Awesome! Well done, Franny... I really felt that this was an "upset" in the making. Azarenka, like Mirza and Wozniak, is just another OVERRATED brainless ball basher. Safina and Sharapova beat her earlier this year with power and now Franny takes her out with a versatile game. Glad to see more and more of the ballbashers going bye-bye.

I am shellshocked Vicki had 46 unforced errors. Vicki has to stop playing one way. She stands out there beyond the baseline just trying to engage in these long vollies. How abot mixing up your game and coming to the net. Vicki should have known that Schivione is the slicing queen, yet it was causing problems for Azarenka. The thing is Schivione is a beatable player and sometimes Schivione just mails it in. What a disgrace!

Those are very convincing wins for Vika, indeed! On the other hand, this shows that Franny is able to use her variety and come up with different strategies to overcome someone who had beaten her easily before. In a weird way you kind of proved my point about Francesca's versatility!:p

Not to take anything away from Fran's good win here... but this match was lost by Vika. She and her coach will likely split, and that can't be an easy thing to deal with during a big tournament.

Fran did what she had to... but I have to think if this match had happened at any of the other three slams this year, Vika would have demolished Fran similarly to their other two meetings.

Congrats though..

Vika. Fix something.

Well done to Fran, i've never seen her play that well before :yeah:

Vika :help:

I don't know whats happened to her since Wimbledon, she seems to be playing so much more passively now and with a lot less power, whether its because of her confidence has dropped since her losses in LA, Cincy and Toronto I don't know. It's pretty clear though she needs to improve that first serve considerably before she's going to make that next level of the top 5 because its just far too easily returned even for none top 20 players and she isn't getting any cheap points from it.

Sour grapes.

Seriously, Vika is an awesome player when she hits shots at hip-height. As soon as you put some spin on the ball, she has no clue what the hell to do. The only difference between the first and other two sets was that Fran started using variety more, using more slices and heavy topspin, and Vika seriously was clueless.

She was in control early on,having mental advantage too thanks to those easy wins over Fran

The problem is she started to play very similarly over and over, which helped Fran to found her rhytm and confidence as the match went on,Fran was the one playing much more smart and aggressive at the end (30 winners to 18 for Fran),fully deserved win.

Well it appears the critics of Azarenka were RIGHT. She is NOT ready for the big time. The girl beats Serena in Miami and the media were too quick to call her the next big thing. Since Miami Azarenka's results have been "okay" something spetacular. Azarenka made the quarterfinals of the French Open and Wimbledon and that's good. However, Azarenka had a poor summer. I believe this girl is good but she needs more variety in her game.

Watched this earlier from middle of 2nd set....oh wow i just loved what i saw!!! A hopeless, useless frustrated Vika suffer badly!!!
Slammed 2 rackets into the ground in her usual lovely way !!

And best of all, Vika got bet in doubles too later!!! :bounce:
Cirstea/Wozniacki beat Zvonareva/Azarenka 5-7, 6-4, 6-2!!

:wavey: to New York from Vika!!

This was a great match.

Fran played amaze, seemingly out of nowhere. Angerenka is quite talented, but clearly has no Plan B.

I hope Fran isn't too hurt for her next match. She plays such passionate, inspiring tennis when she's on. She's a pure joy to watch. :inlove:

Fran in zone is a top 10 player - today she went there enough and got back when she went off . She was having her thighs worked on a lot by the trainer today and then played a 3 set losing doubles match so you hope she is OK for the next round. Its very dooable if she finds her form again and can get back when she drifts off.. Well done Fran.

Nice job Fran!! Started off this year at number 50, is now closing in on the top 20. A chance to make a second slam quarterfinal! :O ... Now if only Safarova could take a freaking hint.

Fran said in her post-match interview that her strategy was 'pushing'. I think what she meant was hitting deep and pushing Vika backwards, rather than pushing in the Wozniacki sense of the word.

It was funny though.

Some of these posts are so ridiculous...:lol:
Some of you aren't tennis fans, but using tennis to spit your hatred !
If you were tennis fans, you should have respect for champions, you would dream to play like her...
But you're are watching tennis, only hoping that some players lose

You should be so frustrated in your own life guys... :tape::lol:
I'm really sorry for you. :help:

PS : i'm sure all the poor frustrated guys will answer my message...
it will help us to recognize these people, and perhaps we can do something for these guys

While there may be some people that fit your description, I think most people's problem with Vika in general has nothing to do with tennis at all. It's more of a personality thing.

horrible match :(

The result is horrible...
But i disagree all the match was horrible for Vika :o

She played very well in the first set, but perhaps she did the mistake to run and run and run everywhere...
It's the plan of Francesca... to wait that the other player is totally tired...

When she lost 1/2 in the second set, i understand she would lose...
You could see the Franny's face... there was no sweat, she wasn't tired !
she was as it was a training... pushing and running and pushing and running...

Vika could have lost 6/0 in the last set... She has tried what she could

It's the problem of her game, it's very tiring to attack every point, never try a low ball to have time to move...
She has to progress there, but she has time ! :)

Exactly... so if it is something personnal, keep it for you...
It's a Tennis forum there...

I think people who use this forum for personnal attack like that should be bannished..

But in any case, that the problem is that you are very frustrated in your own life or that you have personnal problem with Vika... to come there only to attack a champion because you don't like her...

Have you really nothing else to do ?

I imagine that kind of people in their house : "Oh, i have nothing to do ! I think i will connect on Tennis forum to insult player ! It's so funny !"

PS : i don't think i'am so stupid to open a topic only to attack a champion because i don't like her !
I think that kind of people have a medical problem

One more EPIC FAIL for Generation Suck (1989-1991).

The sheer awfulness of today's young prospects seems funny until you realize you're stuck with these useless, overhyped, generic hacks for the next few years. It then gets pretty damned scary.

I suggest that Generation Suck should be collectively forced into early retirement so as to stop wasting everyone's time.
