Some great rallies & variety.

Slow start from Vera but she really picked it up as the match went on. She's still not playing with the form she had pre-injury but she's getting there & has got back some of the muscle she lost! :bounce: Her movement is still not great though.

Good luck against Elena. :yeah:

 Anna, looks to be finally coming out of her slump. :)
Although she didn't finish nearly as well as she started.

W/UE Ratio:
Bepa: 25-21
Anna: 13-29

Zvonereva just took care of business in the last 2 sets. Chakvetadze was forced to play too much defense in the last 2 sets. Zvonereva is a executor on the court. :)

cant say im not dissapointed after the 1st set, but vera played well and anna went into mental meltdown again.

still with chakvetadzes year i'll take a 2nd round and the 100 points. shes in the doubles so i hope she can go out there and just enjoy playing the doubles, she looks like the weight of the world straddles those nimble shoulders.

Seriously, if you have nothing productive to say, don't share. Just don't. It doesn't make you funny or interesting, just makes you a mean, spiteful person.

Pretty good match, despite the mental collapse from Anna after the early break in the 2nd... Anna at least showing the game is all still there, just what's between the ears that is causing all the problems. In fact a glance to Zvonareva's mental transformation might really help Anna... learning to play the point and not just freak out as soon as things stop going her way. Congrats to Vera, she really stepped up and took control as Anna faded and didn't give her much of a chance to get back into the match.

Please keep up the regrouping Anna... work with a sports psychologist please!

Anna's losses at US Open in the last 3 years:

2007 6-3 1-6 1-6

so sad to see her go so early. But when she is on its the most beautiful tennis you get today, when she is off...it ends like the last two sets. Next time Anna.

Here's my two cents.

Anna's serve looked better than ever. Not tons of aces, but very few double faults. She clearly has a different serve motion - much more smooth and free-flowing. It's hard to tell on TV whether or not ladies' second serves have spin on them, but she seems to have added some. The groundstrokes are definitely getting back to where she was pre-2008. I've been thinking about it a little and do yo uguys remember how she was supposed to work with Robert Lansdorp in late '07? I think he actually hurt her groundstrokes for the '08 and '09 season, up until now. Good to see they're back.

I was a little disappointed with the footwork - she didn't move great to certain balls, but maybe that's a confidence issue. Now it's all about belief and committing to becoming stronger mentally. She's almost there, she just needs a bit more time. Encouraging signs here despite the 2nd and 3rd set scores.

Had to go at 6-3 1-3 Deuce...was seriously hoping she could work her way back into the second set. Such a shame but the result is nothing to scoff at. Vera was playing really well actually. Please just find optimism in this result, Anna. :awww:

:worship::worship: Vera!! I'm so glad the more complete player won. Vera's game is so beautiful to watch. hopefully this means she's starting to find her form again but then again losing a set to Chakvetadze implies she still has a bit of a ways to go.

I've not seen Anna on TV for a while. First set is evidence that her game is still there. She served very well, even came into net and hit a drive volley. Seemed composed and playing within herself.

Second set, Vera started to play better and Anna just got really negative and the errors began. Her problem is entirely in the mind. She could take steps to sort it out. I hope she goes and watches a tape of this match with her coach. The change in her demeanour from first set to second was quite apparent.

I like Vera a lot though so obviously happy for her. I just think Anna needed this win more.

That was not such a bad match from Chakvedatze. Probably the best Zvonareva played since her ankle twist in the spring.

Anyway it was sad loss for Anna but I see some hope. Im just very pleased she was able to take a set. Id rather those two last sets be a blowout than really close.

Hmm... maybe that "doesn't bother me" (nice of you to decide for me) because I'm generally not reading WS threads unless they particularly interest me. For instance, you won't see me randomly going into a Serena or Venus result thread after they lose just to gloat about it. If people, including Chakvetadze fans are doing this, then I disagree with them as much as I do you for posting things that don't have any purpose at all other than to be shitty and annoy people. Seriously... you don't have justification to be an ass just because some other people do the same. Rise above it, anyone?

serenus_2k8 lives in a delusion of double standards. No suprises there:)

Anna should be given credit for competing well. Unlike her slumping peers who seem to lack any sort of motivation or drive, Chakvetdaze is at least willing to play herself into form at any cost. Of course, it won't always be the case, but she's trying nonetheless.

Vera is living dangerously on that ankle i fear. Hope there's a period soon where her body can be injury-free. Her best tennis doesn't seem that far away.

Damn straight. There's no doubt in my mind she would have had a good chance against Serena even if Serena hadn't been injured or whatever happened that day. Watch the 3rd set of Anna versus Venus in the '07 Cali tournament (I believe it was the Acura Classic in its final year?) and you'll know what I mean.

And how clever, an eye-roll!
