She has had a great summer and going thru her matches like a no. 1 should!

I would love Flavia to win the US Open, or any slam. But lets be likely here.......it would be a dream come true, and you know Kuznetsova won the US Open at a similar rank five years ago............but I'm not sure, and she will likely to face Serena in QF who I dont think she will be able to beat.

of course i'd like her to win it but i really doubt it.

what makes you think she can win it though?

oh that would have been sweet, wouldn't it? Flavia rocks!

Unless she meets someone like Clijsters, Wozniacki who is a good defender, against who she just doesn't have enough offensive power and weapons, she could do it. Safina, Williams', Azarenka, Sharapova, are perfect matchups for her, as she has the game to force them into errors, and she can also throw an ocassional winner here and there. The serve can be a liability at times, also questionable how that would look against a good returner. But definitely a candidate for bigger things.

she has barely broken a sweat, she is moving so well, producing some incredible shots and most of all she is full of confidence. If she is serena's qf, I fear for serena coz of one quaterena babe:tape: at this rate if she gets past serena ie. if they both get that far, not even venus/kim can stop her.

Flavia's fabulous footwork can get her the victory. Its possible.

Don't know about that, but the potential Flavia/Serena QF is looking like it will be the most interesting one.

If she wants to beat Wozniacki she would need to stay away from long rallies. Shorten the rallies on Caroline and hit her with drop shots and attempt winners quickly.

It's possible that she could reach the final, but only a few players win their first Grand Slam final, so it depends who she might be facing in the final too.

She has a great chance, considering how well she's doing so far.

She has a great chance, she's probably the most reliable player on tour right now.

Sep 4th, 2009, 05:31 PM
barbara schett had a similar run here ten years ago dropping very few games and i remember everyone was speculating if she could go all the way...then she lost to venus in the quarters 6/4 6/3

i think the same will happen to flavia against serena, should they both get that far

markedman
Sep 4th, 2009, 05:42 PM
Possibly. She is playing the best tennis of her career at present. The potential match up with Serena in the QF's is the cruncher. She would really have to believe she can beat Serena. Quite a few players have had Serena on the ropes in GS but didn't believe enough and failed. It would be an interesting match up and a good match to watch.

She's certainly playing with so much confidence right now, and there are very few players in the draw who'll take her down. That being said, I can see her getting far but not winning it.

don't jinx please! even a final or SF would be amazing... Italy would go crazy for her:lol:

If she was in the top half she could have made the final... shame she's in Serena quarter, stupid rigged draw:rolleyes:

Pity she isn't in the top half of the draw. I would really fancy her chances to make the final then but likely that Serena will take her out in the quarters:(

You never know. I was thinking about this even before the US Open started and my gut feelings are usually correct. I dont think she can win but I can see her making the final. I think half the people here sayin hell no havent seen her play this tournament. She is a one of a kind player and her net approaches.! :O

R4: Vera
QF: Serena
SF: Venus/Kim
Final: Maria/Dinara

Sep 4th, 2009, 07:39 PM
If she was in the top half, she'd nearly be a favourite to make the final. Shes not unfortunatly, and i dont think she'll beat Serena, unless she has the match of her life. Having such a H2H vs. Vee though, she wont be afarid going into that match, and with so many quick matches she'll have a lot in the tank.

Zamboni
Sep 4th, 2009, 11:37 PM
She could, but she can't.
Many players still left in the draw could win this tournament, considering how everyone is beating everyone on the WTA these days (admittedly, it would help if someone would eliminate Serena), but we all know they won't.
Flavia is one of these players:shrug: Like Francesco, I'm happy if the makes the QF again. Vera should be a lot tougher than her first 3 opponents have been, and it'll be interesting so see how she handles that.

She won't win it, no way, but of course I am dreaming about it anyway:hearts::hearts:

Better than Wozniacki at least

One makes winners , the other pushes the ball . Huge difference

Getting 'spanked' by Pushniacki (And I support Caro ) and Vera/Serena are two very different things. Just because Caroline has won their last meetings doesn't tell you jack shit about how she will play against Vera and Serena.

Can she? Objectively speaking(in a scientific way), yes, there is still probability for her to win just as everyone left in the draw can.

Will she? (which is the more important one), NO. No science (physical and paranormal) will allow that. Its against the laws of nature.

i thought GM moved on from boring words like "murdered" "bitchslapped" "spanked" and moved onto more exciting happenings such as "so and so stuck a chopstick in, poured soy sauce over and devoured so and so like marion to a doughnut."
