7 DF/1 Ace

I'm quite happy she pulled through this one :) She had a few bad moments with serve, and a VERY lucky challenge on a second serve on break point. Good luck against Oudin :D I think she can make QF at least, especially since Oudin has that injury and that might bother her during the match.

A real bore out there, Sharapova was average at best but still throughly overwhelmed McHale.

McHale has potential, but is still very raw, still a good experience for her.

Nice try McHale. You hit to much into Maria strike zone and wasn't used to the power. Hope for a great future.

are these US Open courts blazing fast, or Sharapova's groundstrokes are lightning fast? I swear I never saw a woman pound the ball so hard, she must be possesed or something:confused:

Well done Maria :yeah: Not as good as round 1, but still pretty impressive.

Glad I've finally got to see McHale play. Although overwhelmed today, she's a handy player who definately has a future in the game. Not sure how far she'll go, but right now I'd say top 100 at least. I wish her well.

LOL, she played pretty well apart from the serve. I dunno why everyone goes crazy when she doesn't play a perfect match. Chill, she still only lost 3 games.

She couldn't handle Masha's icy glare.. (Was Masha always like that? so Icy..)
At least she could take solace at serving better-well, at least more stable-than Masha

And, she shows her awkwardness by SIGNING BALLS after she loses.. Hope she continues THAT when she goes pro :)

Guess Serena 'GS MODE' Williams would win, after all..(not my best scenario)

Comprehensive win. She looks good. A few blips on the serve but for the most part she was going for it, so I don't think it's that big a deal. As long as she keeps getting a day of rest I could see her going deep. Even winning.

Maria! :D Took about the first three games to get settled and seemed pretty nervy for much of the first set. :o No doubt she heard about the upset bug. Only showed up fully for the second half of second set I felt.

But still good scoreline. Played good enough to win and pretty easily. Now, get those nerves out of the way Mash. Play better in the next round. Can't afford to wait to get settled. ;)

Again, I don't understand all the talk about that, Sharapova only lost 5 points on her first serve, and 12 on her second serve(inclufding 7 DF), she is just hitting her second serve way too hard, French commentators were choked:lol: and her average 1st serve speed is the same as Serena, 105 mph.

Good win for Maria. :clap2: The serve didn`t look good at times, but Maria did a good job of keeping her poise and displaying her strong ground game. Obviously the serve needs some work before the next match against Melanie Oudin, but overall it was a pretty good performance from Maria.

Sharapova's serve can let her down still at big matches, she is safe for two rounds then we will see how it really goes.

I always wonder if people like these actually watch her play or are too busy rubbing one out while she plays.

The match was half decent, Christina was overwhelmed by the moment (so much so that she couldnt even break when Maria served 4 DFs in a game). Maria on the other hand took a step back from her last match. Plese improve Maria and reach the finals somehow :sobbing:

Don't play the victim, we both know you're not. And either you like a player, either you don't, you can't play in both sides. That's just weird, you are just strange, and I'm not harassing you, I said the same to another WSfan who was pretending to like Sharapova(I'm not inventing, that's what u said) but was bashing her everytime he can:lol:

Not a much to draw many conclusions from re: Sharapova's current form. Her serving was actually worse than in the 1st round.

As for McHale, unlike say most Euro youngsters, she doesn't have one glaring flaw/quirkyness in her game which immediately stands out. All her strokes seem sound. But her defense is nonexistent, and her game as a whole lacks the raw power to seriously compete at this level. Those 2nd serves (and occasionally 1st serves) that Sharapova killed again and again. :help: But she seems to have a pretty solid foundation to work from, so I can see her improving.
