I see that she is currently 9th in the race. So all she has to do is basically do better in the US open than Zvonareva?

Easy. Win the slam.

Well, theres still a few weeks left. To say the #8 place comes down to the result of JJ and Bepa here is premature.

There's still a lot of season to go....
I don't think she'd qualify immediately unless she wins the US Open.

well obviously win the slam she would make it, but i mean to have just enough points to make it?

Win a Slam will help, but i don't think the Race List will be decided before after China Open.

She has a lot to defend. USO Final, W China Open, W Porsche Grand Prix, and one more title that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Yeah, i counted a few weeks ago, from the start of the US Open to the end of the year (including final points here) she has over 4000 points to defend. I think...

Easy. Win the slam.

Too bad winning a slam isnt as easy, especially for someone like Jankovic who is vulnerable to almost any offensive player who is in form.

As much as I know it`s not important what she is defending from last year. Only this year`s points count for YEC.

Just do better than Zvonareva. Which I dont think will be hard, considering the recent form of both.

Maybe she can play like 30 more tournaments, including ITFs? If need be, satellites too.

All in TOP 20 still playing in US Open can still get IN, winning US Open, PPO Japan and China Open. But players from TOP 12-20 who has lost this week will likely not get In, even they can win 1800+ points in upcoming tournaments.

Arrange a "car accident" for Zvonareva....and Azarenka for insurance.

1-7 seem pretty solid in there.

4-7 are all pretty close to each other and any one of them could technically still drop out, but it would require both Jankovic and Zvonareva (or maybe even Flavia (Stosur, Bartoli, Radwanska, Ivanovic are already out in USO)) to start putting out some amazing results in the next few weeks for both to over take anyone 4-7.

Pelase keep in mind that two people (Dinara and Serena) have already qualified. It is possible that Jankovic will take over the 8th sppot because Vera has never been past the 4th round of the USO and all Jankovic has to do is go one round more than Vera. With a solid USO, Dementieva and Sveta will qualify before the China Open. If Venus gets to the SF, she is as good as qualified, as is Azarenka if she gets to the SF. Wozinacki should qualify also by the China Open, but I don't think she will get past the QF of the USO.

I am more worried that Jelena wont defend all those points, the US Open final, and wins in Stuttgart, Beijing and Moscow from last year.
I suppose that if she doesnt qualify she can play Bali with her Marbellla win.

but her defending points has nothing to do with if she qualifies for the YEC
