What a messy match! About 15 breaks of serve. Jankovic blew about 6 set points the 2nd set. So many blown pts... I would like to see this one, too bad I missed it. I really wish Safina would have lost too.... If she can't make it to the semis that would be pitiful.

A decent offensive player will always beat a pusher . Jankovic kept on hoping that Yari will make errors.

Looks like Dinara will not play a single seeded player till the final :help: :tape:

Yari  Very well played. JJ was obviously far from her best and just didn’t seem to care at times, but this is obviously a huge accomplishment and a proud moment in her career :yeah:

I think I'm happier for ChrisCHorse more than Yari  :D

Oh, I love Yaroslava. Remember she pushed Maria to three very hard fought sets at the French Open? In this first set, I was watching Maria play this girl out of shock. It was not really Maria who lost the first set 6-1, it was Yaroslava winning it. She was hitting hard winners out of nowwhere and her drop shots and serve are amazing. Jelena had to face the same fate today. She plays really beautifully, so I like watching her play. And she's beautiful too, when she's not wearing a headband/visor and a sunglass.

I love her game, so beautiful. :hearts:

Sorry for all Jelena fans and Jelena. All these seeds not doing well on Arthur Ashe, hope Maria changes that.

Utterly beautiful. Yari hits so hard, yet she's not risking too much and she seems positive and present-minded whatever happens on the court. She is a role model in terms of on court behavior! And let's face it - she had it coming, regardless of Janko's form, tennis display of that kind is destined for success! (her volleys are very erratic though)

First Elena, now JJ, and this was way worse :sobbing: Yari is nice and played a good match, but at least the player who beat Elena is a future top-10.
JJ you idiot  Great defence to comeback from 5-6* 0-30 (Cirstea anyone?) with some nice rallies, then Shvedova chokes away the TB only for JJ to double-choke the 2 MPs and the match. Horrible, just horrible.

At least unlike most fans I'd be lying if I'll say I had high hopes from either to go really deep.
I had that from Jelena last year - undoubtedly her best slam appearance by any means and even a good final(!), and from Elena on the 3 previous slams (esp. AO), but not this one.

I can't sleep after watching this match. Almost 6am here and I just finished watching my fave, aka a loser, playing soooooooooooooo hard to fight to TB with 2 MP, only she wasted the 1st MP with dumb slice return WIDE OUT, and another point with error. I feel like being a loser as well.

Heartbreaking. I've never felt soooo bad this year seeing jj play. Her loss against venus in HK EXO? fine, venus was awesome; her loss to oudin? Well Oudin is good for whole match. But this. Please. JJ is a good fighter like 2007 AO against Paszek, but she gave us a shit like this.

I need some counselling right now. I feel like a loser just watching my fave losing in the match like this.

When did JJ become so passive?:confused: It's mind boggling the turn so many players have taken this year.

This sucks

But on the bright side, I do like Shvedova and it's nice to her doing well. I've seen her play live twice and she seems like a cool girl. I almost got my picture taken with her the other day, but sadly the person who I was there with who was taking the picture messed it up

Having followed Yari since her junior days it is wonderful to see her winning this match, especially with the way she did.

She was positive all match long, despite missing numerous chances, wasting leads and coming back mentally strong at every time.

Of course Jelena helped her with her own mistakes/passive game but still at that stage it is easy to lost your confidence.

Towards the end it was Yari who was the bossing the points, she was the one going for her shots, she fully deserved this win I would say, well done girl :yeah:

Lovely smile as always :hearts:

I would have cancelled the USO had I been Jankovic. I mean I wanna be at home when my granny dies...

As for Shvedova, she is really cool. Her defense is kinda weak, but I like the way she takes risks and not letting herself get down on errors. She is VERY streaky though, next match could be 6-1 6-1 or 1-6 1-6. :p

So much to say.

I haven't been on this forum in a couple of weeks as I've been in NYC the last couple of weeks. I've been busy with friends, family, seeing NYC and yes watching the tennis and have not had much time for the internet. But obviously I'm thilled to bits with this win. Touched that several posters should be happy for me personally too but best of all is reading through this thread and seeing that Yari has gained so many new fans. She really is a sweet girl with a very special energy and enthusiasm for the game and she deserves all the support she gets. The smile at the end was great to see.

I have always felt results like this were a matter of when, not if, but I'm delighted to see everything is falling into place with Yari although she still has yet more room for improvement.

Commiserations and deep sympathy to Jelena who gave a great effort considering the very sad family circumstances.

This was actually a very fun match to watch, I thought Shvedova really won it rather then Jankovic losing it.

oh the drama in the end. jankovic can be so passive - i think shvedova definitely deserved this win. :)

You never learn, Jankovic - when the big moment comes, you back off.

Sums it up, of what I did get to see of it.

Amazing that this should take place so soon after Cincinnati, where Jankovic was undoubtedly back at playing her best.

But not only did she revert to her passive ways - she allowed Shvedova to play her power game almost unhindered (Shvedova was even using her FH aggressively in some of the patches of the match that I saw), failing even to draw that many errors out of her. Jankovic had bullshitted her way out of similar situations before (Paszek, Arvidsson), but yesterday her luck ran out.

The WTA is visibly and steadily gaining depth, the midranked players are tougher than ever, and it seems more than a few so-called "top players" are yet to adjust and still assume that their lower ranked opponents will eventually choke and/or roll over. It won't always be so.

Jelena  She was in a bad day and atleast she fhougt but she should have take those MPS.
While Shvedova I became interested in her since Roland Garros. Hope this can make her a better player in future and maybe top20. :)

Nice match. Shvedova was impressive..needs to work on her movement into the forehand, but otherwise..it's all there.

JJ:sad:

However, her lacklustre performance is justified by a death in the family. She's right, some things are just so much more important than tennis and I think everyone needs to realise this!

Congrats to Shvedova, she played really well and fully deserved to win:).
