Caught the last few moments of it.

Good play from Wozniak, however Mauresmo... not so much. She kept hitting shots right at Wozniak whilst Wozniak was at the net at the end.

Good win for Wozniak.

As for Mauresmo, she needs to be honest with herself as to her motivation: does she really want to continue playing? I'm not so sure.

I'd change the title to A Mauresmo def A Mauresmo because she did NOTHING absolutely nothing to change anything in this match. All she did was stay at the back and hit poor shots that barely made it past the service line and hit double faults at really bad moments. It was like she couldn't be bothered and it was a truely dreadful performance and she fully deserves to go home.

eww. shame for both players. amelie for being horrible and for wozniak for being a pusher!
the most ugliest match amelie has ever played dunno if wozniak feels proud of herself with this win. coz she has nothing to be proud of! just hit the baalls back at amelie and amelie just moonballs it or smacks it into the net!

It's depressing to watch Amelie play nowadays. Not even because she plays so badly, but because she just doesn't seem to care.

Oh well, it wasn't a great performance from her opponent today, but I'm happy to see Aleks through to the 3rd round regardless. :) Good luck against Pennetta! Take her out. :D

I don't think people are being fair to Wozniak the girl is a good player. Wozniak has defeated Kuznetsova and Petrova this year. Last year she beat Bartoli and Serena Williams. Why can't people give Wozniak credit she played solid and won.

Retirement soon for Amelie, me thinks. 30 is not old if you're still fighting a good fight and coming close.

But since losing to Safina at Wimbledon, and now this, I think Amelie's really on her way out.

Sep 2nd, 2009, 05:21 PM
Mauresmo was absolutely woeful from 4-4 onwards. On US hardcourts, her length is so poor and any half-competent baseliner can walk all over her.

I truly believe Mauresmo could call it a day soon. Unless she's content in being some journeywoman in her later years, what's the point? She looks SO far away from her 2006 form.

Wozniak played aggressive, because Mauresmo allowed her to. Good win for her nonetheless.

Results all over the place on the other side of the pond for my fav *sigh*

First round, then SF beating Kuznetsova on the way, then 2nd round... Would have been nicer if she had saved the SF performance for USO though :P

I've seen that Amélie has still some amazing game in her, she's just wildly inconsistent. Today was not one of the flashes of amazing play however...

I love Amelie-always have-but she clearly isn't into tennis anymore-fair enough-but retire. I read an article on the board the other day and she said it was hard to fire up for matches. This must of been one of them!

terrible loss for Amelie :o  :tape: It's no fun watching her lose so easily to mediocre players like Wozniak :help: Mauresmo kept hitting to Wozniak's backhand :weirdo: I don't know why she didn't try going to the forehand more and at least make her run! :o In her press conference she left open the possibility for retirement at the end of the season, and bad losses like these might push her to hang up her racket:sad:

Ditto. Mauresmo seemed exhausted, physically and mentally spent from the very beginning of the match. She must ponder if she still has the resilience and the willpower required to play at this level.

That being said, horrible match. From both.
