I'm starting to become a Jankovic fan who 18 months ago was my most disliked player.

I'm in exactly the same position. :inlove:

Jelena's replacing Azarenka in my sig.

I probably only disliked her in the first place because of her rivalry with Ana.

I'm not sure how far that will go though

I've done a 360 on Jelena! I used to love her because of her smile and laughter on court (as well as her talent), but then she got a bit bitchy and there was the incident with her coach and Venus and the stopwatch...ahem...but since Wimbledon, I really started liking her again.

Done a 180 on Justine since she retired (I guess she isn't around to beat up my faves anymore!!)

And my opinion of Serena is spinning around and around all the live long day!!!

Elena Dementieva.

I had real problems with her implying match fixing in the Williams camp, but I find her game (not to mention her legs) irresistible. I love the flat hard groundies (really, anyone who hits like that), the athleticism, the return game and recently have been so impressed with her determination to improve her serve. I love how she battle Serena at Wimby (glad she lost though).

So, I now find myself in the awkward position of being her fan. Come her third round (provided expectations determines form), I don't know who I'm going to pull for.

I used to hate Capriati from 2001-2003 USO, but then I liked her until 2004 USO.
I also didn't like Davenport in 2004 because she beat Venus too many times for my liking, but I liked her again in 2005:p

Can't think of any recent ones.

I used to HATE Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova. I'm pretty neutral on both.

I was a big fan of Serena Williams before 2002. That definitely changed...then became a big fan again after her comeback.. now I don't really care one way or the other.

I use to hate Serena/Venus, due to their rivalry with Hingis, now I don't mind watching them. I also didn't care much for Clijsters but I'm happy she came back and avidly cheering for her.

Used to hate Serena with a passion. Now I like her, more or less, but I'm still not a fan.

Same with Maria, but we'll see how that goes after the third round. :o Probably won't make a difference, I've been fonder of Maria since mid '07.

Nope. Once I set my mind to something there is very little a player can do to change it. So once I have you as a player I loathe (i.e. Sharapova, Jankovic, Henin :wavey:) there's not much you can do to change it). I will admit that the fire isn't as deep with those three, but I'll never be a fan of any of em. I will give them props for playing a good match, but thats about it.

Also used to dislike Venus but now I actually support her - when she is playing against Serena

Never liked Serena, but I got used to her big mouth. Her 'pearls of wisdom' are often genuinely funny, although rarely diplomatic.

When Daniela beat Hingis in the Indian Wells final back in the day, i was pissed, and decided not to like her.
Then i saw her play on Eurosport.. and then again..and again... and i could not dislike her anymore.
I tried, but i couldn't, she's too lovely.

I couldn't stand Venus and Serena. I still can't Serena because of her arrogance and how she treats her opponents after they beat her. But Venus has really grown on me in the last 6 or so months. it seems she's matured a lot and I like what I'm seeing. I'm not a fan yet but I'm surly getting there and I don't mind watching Venus's matches and cheer for her to win when she plays her sister. :)

I used to like Azarenka a bit, don't like her anymore.

I used to hate A. Radwanska for USO 07 but I really appreciate her game and bitchiness now.

I disliked a lot of the players who rose in '07 cause I thought they were weak and over-ranked (Chakvetadze, Peer etc) I was happy when they dropped in the ranks but now I can see that they are better than whats out there now and I support them against new crap like Wozniacki.

Dementieva - Couldn't stand her. my most disliked player for the stunt she pulled in 2001 and last year. but someohow in the last couple of months I have gradually become a supporter. not a fan per se but I really want to see her do well.

Ana I - not a fan but kind of feeling bad for her. wouuld love for her to get it together. watched some of her old matches the other day and really fell in love with that forehand. still would prefer not to hear her talk though.

Mauresmo - went from disliking her to totally indifferent. couldn't care less about her one way or the other.

Hingis - I go back and forth.

I was once a massive Dinara hater :o Now I have her as my fucking avatar

I think I switch a lot with Serena. Back in '07 I was screaming from my couch for her to win the AO and then :hearts: It only took me a year to switch back to pleasantly disliking her but respecting her.
I've always liked Venus, never been a hardcore fan though.

Sep 2nd, 2009, 08:21 AM
Several actually.

Henin - Couldn't stand her after AO 06 but she grew on me after beating Jankovic in USO and was cheering for her in the final. Was one of my faves in 07.

Vaidisova - Used to think she was too bitchy but since the slump i miss her from the top 10 and hope she gets back there.

Pierce - Never despised her but she really beame one of my faves during the Fed Cup final in 05.

Hey, what a cute thread! :yeah: OP

''Despise'' is a bit too strong a word, but, for example, I didn't really like Domi Cibulkova when she first appeared, but with time I realised she's actually a very sweet girl whose game I also find very enjoyable at times.
I didn't like Justine for a very long time, but also with time I began to forget about her nasty coach and started enjoying her :hearts: tennis and now I miss her.
There must be some more examples but I can't think of them atm.

I liked TOB, then I got mightily sick of her (thus the designation TOB) and now I like her again. So I guess that's more of a 360.

I originally liked JJ, but now she gets on my nerves, so I guess that's the opposite of the question.

I used to hate Ana, but now that's kind of like kicking a sick puppy. I wouldn't go so far as to say I like her, more like I don't really care. (And by hate I mean strictly in tennis terms. It's not like I want bad things to happen to her, I just enjoy it more if one of my faves beats her).

I'm actually starting to enjoy this whole Lena/Rena thing and hope it continues for awhile.

And, of course, in the biggest most emotional decision of my life as a tennis fan, I decided to stick with Elena even after she lost the bangs.

I despised Ivanovic when she was number 1, and I hate her even more now that she sucks. I really hope she continues to implode.

i don't really "hate" any players... the biggest turnaround was probably ivanovic. i remember how i saw her live at the qualifying for the zurich open in 2004 - i had never even heard of her - and she was so young and so brilliant, totally dismantling kostanic. she really left me in awe.

fast forward some years and there was a player called ivanovic i hardly recognized - and no, i'm not specifically talking about the crappy play - squeaky shoes, ajde-overlad, fistpumping, you know the deal. can't watch her anymore.

More like you used to like Venus... But she beat Serena. :( When will you let it go? Serena hit the ball out, so she deserved to lose the point however long it took Venus to challenge, the point didn't belong to Serena, ever, get over it.

Aravanecaravan
Sep 2nd, 2009, 02:54 PM
I wouldn't say "despised" but the first time I saw Aravane, I wanted Maria to kill her. On the court, I mean. It was in the French Open in 2005. Now, the roles, while not quite reversed (I still like Maria too), are definitely tilted in Aravane's favor. Max has 'Lena's bangs', and my fixation is 'Persians with brunette hair'....

I never really thought much of Bartoli until so many here started picking on her, then I watched her play and thought she was interesting enough to keep watching. I would definitely consider myself a fan of hers now.

On the flip side, I used to rank Vaidisova as a close no. 2, but her complete and total disregard for her current state of crappiness has left me unsympathetic.

:worship:, she would have been perfectly happy with Serena winning that game unfairly with that ball being in, but she is just ignorant of the rules of challenges. It is at the discretion of the umpire how long to take and also after watching it again I got the feeling Venus thought it called out because once Kadir or whatever his name is said Game Serena Williams, Venus immediately challenged. But they didn't show her actions, so I am not sure. But she is worse than Henin now? Ok, keep being stupid:o You are only one of 2 Serena fans that took this and hated Venus for it, that says a lot about you:o

Probably Vaidisova & V. Williams.
I used to dislike Nicole a lot, but her slump just makes me feel extremely sorry for her and seeing talent like that wasted with many overranked players nowadays.
Venus was the sister I disliked much more now I like her more, her class won me over & I love watching her play by now.

Now that Henin is gone and Kim is back, she is my actual favourite !

Back in 2005-2006, Maria was my second favourite player  I loved watching her playing, I enjoyed the Aussie Open semifinal, her great summer hardcourts season, I had even an avy of her holding San Diego's trophy on MSN...but since Masters 2006, not anymore :tape: don't know why.

I'm not sure if I hate williams sisters, or their zealous fans' behaviour. I like their style of playing tennis, but somehow they cannot be my faves.
