Venus was moving well but I'm still not convinced

Serena was so strong today :speakles:

I saw Venus serve a 123 mph serve though, so it didnt look like she was being that hampered by the knee. Hopefully she was just cautious today and that was the cause of her sloppy performance.

This team were good! Really played a perfect first set against the sisters!

Well done to them :hatoff:

Great stuff from Team Williams, :hatoff: Serena. Chan also did a good job!

Venus was horrible in the first set, I had to stop watching.

Looks like it got cleaned up in the second.

Venus is fine except for her serve, which is affected by that knee. Hopefully she'll have her next match as a night match. Serena was fierce!

serena was amazing through most of the match, venus was struggling especially on serve.

i hope kata finds another partner, no disrespect to chan but shes just not consistent enough from the back court or on serve to back up kata.

Kata was the one who played pretty bad especially returning serve

Anyways, I think they'll still team up again in Guangzhou since they're both there.

i only watched from the end of the 1st set and 2nd and kata seemed pissed with chan and chan was all over the place off the ground in the 2nd set.

Expected tough match (at least for the first set), but WS came through convincingly in the second set. Good stuff. :yeah:

5 double faults, 17 winners to 19 errors? This is two former top 10 players and two former finalists we're talking about, that's not a perfect set! Especially by Srebotnik's standards.

Still, a nice tournament for them defeating Barrois/Garbin considering it was Kata's first of 2009.

Kata seemed pretty bored in the match and was kinda errorful too :awww:

And Serena and Venus were just too good in the second set.

To be fair from what I saw Kata was not pissed, she looked actually that bored throughout the match. Chan and Serena pretty much carried their teams through the first 10 games. But yes after Chanbotnik blew that SP (and in that Venus' service game Chan was saving GPs like mad. :spit: ), Chan went back to her usual erratic self and Kata got even more bored. :spit:

I don't blame any though. It's their first time playing together and both showed some great hands that had brought them success in the game. And they did push one of the best teams in the world, if not the best, to quite a limit in that first set. So I'm still hopeful to see them settle down and start winning.

Well done by the sisters. Serena was like a wall as uaual. Venus wasn't moving bad but that forehand and the serve are way too shaky.

EDIT: I may not sound too convincing as I'm obviously Chan fan, but this is how I feel. Anyway results will show, if they get to team up again.

What did you expect them to do? win a set? :spit:

They did really well, they deserve some credit ;)

It's not totally inconceivable that this pairing could have won this match with a bit more matchplay. So sure they could have won the set, it was 5-5 at one point. Add Venus' knee struggles into it....

Serena was clutch. Venus was awful in the first set.
Srebotnik was erratic and Chan was playing excellent for patch there in the first set and consistently better than Srebotnik throughout the match. Serena and Chan carried their teams.

:worship: Team Williams, now rest up Serena!

Olivia! I was there, too! :wavey:

They played like crap til 5-4 Chan/Srebotnik in the first. The other girls had a SP and then Serena unleashed herself and finally started to play good tennis. Venus couldn't get a first serve in, even if her life depended on it, but hey! Such is life. A win is a win and I'll be there to see them again tomorrow. :D

I hope the knee injury wont turn into an excuse if she loses to Kim tomorrow.

Because if she is playing doubles and regreting to withdraw then it isnt serious enough to make her lose

Wasn't it cool? I stumbled on it though. They were supposed to play in the morning so I thought they had cancelled. i was waiting for the roddick match to end so I could go see safina's. in the meantime i was going to go check out rodionova vs bondarenko :o. did you see Daniel Craig???? He was there!!!!

Chan was the one doing all the work...i barely noticed Srebotnik. and thank goodness someone gave Malivai Washington a job. i wondered what had hapeened to him.

Chanbotnik

If Srebotnik will be in form this match will be much more difficult match for Williams sisters.
I don't know but Kata looked so bored, did so many mistakes on return ... actually she played bad.
Even though I am Srebotnik fan I have to say Chan played much better as Kata.
It was also their first tournament togehter and I hope they will play togehter in the future. :)

Sep 6th, 2009, 10:38 AM
yeah , Kata was definitely not at her best , got aced a million times and did lots of mistakes . Of course it's partly due to the power of the sisters .
Chan was good most of the time, brilliant some times
Serena was just great and Venus followed , and that was enough for them

well done to the WS and still nice for Chan/Srebotnik to win a match and push the sisters in the first . Wish they had taken the first set though :awww:

Because if she is playing doubles and regreting to withdraw then it isnt serious enough to make her lose

If you can't see that Venus has and always will be stubborn to admit her injury is hampering her then that's your problem. You only need to read her press conferences and see her matches to see that as well.

Therefore, it WILL affect her against Kim. It's not an excuse, more like a HUGE factor. And thats the god honest truth. Of course as Venus fans we hope she can find someway to win thus we are rooting for her and have some sort of belief.
