right?.
