KoOlMaNsEaN Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:19 PM Vania counterpunched the entire match producing great shot after great shot. Upset!! eck Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:19 PM My god, Sam :o What the hell was that :o So tentative :o John. Great play from Vania, she finally justifies all the WCs! yukon145 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:19 PM Vania played so well, almost a perfect match it seemed. very very smart tennis! 2moretogo Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:19 PM Vania, was about as incredible as she could be. Amazing really! Some her points at net were sublime! Patrick345 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:20 PM OMG how did that happen to Sam "Her USO odds should be shorter than those of notorious chokers like Zvonareva and Hantuchova" Stosur? :haha::haha: Marcelo. Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:20 PM Vania :woohoo: :hearts: She was so happy :awww: :awww: Geertvg Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:20 PM  tae04 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:20 PM Yay so proud of Vania! Wow!!!:D Go Vania! mdterp01 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:20 PM So that was what....Serena's potential 4th round opponent? is1531 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:20 PM Stosur plays erratic tennis. She deserved to lose. justine schnyder Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:20 PM 3 threads :spit: Sam :awww: Serenita Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:20 PM Vania :woohoo: :woohoo: delicatecutter Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:20 PM Vania, you are my friggin hero!! :hearts: This was a great match to watch! Amaze variety from Vania! First ever 3r at a Major! Dawson. Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:21 PM Wow, Sam that was frigging awful :tape: Talk about peaking too early :o But well played Vania  Thought she would choke it away whilst serving for it, but all credit for finishing the job :yeah: mckyle. Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:21 PM How odd/random. How many matches has Vania won this year? :o disco_rage Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:21 PM Well done Vania!!!!!!!!! colt13 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:22 PM BOMBSHELL!! Coming into this, i would have said Stosur 6-2, 6-2. But Vania got the early jump in the 1st, served for the set at 5-2, then 5-4, and broke Stosur 3 or 4 times in that set. Stosur played better in the 2nd, but too much of Vania pounding her backhand. toxina90 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:22 PM Can't complain  both similar amount of errors and winners, Sam was just outplayed, shame I will be rooting against Vania if Dani wins... TheBoiledEgg Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:22 PM so both Bammer and Stosur fail to get to play Serena there goes that theory :o Meteor Shower Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:22 PM Awsome match, Incredible stuff from Vania. Really made me a fan, even if it was once in a lifetime performance! She barely made an UE  really positive and smart tennis :yeah: Dodoboy. Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:22 PM Vania you KING! So amazing so so happy for her :bounce: :rolls: Stosur :ras: The match picked up A LOT in the second set, Vania seems happy ! Make the 4th Round!!! WHo's next? Alexj Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:22 PM Vania :worship: She played amazing Sam :help: Boomguy Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:23 PM Vania returned extremely well. I thought it was a great match overall perhaps what let Stosur down was she couldn't handle the pressure and the game play what Vania played Petkorazzi Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:23 PM Performance of the tournament so far. http://i27.tinypic.com/29v40z.jpg GOAT tennis from Vania. :worship: mdterp01 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:23 PM so both Bammer and Stosur fail to get to play Serena there goes that theory :o LOL...mmmm hmmmm Donny Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:23 PM Serena's got clear sailing to the final. Infiniti2001 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:23 PM :awww: so happy for Vania :bounce: Marionated Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:24 PM No suprise. Sam was horrendous in the first round too. Still :help: tobe Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:24 PM great match Vania :) First time I saw her play....enjoyable to watch!! Marion and Sam = 2 of the best players this US Hardcourt season are out in Rd 2...wow! mdterp01 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:24 PM Ok can we merge the two threads please mods? Benshka Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:24 PM Haha! GO VANIA :inlove:. Petkorazzi Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:25 PM Always a joy to watch such a high quality match with intensity given by the quality of play, not fistpumping or grunting. :) Credit to both girls out there. simonsaystennis Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:25 PM Yeah Vania!!!! :D :woohoo: Best tennis BY FAR I've seen from her! She deserved this win. Sooooo good at the net!!! Alexj Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:25 PM Vania you KING! So amazing so so happy for her :bounce: :rolls: Stosur :ras: The match picked up A LOT in the second set, Vania seems happy ! Make the 4th Round!!! WHo's next? Hantuchova/Bacsinszky kyk710 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:25 PM Vania executed her game plan beautifully against Stosur. She pounded Sam's backhand, and moved in to the net whenever possible. Vania was so solid at net today. Well done. juki Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:25 PM Vania! :worship: Elisse Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:26 PM Great win for Vania!! :yeah: btw - Sam was my pick to get to the semi's at least :tape: :o Daniel K Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:27 PM Crap Stosur but well done Vania. She's such a nice girl and deserves a good tournament. jefrilibra Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:28 PM OMG! I was cheering for Vania like nobody's business. First Bartoli and now Stosur!!! The curse of the WS. Kworb Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:28 PM Vania's volleys :inlove: Craig. Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:28 PM :weirdo: TS Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:29 PM Oh for fuck's sake Samantha...:o Anyhoo. Moving on. Happy for Vania, I really like her :) jbeacinu Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:30 PM I love my vania :) Bijoux0021 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:30 PM Vania played great and smart, quite the opposite for Sam:lol: Vania:banana: Yes, she did play smart. The smartest part of Vania's game plan was that she hit most of her shots to Sam's weakest wing, which is the backhand. Great job, Vania. :worship: Knizzle Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:30 PM Wow that's a pretty big upset considering. hankqq Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:31 PM wow big surprise, considering Stosur has been at her best for the last few months, while King has been crap all year long  Dodoboy. Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:31 PM OMG! I was cheering for Vania like nobody's business. First Bartoli and now Stosur!!! The curse of the WS. Next up, Demented :armed: austennis Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:32 PM Sooo sad sammmyy :( hope u havent been putting too much pressure on urself :( please focus on ur doubles and goodluck Lucemferre Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:34 PM so both Bammer and Stosur fail to get to play Serena there goes that theory :o Too bad. I was hoping to see Serena beat them. AkademiQ Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:34 PM Thank goodness  Congrats Vania. DOUBLEFIST Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:37 PM That was BEAUTIFUL!! :bounce: Well done Vania!! Masterful execution of a smart All-court Forcing Game!! It just goes to show you that you don't have to be a huge power merchant to play an aggressive, forward-leaning game. I'd love to see more girls, "Big Babe" and Small, get their butts off the baseline and close out at net! Hugh. Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:41 PM Congrats Vania! :worship: But where is the huge serving, miss absolutely nothing on the forehand Sam? dylan24 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:43 PM there is a reason stosur has never won a singles title.. she sucks.. stick to doubles stosur fantic Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:44 PM W/o the sunglass Sam was LOVELY, but I guess she needs it after all...:( Please go back to being Trinity(Matrix gal), if it works for you. :) hdfb Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:46 PM I thought this was a possibility because Sam just has shocking losses and really is so inconsistent no matter how much the Australian media try to hype her up because of her ranking boost. Well done to Vania, congratulations for making it this far, hope you make it to play Serena assuming she gets past her 2nd and 3rd round in all fairness to her 2nd and 3rd round opponent because TF members swoop down on comments like these. F-R-E-A-K Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:48 PM Congrats Vania :) Sam   BuTtErFrEnA Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:49 PM  too bad i was hoping for the schooling from serena...nice to see vania finally winning...hope she can continue fufuqifuqishahah Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:53 PM Vania kind of looks sexier now... her face / facial demeanor reminds me of like Jennifer Capriati AstuteLearner8 Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:54 PM Major breakthrough for King! Emina. Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:55 PM  barboza Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:57 PM Vania was smart in this match. She kept the balls deep and picked on stosur's backhand. Whenever Sam threw on backhand slices, vania would come in and Sam would be in trouble. starin Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:58 PM  probably one of the biggest wins of Vania's career especially w/ how Stosur has been playing this year. :worship: Vania!! HybridTheory Sep 2nd, 2009, 10:58 PM there is a reason stosur has never won a singles title.. she sucks.. stick to doubles stosur If you had the guts to tell her this in her face she could easily beat the crap out of you if she wasn't so nice. HybridTheory Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:02 PM Good match and very smart play by King. She deserves credit. Sam wasn't obviously feeling comfortable out there today and this must be a very disappointing loss for her. I hope she's not too upset and will have a good doubles tournament. Cat's Pajamas Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:02 PM Vania  Nicely done! Good luck in the third round! hammerhead Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:04 PM Good on ya, Vania!!! :woohoo: fufuqifuqishahah Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:04 PM Stosur didnt play totally horrible, but she was far from her best. Vania constructed points well... too bad she hasnt been able to do it consistently enough in singles recently but good timing to get some good juice back :] I hope Vania makes 4r -- would be a juicy Vania - Serena night match  iPatty Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:10 PM Vania :woohoo: Always nice to see a player like this reach a R3 of a major. andrewC Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:11 PM great for her to get a big result like this. well done Vania  joćo. Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:16 PM :o She was playing rly good! hablo Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:19 PM Nice. @danieln1 Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:22 PM Major upset here so far... Ivanovic can“t be even considered a upset Great win for the best singer on the tour! :haha: LeonHart Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:27 PM Vania played smart smart tennis. She usually does but doesn't execute. Today she was perfect. Golovinjured. Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:29 PM Sam :weirdo: It's like she played herself out of form over the summer. Peaked to early, and then her matches last week and her two matches here were :help: SARA-GOAT Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:31 PM Vania :hearts: The Dawntreader Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:34 PM Sam :weirdo: It's like she played herself out of form over the summer. Peaked to early, and then her matches last week and her two matches here were :help: My thoughts exactly. Though to be fair, players of Stosur's ilk are often like this. They play every tournament imaginable before a Slam, and haven't got the best of themselves left for the big event. From what i saw, Vania played a really solid match. No firepower on her shots, but plenty of depth and decent placement. Quite the opposite of Stosur's play. Slutiana Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:35 PM  US Open 2009 Champion Sam Stosur!!!11 Lucky framed shots aren't landing in anymore. :( Illusionist Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:35 PM Wow, not a shock, but a surprise... tennisforadults Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:36 PM there is a reason stosur has never won a singles title.. she sucks.. stick to doubles stosur troll  Disappointing end for a great hardcourt season - good luck for the Asian circuit and see you at AO 2010! tennisforadults Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:38 PM  US Open 2009 Champion Sam Stosur!!!11 Lucky framed shots aren't landing in anymore. :( You should be lucky those framed forehand shots haven't landed on any important parts of yours. ;) asiandude Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:50 PM good on ya Vania. Sorry Sam, I never liked you. You were overconfident in your interviews if you progress to next rounds or defeat higher ranked players. Denise4925 Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:50 PM :bigclap: WTG Vania. :D RenaSlam. Sep 2nd, 2009, 11:58 PM Congrats, Vania. KournikovaFan91 Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:08 AM Sam :help: Well done Vania. HenryMag. Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:12 AM King  What a clever match...serve and volley on MP was  kbw72688 Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:15 AM Six American women (assuming Serena is victorious tonight) make it to day 4. That is probably the first time in a long time that that has happened. young_gunner913 Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:21 AM VANIA :speakles: I was think you could possibly pull this out in three but damn gurl. Welcome back to the tour  Imperfect Angel Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:26 AM Vania :yeah: Sam, knew you're gonna burn yourself out.:wavey: Archer16 Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:27 AM How is she not the the top 100? And isn't Stosur's serve supposed to be one of the top 5 on tour? Getting broken in 6 out of 11 service games doesn't sit well with that notion. Wtrain Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:51 AM Yay Vania! dylan24 Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:52 AM stosur should have lost to sugiyama mapaliey Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:54 AM LoL......and thread about she'll win US open....LoL AnomyBC Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:58 AM WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?!?!!? (And she can sing too!:worship:) Yorker Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:59 AM king was all over stosurs serve. she returned so early and her net play was great too. stosur to me is a very inconsistent player, she goes for everything, idk i'm not a fan of her game, so many shanks. dylan24 Sep 3rd, 2009, 01:05 AM king>stosur>serena Jem Sep 3rd, 2009, 01:58 AM Good for Vania. Nice to see her doing well with the wildcard! brayster87 Sep 3rd, 2009, 01:59 AM Stosur is a shit player anyway, not surprised at all! I can't believe that Nicole Pratt (another useless player) said on FoxSports commentary that Stosur is and I quote "a big gun"......what a rubbish statement. Anyone else agree? tobi Sep 3rd, 2009, 02:59 AM It was an excellent, positive play from Vania :hearts: Nice to see win this with the way she did,she has a chance against Hantuchova if she can keep this positive approach. cellophane Sep 3rd, 2009, 03:19 AM Good god. :o mdterp01 Sep 3rd, 2009, 03:32 AM king>stosur>serena :weirdo: Huntress55 Sep 3rd, 2009, 03:52 AM Weird, I slept through my alarm and I had a dream she lost, and I woke up and she had lost  Its a pity her shite form hit her now at the US Open, she was playing so well before but probably a little too much too. I saw it on the news and she wasnt playing with her glasses, I know it was like 530pm, but its weird to see her without them  Hopefully she can move on from this loss pretty quickly, address what she needs to work on and continue towards improving her ranking even more. Mikey. Sep 3rd, 2009, 04:21 AM Oh noes :tears: PLP Sep 3rd, 2009, 05:04 AM What a fantastic result for Vania!! :hearts: She has talent, so it is nice that her game has come together. Sorry Sam! Better luck next year. Harvs Sep 3rd, 2009, 05:34 AM shit sam.. shit. things just wernt working well, like the first round... GRR! olivero Sep 3rd, 2009, 06:30 AM Oh no! what an awful day for my faves :( Sammy  Langers Sep 3rd, 2009, 06:54 AM Stosur. :spit: Embarrassing! :o dokic_henin Sep 3rd, 2009, 07:00 AM Vania actually played really well. I watched this entire match, and she won so many points at the net. She deserves credit for playing a great match, but Sam was definitely not at her best today. Beat Sep 3rd, 2009, 07:05 AM sam had a great year so far - why does she have to fuck it up now?? but kudos to vania. despite her weak serve, she was the more aggressive player and totally deserved this win IMO. Xepher Sep 3rd, 2009, 07:07 AM Just finished watching 1st set and I went to bed (it's 5:30am already :o) I started to hate stosur because of her one-dimensional game, only serve, serve, serve, she made silly UE in 1st sed, leading 30-0 and broken in 11th game...That's why she still didn't win a title despite being ranked top 15 Good job King, I thought she might choke after losing serve twice from 5-2 to 5-5...but she made it :) Many winners from Vania are just awesome...she should not be ranked outside 100, she played much better than dulgheru or even Julie COin :o Ballbasher Sep 3rd, 2009, 07:39 AM Vania OMG :inlove: :hearts: :yeah: Best win since ages! :D Kim's_fan_4ever Sep 3rd, 2009, 07:42 AM Stosur hardly won the 1R, was bad in Toronto and New Haven. She simply played too much and there she goes out in the 2R to King :help: Oh well, hope she learns from that. Serena's cupcake draw!!111!11!!!! darkangel23 Sep 3rd, 2009, 07:50 AM Sammy :( Mike_from_Russia Sep 3rd, 2009, 07:53 AM  Unexpected result here. Dodoboy. Serena's cupcake draw!!111!11!!!! As a Safina fan, you shouldn't even be ALLOWED to say that, disgusting. Anna Orlik Sep 3rd, 2009, 10:15 AM Vania Is Back. :woohoo: jonny84 Sep 3rd, 2009, 10:17 AM Bit of a shocker this one, particuarly as Sam had been having good successes recently. She had a good chance to pick up some more points here too to consolidate her new ranking. LUXXXAS Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:29 PM too many tournaments before USO and we have the result :tape: Sam :banghead: volta Sep 3rd, 2009, 12:40 PM Vania  Lunaris Sep 3rd, 2009, 01:04 PM Weird, I slept through my alarm and I had a dream she lost, and I woke up and she had lost   Joe. Dodoboy. Sep 3rd, 2009, 05:40 PM atleast dinara puts everything into every tournament;) unlike serena....tanker:o What does this have to do with anything? Just Do It Sep 3rd, 2009, 06:03 PM :yeah: Corswandt Sep 4th, 2009, 11:00 AM First bump of the day. The joys of watching taped tennis. Textbook demolition of a top player with big strengths and big weaknesses, all the more remarkable as it was accomplished by a player who wouldn't seem to have the tools required to do so. Actually, if you saw only a couple of points of this match, you'd be left with the impression that King was merely puffballing away while Stosur self-destructed. But King won not by merely patting the ball back to the other side of the net, but rather through I) flawless shot selection and point construction II) versatility and willingness to move forward and finish points off at the net Stosur being erratic from the baseline is to be expected, considering her shaky technique and bad timing. King merely maximised the potential of her own (limited) game to take advantage of Stosur's shortcomings - her unreliable BH in particular. An eye opener. martin white Sep 4th, 2009, 12:46 PM Sam,pretty poor:tape::help:Vania did what Ai shouldv'e done in the 1strd.Dissapointing from Sam, i think she is feeling the weight of expectations too, especially in the majors.I think she over did it playing too many warm up events for USO.taking nothing away from Vania good match, she needs the points hdfb Sep 4th, 2009, 01:11 PM I read an article today saying Vania moved in on her second serve out of fear of not being able to reach it if she let the kick bounce too high. And she was asked what her thoughts were right before she stepped out on court and she said "To lose." :help: Well done again Vania. <3 | |
