I would agree that Vera and Na are in danger.

Do not think Venus would lose against Rybarikova, although I think Vee will be tested.

Flavia will lose to Aleks. It seems as though with this US Open previous months hard court success is irrelevant! Go Aleks!

Shocking that there is only 2 matches involving 2 seeded players. Na is in trouble IMO.

I've actually been giving this a bit of thought, and I think Vania King vs Hantuchova is ripe for an upset. First off, all the lower ranked USA players seem to be hanging together. (Stephens, McHale, Oudin, King, Mattek-Sands, etc.) The Fed Cup coaching staff is about, the USTA is lending support.

Vania King is going to go into ths match with the best game plan she can execute. And while Hanutchova does what she does well, she's a limited problem to solve. 'The ball will be coming fast'. Hantuchova's serve isn't overpowering, she's relatively slow, and while she is a competent volleyer, she isn't prone to rush the net. Dictate WHERE she can hit, and she's beatable.

Add to that, the US crowd is startin' to feel real good about backing the non-star US players. We're front-runners, it's undeniable and not to our credit. We back a winner, and abandon a loser. But any US player, for the rest of this tournament, who can keep it competitive, will get a lot of crowd support. The stars are aligned for Vania King this match. All except for the fact that Hantuchova is a better, stronger, more accomplished, more expeienced player.

Most likely I'm picking either Li or Zvonareva to be upset.

Possibly Hantuchova.

I'm giving an outside shot to Vika and Caro but not too likely imo.
