Coming into this, i would have said Stosur 6-2, 6-2. But Vania got the early jump in the 1st, served for the set at 5-2, then 5-4, and broke Stosur 3 or 4 times in that set. Stosur played better in the 2nd, but too much of Vania pounding her backhand.

Can't complain :shrug: both similar amount of errors and winners, Sam was just outplayed, shame I will be rooting against Vania if Dani wins...

I thought this was a possibility because Sam just has shocking losses and really is so inconsistent no matter how much the Australian media try to hype her up because of her ranking boost.

Stosur didnt play totally horrible, but she was far from her best. Vania constructed points well... too bad she hasnt been able to do it consistently enough in singles recently but good timing to get some good juice back :]

My thoughts exactly. Though to be fair, players of Stosur's ilk are often like this. They play every tournament imaginable before a Slam, and haven't got the best of themselves left for the big event.

From what i saw, Vania played a really solid match. No firepower on her shots, but plenty of depth and decent placement. Quite the opposite of Stosur's play.

king was all over stosurs serve. she returned so early and her net play was great too. stosur to me is a very inconsistent player, she goes for everything, idk i'm not a fan of her game, so many shanks.

I saw it on the news and she wasnt playing with her glasses, I know it was like 530pm, but its weird to see her without them :lol:

I started to hate stosur because of her one-dimensional game, only serve, serve, serve, she made silly UE in 1st sed, leading 30-0 and broken in 11th game...That's why she still didn't win a title despite being ranked top 15

First bump of the day. The joys of watching taped tennis.

Textbook demolition of a top player with big strengths and big weaknesses, all the more remarkable as it was accomplished by a player who wouldn't seem to have the tools required to do so. Actually, if you saw only a couple of points of this match, you'd be left with the impression that King was merely puffballing away while Stosur self-destructed.

But King won not by merely patting the ball back to the other side of the net, but rather through

I) flawless shot selection and point construction

II) versatility and willingness to move forward and finish points off at the net

Stosur being erratic from the baseline is to be expected, considering her shaky technique and bad timing. King merely maximised the potential of her own (limited) game to take advantage of Stosur's shortcomings - her unreliable BH in particular.

An eye opener.
